Where has this been announced?
I would of thanked him for his service and let him go. Lacks signs of progress keeping him.

Last time I saw anything run as much as George Boyd, it was rounding sheep up on "One Man and hid Dog"
Glad that he's still on board !

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
It's a no brainer. Played a key role in us getting promoted, has played well this year, and albeit not stand out at this level, he will be a good squad player.
Get so frustrated by the clowns on here who criticise the likes of Boyd and Arfield (and Dyche for that matter).
He's been a key player in what has, so far, been another great season.

Don't understand why we have Boyd haters
He plays for Burnley always gives his best and Mr Dyche is a massive fan of his
We have some numpties on here if they HATE any Burnley players

Maybe baiting us with an early April fools prank, depending on the Country it's been sent from. I hope he has/does re sign, if only to have around as a squad player.

For crying out loud, leave the lad alone will you. I would much rather have him playing for us,
than against us, that's for sure.
Give him the backing he so richly deserves please.

Deffo an April Fools' joke. I've heard from a reliable source that Boydy has bought that Sweet Kiosk he used to work at in Stevenage Railway way Station, and is turning it into a Motivational Speaking Workshop.

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
I'd be happy if he signed a new deal. He has played a great part in another step forward for us , but if we are serious about progressing then he needs to be replaced in the 11. A decent squad player for another season in my opinion.
As a sub we could do a lot worse than bring someone on with the engine of Boyd to help see games out when the opposition is tiring.

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
Good news for the framework but bad news for any attempts to play more football, I'd suggest.
Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
I think we need to be looking for better quality next year personally.
He has been a good servant for us and key to the promotions. If I thought he could play a role coming off the bench then maybe it would be worth giving him another year. But I don't think he is an impact substitute type player - he's a wide player who has little pace and no longer takes on the full back or puts crosses in. From that point of view what impact could be make from the bench other than "shutting up shop" and that can be done by a more defensive player.
We also don't want a bench full of players who are 30 years+ (Scotty, Boyd, Barton, Marney)

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
Whether there is any truth in this or not, it does annoy me that we have a number among us who are happy to jettison any player they deem to have reached their level. Surely the manager is the best judge of such matters? If there is a contract offer for George Boyd then that means Sean Dyche wants him around the place.
In an ideal world, the offer, if it is there, would be accompanied with the news that new blood will be brought in to strengthen / improve that area of the team and the player should be under no illusions that his place will be under threat. If the player wants to play first and foremost, he can walk away. If he wants to stay and fight for his place, then all well and good if it brings out the best in the player.
Surely both parties would benefit from that?
I am aware though, that this is not an ideal world, but I bang on regularly about loyalty and respect from players to clubs, and it should work both ways.
That said, the above post also makes a good point about the bench.
Who would be a manager?

I dont see barton being with us next year and marney is likely to be out until at least Christmas.
With marney I doubt we'll see him play much at all as the squad should develop further with signings who will be established by then

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
Spot in on the loyalty.
Has been a very important player for us in our most succesful period in 40 years. And has played a critical role in our results this year.
He might not whip crosses in like beckham or dribble like hazard but he is as hard working a player you will see. Which as Dyche himself says is the minimum requirement.
Without players with the effort and determination of Boyd we would be relegated by now.
If he is offered a new contract good. Because while an upgrade in the first eleven is probably required sooner than later we need to retain the core squad that got us here at least one more season. Continuity with new blood added is important.
Oh and he still plays for us. So he deserves our respect and backing.

Not a wind up at all simply facts and richly deserved for a player who gives everything that the gaffer asks. Again, first name on the team sheet.

He will be first name on the teamsheet for some and not in the squad for others. That's simply opinion on football.

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
Problem for Boyd is the job he is asked to do. It thwarts his attacking play and a lot of his work goes unnoticed. If he was attacking all the time the poor cross he does is negated by the good one he puts in next time. As it is he puts a poor cross in and because for the next fifteen minutes or so he has to defend track back etc you just remember the cross.

My only issue with Boyd being given a new deal would if we weren't also looking to upgrade. He'd still be a very useful squad player.

I hope he'll be a bench player at best next season, but even so, bench players need new contracts and are vital to the squad so no problems here.

Sad day for me offering that very limited footballer a contract.
Might sound like a knee jerk reaction but if that's if we are offering contracts to George Boyd that's me done with a season ticket! "Total limited footballer ((I say that very loosely)

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
He has justified his fee, but started to fade half way through last years championship season. Definitely not a PL player, can only see SD in the PL playing him regularly. Think we need to be giving Brady a run. If he is good enough to captain a country that did well in the Euros then he should be starting for BFC

Well Dyche stuck with him and he came up with the winner. A valuable squad player for me if we're going to progress long term but he's deserved a lot of credit this season.

If you can't see what Boyd gives our team then you're probably best not bothering with a season ticket. Fortunately Dyche picks him to do a job and he does it very well. Took his goal well tonight and gave us protection as always. If he has signed a new contract, I'm ok with that.Dodobdobodobo wrote:Sad day for me offering that very limited footballer a contract.

Re: Great news breaking about Boydy
Possibly one of the strangest players we have - he cab hide away for most of the season and then just seems to come alive when we need him.
The run in last season, he was immense!!
Hoping he turns it up a notch again for our run in this year.......and next season too I would have no problem with. The effort this lad puts in, shames most of the FL never mind just the prem.... There would be a few rivals who would love to snap him up which is worth another contract alone.

Bit of a false dichotomy being used by some on here, as if the only options are 'Boyd gets a new deal' and 'Signing better players', rather than the far more likely option of 'Boyd gets a new deal AND we're planning on signing better players'
