Totally bizarre use of subs that cost us today. We were fine until Dyche swapped Gray for Vokes, after which point we were downright turgid. Brady on the right and Defour on the left was also poor.

All down to Dyche today. Poor decision taking Gray off allowed Spurs to play 10 or 15 yards higher up the pitch and totally changed the game. Barnes and Vokes will never be an effective partnership. Brady on the right another poor decision. Defour on the left yet another poor decision. Combine that with two gifted goals and the worst display in central midfield all season and the second half was a recipe for disaster. Need something on Tuesday now. Surely we can't be any worse than that second half. Need to get some creativity into the team.

Stoppage time not included - always been that subs don't require rating if coming on after 70 mins

Baffling subs made by SD today. Taking Gray and Boyd off were game changing moments as with them 2 playing we were fairly comfortable. Hendrick and Barton were culpable for Spurs' chances and goals and playing our most gifted centre midfielder out on the left and our best left midfielder on the right was mind boggling. Spurs were good but we gave them the goals and made it easier for them by our poor play and very strange decisions from the touch line

Heaton 6
Lowton 6
Keane 5 Some errors that could have easily lead to goals.
Mee 6
Ward 7 MOM
Boyd 4
Barton 4
Hendrick 3 -1 for the assist
Arfield 4 the corner at 65 minutes ish was laughable.
Barnes 5 offered nothing
Gray 5 Jet lagged, rightly hooked

Vokes 5 same as Barnes

Dyche 3 Reactive not proactive. Game was in the balance ( possibly winnable after the first half display ) and only altered it when chasing the game.... again.

Tottenham didn't even turn up IMO but were better than us ( don't know how ) in every department.

Very unhappy!

Heaton 6 - couple of good saves and couple of times when deflected ball out in danger area

Lowton 7
Keane 7
Mee 8
Ward 8* - all defence played pretty well generally

Boyd 7 - only one to show anything positive in mf
Barton 5 - how many times did he give it away?
Hendrick 5 - pretty anonymous
Arfield 5 - as said numerous times this season, should not be starting

Gray 5 - didn't help that service was awful
Barmes 6

Vokes 6 - did more than Gray when he came on
Brady 6 - showed glimpses of what he can do

Disappointing day - never created anything, lacked ideas, and too many times we gave the ball away. Spurs could have had 4 or 5. Bigger picture mind you, it is against the 2nd best team in the country, so when you put it into perspective, it's to be expected. Judge it better Tuesday

Heaton 7
Lowton 6
Keane 7
Mee 7
Ward 7 mom good game
Boyd 5 usual running around which pleases SD
Barton 4 clearance or pass for 1st goal shocking and generally poor
Hendrick 4 pretty much invisible during the game
Arfield 4 like boyd runs with absolutely no end product
Barnes 6
Gray 7 thought he kept there defence on there toes as any loose ball would be chased

Dyche 3 fairly even and comfortable going into the break but dropped a complete b0ll0ck with them changes
Now definitely puts us into the relegation mix
Can't see many more points this season if he keeps the same dull line up and predictable tactics

Heaton 6 lucky his first half parry didn't lead to a goal
Lowton 7 very solid
Keane 6 below par today
Ward 8 another very good performance
Boyd 5 very average
Barton 5 so many misplaced passes
Hendrick 4 really off his game today
Gray 7 really effective
Barnes 6 struggled against very good defenders
Vokes 5
Brady 5

SD handed Spurs the game on 57 minutes. Incredible substitution. If Gray wasn't injured then it really would take some answering. And Brady on the right / Defour on the left is comical to say the least. Hendrick and Barton were totally ineffective today so why not try Westwood and Defour? Starting to get worried as Dyche has given up trying to make something happen and has reverted back to the damage limitation tactics that saw us relegated 2 years ago. Awful today from SD, a real head scratcher.

