Re: That sinking feeling
If you weren't worried when there was 10 point gap with that 4 consecutive away run in, where we were historically never going to get any points, coupled with the difficult remaining home games... then.... I don't know.

Yes, Spurs at home was a must win.

I was worried weeks ago. I said that 10 points wasn't enough and most of the board disagreed, saying we were safe.JohnDearyMe wrote:Anyone else starting to feel worried?

Lose to Stoke and then I'll be worried.
Re: That sinking feeling
Yep, 2 points from 7 games is relegation form and we're not looking likely
to win.
Dyche will have to change it on Tuesday against Stoke and start with Defour and Brady.
Possibly also with Westwood.
We do need to win that one and ease growing concerns.
Lose it it and we're in the mire!

I'm worried, and I'll be really worried if we lose Tuesday. Still all to play for, team needs us all behind them 100% now.

Re: That sinking feeling
Defour has to start against Stoke, we created nothing at all, we created 2 chances at Sunderland, so that's 2 chances in 180 minutes - awful

You've got to say that the three home games that are effectively dead rubbers for the away side, Stoke West Brom and West Ham will keep us up.
But if you're not worried, given the way we play- one mistake and we lose- then you are really naive.

Re: That sinking feeling
I'm worried until the 93rd minute of a game and only then start to breathe easy if we are 3-0 up and there's 2 mins of stoppage time left. I'm a Burnley fan and been there done that got the tatoo (not actually) since 1973 so used to it by now

The form is poor, we create little and look toothless. We are in a relegation battle and teams below are winning. Need a more positive approach against Stoke.

Re: That sinking feeling
I can't help but feel that we might be the team to drop through the trapdoor in the last week or so.
The yield of only two points from the three winnable games against Hull, Swansea, and Sunderland showed me that we really don't have what it takes to win away. This puts untenable pressure on us at home. We played ok today right up until we conceded a sloppy opener from a set piece. After that we looked completely ragged. Nerves are beginning to show. We need at least four points from the next two matches. Our points cushion is looking very precarious.
I fear we will fold.

Bookies odds for us to be relegated have barely changed following today's result. That'll be because we were supposed to lose to Spurs.

Worried is a little strong but certainly not as comfortable as I was even though I thought those already celebrating a few games ago were getting carried away. I didn't see such a dramatic up turn in others and allied to not taking any points from the last few games. We need to pick up more points and quickly, or things could really blow up in our faces.

But we should be going to Sunderland, Swansea, Hull etc and getting more than 2 points. Just because we're away doesn't excuse it.
I can't see us beating Stoke either.

I've never felt anything other than uncomfortable, never for one minaret thought we were safe. We are definitely looking over our shoulder and if we put in another performance like we did in the second half I dread to think were the next point is going to come from.

Second half performance via TV was poor, pressure will increase but one win will change everything. Not worried yet but nerves now a part. West Ham could yet be drawn into the problem, may be a big game!

Re: That sinking feeling
Right now every point is crucial, we're only 5 points above the relegation zone..
Whilst we won't be relegated if we don't win, we're being dragged into a relegation fight and we don't have an easy run of games coming up.
Stoke, Boro (a), UTD, Palace (a), WBA, Bournemouth, West Ham.
Now I'm not trying to be a miserable sod, but you'd have to wonder where the necessary points are going to come from in there, and we're already stuck in a rut in regards to results.

Re: That sinking feeling
TBH I doubt wba Bournemouth and West Ham will have a lot to play for (hopefully not) the next 2 games could well yield a healthy 4-6 points .If they produce 1 were very much in the sh1t but I still feel we're just a bit better than the current bottom 3 and suspect we'll finish 15th
Re: That sinking feeling
Hells bells! Spurs are a really good side and we more than matched them in the first half to the extent that they were forced to switch formation to match us up. They then got to grips with the game and their superiority came to the fore. Some people really need a reality check if they think we should be regularly beating teams like this.
What will really determine where we finish the season are our games against Stoke, West Brom and West Ham at home and Boro, Palace and Bournmouth away. We probably need 5 or 6 points from those to be safe, which is certainly achievable. Anything from Man U at home and Everton away would be a bonus.
They key thing was to come through this tricky period still well above the drop zone and so far that is the case. There is plenty still to play for and certainly no need to panic just yet. Indeed we could get no points for another six games before we likely get into must win territory.
Keep the faith!

Re: That sinking feeling
I am worried in the context of the last two months.
Eight games and no win, this has to be a cause for concern at any stage of the season.
Yes I am still confident we will stay up and we will win away, two wins in the next two games alleviate all the worries, but when you are not playing well, wins are hard to come by.
I understand where people are coming from and justifiably so, our form is poor and we are very rigid and predictable in our formation and tactics.
People do come on here after a defeat and spout off and we can shrug it off, but after two months, five defeats and three draws it does become harder.
These next two games now take an extra significance, as stated above they are not must win games, but we need a win from somewhere, just to give everybody a boost.

Re: That sinking feeling
Stoke might not be a 'must win' but certainly a must not lose.
Hopefully for obvious reasons as if we did lose to Stoke then it'd be 2 points
from our last 8 games and if Hull and Swansea win their next games which is more than likely
as they are both at home to Boro' then they'd be just two points behind us.
Swansea would have a game in hand too.
We don't look as if we can win a game at present so a win against Stoke would give us
some confidence back and set us up for the remaining games as well as keep us 5 points clear.

Re: That sinking feeling
I have to say, is only one point in two home games a sure sign of a side that's doomed? Do you see any of our rivals picking up wins from the home games against Chelsea and Spurs?
And while we're on the subject of easy matches, tell me who is the odd one out of the following: Swansea, Bournemouth, Man United, Liverpol, Burnley, Swansea again, West Ham? Answer - Burnley - we are the only team (out of 7) that has avoided defeat at Hull since Silva arrived. Won 6, drawn 1. Don't get the idea that Hull is a pushover.
We have won 5 of our last 7 home games. Now I dare say if the crowd starts putting pressure on the players it might help them lose form; but for now, that form is pretty good. We don't have to play the top two again this season.

Stoke have failed to score in their last four away games. A good omen?
