Blimey!
Now they've ditched the baggage from previous series and Thandie Newton has joined the cast, it really has shifted up a gear.
Sunday's episode was fantastic.

Re: Line of Duty
I've now watched the entire third series in the last two days - thought it was brilliant. Can now get on with watching series 4.

Re: Line of Duty
We were a series behind when we started watching it. They have no issues in killing off leading actors. I'm not even a crime drama fan but this is, no holds barred; the best on TV.
I have to admit, having caught up on the series the other night, it left me a little confused, but that's Line of Duty for you. It is so well written.
Some people have commented on it being far fetched etc, but nothing I've seen seems so. Just intricately woven.
I don't do hanging on the edge of the seat, as there is rarely a storyline worthy. But, along with 'The Missing' this genuinely has me wanting to know what happens next.

He may be referring to series 3 containing storylines carried on from previous series.
I hadn't watched it before this series (although I have now watched series 3 on iplayer) and it holds up as a stand alone rather than an ongoing serial.

Re: Line of Duty
Regarding this series, I did think it was a bit odd that local lad Lee Ingleby was only cast in what seemed to be a minor supporting role as he is quite often the lead these days.
That was until the final few scenes of last week's episode.

Re: Line of Duty
Not so much of a cliffhanger to end tonights episode.
Only 2 episodes left to see how it pans out so lots to happen in a short time.Hope it doesn't finish in the style of a Dan Brown film, where a great plot develops and it all unravels in the last 5 minutes.

I think that's just how the storyline has progressed not a slight on his acting abilities he can only feature as the role dictates & how things are panning out he does seem to getting more involved recently.TheFamilyCat wrote:Regarding this series, I did think it was a bit odd that local lad Lee Ingleby was only cast in what seemed to be a minor supporting role as he is quite often the lead these days.

I didn't even realise it was Lee Ingleby until you mentioned it. Good spot. Line of Duty is no respecter of reputation though. Daniel Mays was killed off very early, Jason Watkins, Keeley Hawes.TheFamilyCat wrote:Regarding this series, I did think it was a bit odd that local lad Lee Ingleby was only cast in what seemed to be a minor supporting role as he is quite often the lead these days.

I thought Thandie Newton was a goner after one episode...
It's very rare a TV show of any kind has me actually thinking 'I can't wait for the next episode' but this one does. Brilliantly written.

I might have missed that part but have any of the investigating officers actually asked her during interview "What have you done to your arm"? Last night when being questioned the arm was so painful everything had to be picked up single handed.

Later down the line I think all that will emerge especially as a swab has been taken I agree though you would have thought that would have picked up on earlier I guess the show has to spanned out with degrees of uncertainty I guess that's the viewer attraction.kentonclaret wrote:I might have missed that part but have any of the investigating officers actually asked her during interview "What have you done to your arm"? Re: Line of Duty
What I meant was that for the the first 2.5 episodes he just seemed to be the copper's husband, with a few mundane lines asking about the kids etc. It's now clear that the character is central to the story.

I was lucky enough to meet Jason Watkins a couple of years ago. What a great fella he was, very down to earth and a fine actor he is too. I was disappointed to see him bumped off so early, but then again that's Line Of Duty for youThinLizzy wrote:I didn't even realise it was Lee Ingleby until you mentioned it. Good spot. No. Sorry. Absolutely for each week's episode but if you want to avoid spoilers for seasons from previous years then you shouldn't be opening up a thread about the programme.

Sorry, but as a fan of the series up to now, I can't help thinking that this is an over-elaborate "who dunnit". Inferior in every respect to the previous 3.

Re: Line of Duty
I'd agree with boatshed bill..it's a good watch but not a patch on the previous series which were more satisfying . In this series there is a clearly defined "villain" bent copper innThandie Newton's character, and it essentially comes down to "who is balaclava man and why is she protecting him ?". In previous series there was much more ambiguity around whether characters were crooked or not. The character of the ACC this time has just become ridiculous too...he is so patently a fairly stupid careerist that it doesn't seem credible the he would have attained such a high rank.

Re: Line of Duty
I just watched episode 4. ACC Hilton is balaclava man, he was being fed information by the mole (PC Bindra) from inside AC12 so he would have known Steve Arnott was going to see Huntley's husband. The way the ACC was so uncomfortably desperate to bed Huntley indicated he possibly has issues with women. Why is he so keen to close AC12, just to save Huntley, don't think so. Also he has the opportunity to attack women unseen, because sometimes he doesn't go home to his family, when 'he's working late' he stays in the hotel. I think Huntley as just used both her husband and ACC Hilton for her own personal gain.

Ah, that's interesting because I've watched this series as a newbie, having no idea of what's gone on previously. Enjoying it immensely.
That Roz Huntley, you've got to hand it to her......or perhaps not. She's harmless enough.
I'll get me uniform............ Evenin' all.

STAB IN THE DARK.
Solicitor Lakewell for Balaclava man, as picked by others.
ACC Hilton was the caddys boss, criminally speaking, and will spin out into series 5.
Huntley is covering for Lakewell who she is sexually involved with.

Re: Line of Duty
I'm not completely convinced Minnie.
I don't think Huntley set out to deliberately 'cover' for anyone. Someone set Michael Farmer up and I think she happily went along with it as she was under pressure for an arrest.
The lawyer may well be balaclava man as a few pieces do fit that but if he is I don't think Huntley knows that.
Agree that there's more to Hilton and that he's probably in someway dodgy.
I think the last episode of the last series was extended (1.5 or even 2 hours). I wonder if it will be the same this time. I think there's plenty of legs left in the story.