Heaton 7.1 good save not a lot he could do with both goals.
Lowton 5.cant cross the road.
Ward 8.Player of year and yet again our best player
Mee 7 Thought him and Keane played well.Let down by the dross in front of them.
Keane 7 as above.
Boyd 3 Absolute woeful.Week after week does nothing but cos he runs up and down the line all game he is automatic choice
Barton 4 First 3 passes went to spurs and never got going.
Hendrick.3 Think we paid 10 pence for him.Surely 10 million can't be right.Fantastic assist for spurs opener.
Arfield 3.Cos he can't get lower.Cant run, can't cross, can't head, can't tackle and can't pass but as Boyd he defends the full back.Should never play for Burnley again.
Gray 6 At least made them think.Appalling decision by the Dyche to take him off
Barnes.4 try to win a header or hold the ball up and stop trying to win free kicks please.
Subs
Vokes 4 did nowt but the service the front men get is criminal
Brady 6 did more than the other 2 clowns who started wide in the first 2 mins he was on.
Defour 5 Lets put our best midfielder on left wing.
Dyche 0 appalling decision after appalling decision today.Stop shouting SHAPE every 2 minutes and look at what's going on.I don't care if we are playing Barcelona at home we have to try to win.Made zero attempt to win the game today.Defend, defend, defend and then HOOF.In the last 2 seasons you have spent just short of 60 million. We are now in a relegation scrap so pick you best team with a bit of creativity and try to win or sling your hook.

Not a good day. Particularly the second half.
Toothless up front, and very, very predictable, though Gray's runs kept Spurs on their toes. Unless he was injured, really don't know why he was taken off.
Odd substitutions all round.
We were well beaten in the end by an excellent Spurs side, who ground out a first goal (awful attempted clearance ) then went clear with ease.

Played very well first half without forcing Lloris into a good save.
They came out second half playing at a higher tempo and we couldn't live with them.
Their 5 man midfield were superior in every position to our 4.
Despite all that Hendrick was at fault for both goals and blind passed away two other balls that led to chances.

Ok first half, although we were fortunate when Ali blazed over. Second half was again pretty even until, the frankly bizarre, substitution of Gray for Vokes. The first goal came from poor defending from a corner...again. Their second was an excellent quick counter coming from us losing the ball in midfield.
Spurs are second for a reason, but we were poor today and that is two defeats on the bounce at Fortress Turf Moor; the game on Tuesday is a must not lose.

Heaton 7. made some good saves and kept the score low
Ward 6. did ok
Lowton 6. ok
Mee 7. On his own today his partner deserted him
Keane 4. Dreadful today his worst performance since 2014/15 season
Arfield 6. Did ok 1st half but 2nd he was poor. He created liitle and when he did get into a good position he blew it
Hendrick 4. Anonymous. He played like he had been on the beer all week. This should be a lesson to Dyche don't play this fella
when he comes back from an international week.
Barton 6. His distribution was awful 1st half, but to his credit he never gave up and did not hide.
Boyd 5. Tracked back 1st half got a few tackles in and that is about it. Created zero
Barnes 6. Played ok until Gray went off then his performance went down hill
Gray 7. Played well. Used the ball well today, although never came close to scoring. The team suffered when he went off

Subs
Vokes 5. Did nothing and got little service
Defour and Brady not on long enough. Those two should have come on with 30 min to go noit the last 15.

Dyche played the same team, and they put the same negative performance out like they did at Sunderland 2 weeks ago.

We need to make changes on Tuesday and have a real go at Stoke. I hope he drops either Boyd or Arfield to the bench the pair of them create little

Outclassed in the second half unfortunately, and generally just a little bit more hesitant and diffident than we've been used to seeing at home.

Heaton - 7 - A couple of decent saves, although also lucky to get away with a couple of uncharacteristic spills.

Lowton - 7 - Got forward to decent effect, although his crossing let him down a couple of times unfortunately.

Ward - 7 - A real outlet in the first half, steady when we were on the ropes a bit after the break.

Keane - 5 - Really poor afternoon for Keane after the highs of his England opportunity. Looked a bit lacking in focus if we are honest.

Mee - 7 - Decent afternoon's work.

Hendrick - 5 - Some decent moments, but after getting frustrated by the wastefulness of some teammates, got dragged down himself and he'll want to forget his last 20 minutes. Think he also made a rick for the opening goal.

Barton - 4 - The disease he caught at Sunderland is clearly still affecting him. Probably his worst league game for Burnley. Unable to compete physically with Dembele in particular, and his passing was sloppy from start to finish, with even passes that found their man underhit and behind them far too frequently.

