Worst XI since 2000

Post by MDWat » Thu Mar 30, 2017 6:22 pm

We've been blessed with some great times since 2000, but what's your worst XI from then to now?

One rule - must have started at least one game.

Bikey was decent at times. He was immense against man utd.

Neil wood.
Richard eckersley.
Leon cort.
Dane Richards.
Jutkiewicz for his goal return alone has to feature. Done well elsewhere but awful for us.

Stephen Jordan, whilst not in anybody's best XI, should no way be in the worst. Same goes for Bikey. Now Fred Nimani...I was there at Bolton and he really was dogger! (same goes for Dane Richards too)

I hoped we'd sign McVeigh at the time. He helped us break the 19 game winless run and stay up.

Duane Courtney. A player completely out of his depth.

I know he got a good hat-trick, but Gifton Noel Williams was terrible.

Scored a winning goal against hull away! Delfounso not on my list. Possibly a cudda wudda type off player and who knows what any of your worst x1would have achieved under sd. Its all about timing maybe.

Penny
Roche McGregor Branch Easton
Bermingham Randall Wood Stewart
Bowditch Ricketts

That would get rubbed 10-0 every week in the Championship these days but they've all represented us at that level. Jesus.

As for Jordan - behave!

Its an unpopular opinion of mine, always has been.

But I can't remember a left back that ever made me feel less confident in the last 10 years of watching us. He had at least one massive error in him per game.

Since 2000 and not the last 10 years though Moffitt.

Dane Richards never actually started a game, IIRC. Came on as a sub twice and just wandered around for a bit. Got hooked off after initially being subbed on as 'Marvin Bartley', if I'm not mistaken.

Jordan had some great 9/10 performances; he was superb against Arsenal at home for instance.
He also had plenty of 4/10's.

We've actually done alright since promotion in 2000 in terms of crap players - if you discount loan players then you'd be hard pressed to find properly crap. We've had a truck load of non entities, and plenty of crap periods (Steve Cotterill, mainly) but the year 1999 onwards has been nothing but an upward curve.

It may have been a crap period (debatable on how crap) under Cotterill but he brought some very decent players to Burnley.

Its an old debate that will never be settled. But Cotterill was very good for us and without him we wouldnt be where we are now.

Played his own part in our recent success. Every bit as important in his own way as any manager we have had since Casper.

Never forget his performance at West Ham. He was so slow in mind and body, he kept playing West Ham on side

Easton was a classic case of the wrong mentality allied to a peculiar physique, he just didn't look a footballer, but he has had a decent career in Scotland with ST Johnstone which suggests he wasn't quite as bad as some would suggest.

Scotland is also the market you think we should be signing our 1st team players from, maybe you should think about that when typing your nonsense on players. He was gash then and he gash now.

If we were in league 1 it may be worthwhile. Do I have a Welsh bias for thinking we shouldn't be looking there or an Irish one too ?

It is an awful standard, look at some of the top performers in the league Stokes, Waghorn, Griffiths, Brown etc dross some who would and have struggled in the championship. Even Brendan Rodgers is winning a league there

Stephen Jordan?

The same player who was never given the luxury of having the midfield track back and cover his side of the pitch?

If he had played with George Boyd in front of him he wouldn't have atrracted the attention of the 'boo boys'.