Arfield - 6 - Good, positive approach play and pprobably our most constructive player for long spells, but some poorer moments like the rest as our belief waned, and goodness knows why his teammates kept insisting on laying the ball back to him for the shot on his weaker left foot rather than his right.

Boyd - 5 - A couple of decent moments, but passed up at least two opportunities to set us away with bad choices.

Barnes - 4 - Ok in the first half, not at the races in second, admittedly after a change in set up made his job more difficult.

Gray - 6 - Assume he came off due to a niggle because he was causing Spurs problems, and we missed him big style when he went off. Really lacked his ability to get us up the pitch and in behind.

Vokes - 5 - Presumably the change was forced, but sticking him up front with Barnes always looked a suspect strategy and we lacked any cohesive attacking shape once he went off.

Brady - 5 - A couple of positive runs but with two targets in the box, it was odd to see him operating on the right wing, rather than the left which so clearly suits him better.

Defour - Not on long enough, but clearly should have been on at least 5 minutes earlier and wasted in that left wing berth.

Firstly, Spurs are a great team. They're as good as anyone at Burnley this season, probably including Chelsea, and ironically the second sub forced on them on half time helped them - they went to a back 4, stopped the space behind Davies that Gray was relishing, pushed Dier further up into the space that Barnes was operating, and allowed Alli to roam from deep to great effect.

However, they were helped immensely when Gray went off, and if it was tactical, it was a bad move. Even if it was forced, it was badly conceived - a front 2 of Barnes and Vokes is one dimensional, and it was never likely to work unless the plan was to sling the ball in from relatively deep, in which case a midfielder capable of delivering that ball in - either Brady or Defour and preferably both - was needed. We immediately began to look ponderous, incohesive and Spurs turned the screw. By the time Dyche reacted, even in part, we were 1-0 down.

Most concerning, however, we lacked a bit of belief today - all the way through, but especially once we went behind. The crowd got frustrated too - that's counterproductive. The players are clearly a bit low at the moment, after 2 months without a win, and they need our help on Tuesday night.

Heaton 8 – made a couple of outstanding saves
Lowton 8 – Good defensively and going forward especially first half
Keane 7 – did well for the most part
Mee 7 – brave and put himself on the line
Ward 8 (mom) – as Lowton – great play from our fullbacks today
Boyd 7 – worked hard and did really well first half
Barton 5 – very wasteful in possession today
Hendrick 6 – good first half but faded second
Arfield 6 – like Boyd, did really well in the first half but he’s lost Billy’s Boots
Gray 7 – a real handful
Barnes 5 – won very little today
Vokes 5 – had a lot of time to make a real impact and pretty much passed it up
Defour/Brady – maddeningly not on long enough.

A strange game – good first half performance although Spurs had a golden chance that “England’s saviour” made a massive hash of. Second half they improved but we still caused them problems until Dyche bizarrely withdrew Gray for Vokes. Spurs’ defence was suddenly comfortable, they all stepped up the pitch and we totally lost the middle. Disappointing and demonstrated we need better forwards for next season.

Spot on that Spice, was going to post similar, especially the summation after Gray went off.

Heaton 5 (changed from a 4 because I forgot a save but he did shovel a lot out into dangerous areas)
Lowton 7
Ward 8
Mee 7
Keane 5
Barton 6
Hendrick 4
Arfield 7
Boyd 6
Barnes 7
Gray 6

Vokes 5

The injuries changed the game because Spurs then went 4-4-2 and dominated whereas I thought we edged the first half against their back three. I agree with Dyche, they put on better players too.

A plucky defeat against a top side is tempting to write but I thought there were a few international hangovers today, with Heaton very dodgy, Keane way off his best and Hendrick woeful, as he was in the recent Irish friendly (where a national paper said he was carrying too much weight compared to his Derby days which I thought was interesting).

I felt Dyche made a howler by leaving Hendrick on, and lo and behold he was to blame for goal one, then gave it away badly seconds before goal two, just before Barton was also mugged. Putting Defour and Brady on and both out of position sums up a bad day at the office for Dyche and after not taking the initiative against Sunderland I feel we need to win against Stoke to ease any nerves.

Brady out of position guarenteed something inevitable - that Arfield would have two shots on his left foot after the change. Sod's law.

Heaton 6 Not at fault for goals but only fair distribution today
Lowton 8 Solid defensive work with some good positioning, tackling and heading. Often stood in space waiting in vain for a pass
Keane 5 Dodgy today
Mee 7 Had a lot to do covering all across the back line today. If only his distribution was better
Ward 8* Excellent job today
Boyd 6 Huffed and puffed but fairly ineffective
Hendrick 5 busy but mainly ineffective and that pass out to Dier from the post - what was he thinking?
Barton 5 Way off his usual self today with several dangerous bad passes. Didn't keep the ref informed about what was happening.
Arfield 5 huffed, puffed, did nowt.
Gray 7 How effective he was being was highlighted after he went off
Barnes 5 Ineffective without his elbows and ankle biting

Vokes 5 Almost forgot he was on the pitch he made such a small contribution
Brady 5 On the right? Really?

Dyche 4 Questionable use of subs again (His lowest ever mark from me!!!!)

When we play well it's hard to find a MOM.

Today Mee, Lowton, Ward could of won it

Frustrating again, we can play passing and penetrating football in patches but as soon as it gets near the box it's stumble and miskick time.
Gray was the only threat we possessed. He probably controlled the ball better than he ever has but we just won't commit to getting forward so his and Barnes efforts are wasted for most of the game.
Spurs are one of the better sides to play at Turf Moor this season, the inexplicable sloppy passes by Barton and Hendrick should have made it a drubbing.

Tuesday could be pivotal for our season.

Heaton - 7
Lowton - 6
Keane - 6
Mee - 6
Ward - 7
Boyd - 5
Hendrick - 5
Barton - 4
Arfield - 5
Barnes - 4
Gray - 6

Vokes - 5

We were just about competitive in the first half without ever testing their keeper, but Dyche made a real pigs ear of it in the second by hooking Gray so early.

Barnes managing to stay on for 90 minutes was a bad joke.

The situation with Defour is even worse. Touch and go for Sunderland 2 weeks ago, on the bench again yesterday and just getting a run out on the left wing for 15 mins when we were 2-0 down. The fact that he didn't come on sooner in his actual position, considering both Barton and Hendrick were offering nothing, was baffling.

Spurs are a good side but we didn't half gift them the game in the second half.

Big response needed on Tuesday, because we're on a rotten run at the moment and we badly need a win.

Heaton - 7 : made a number of good saves
Lowton - 6 : ok - crossing not great again
Keane - 5 : worst game of the season.
Mee - 6 : better than his partner
Ward - 7 (MOM) : excellent game...especially first half
Barton - 4 : worst game in a long time. Passing shocking
Hendrick - 4 : not too bad a first half but awful second
Arfield - 5 : thought he played well in first half. Second half was poor and that corner was embarrassing. So frustrating watching a right footed player having to struggle with his left foot because he is playing on the wrong wing.
Boyd - 5 : again did ok first half but offered zero in second.
Barnes - 5 : got little out of their centre backs but showed some nice touches. He should have been hooked for Vokes then gave away the ball for their second goal.
Gray - 6 : looked our only real outlet and ran the channels well.

Vokes - 5 : looked ok when he came on but the service he got was so one dimensional and he is playing against 3 international centre backs and probably the strongest defenders in the Premier League.
Brady - 5 : I thought he looked decent when he came on. See comments on Arfield re playing wingers on wrong side.

Baffling decision to take Gray off and it changed the game. Spurs were good but there was nothing in it before half time. We performed much better at White Hart Lane against a much stronger Spurs side.

Disappointing and the league table now looks very worrying

Heaton - 8 made a few good saves, not at fault for either goal.
Lowton - 6 a few good runs forward but never enough of a threat on the right wing. Broke up play well defensively.
Keane - 6 a few shakey moments and some questionable passing.
Mee - 7 did well to contain Janssen, making tackles all over the place.
Ward - 8* easily MoM. I said to my dad he's a contender for player of the season. Showed discipline in defence and was our most relative attacking player. He can dribble too!!

Boyd - 6 did fine. Worked hard. Created very little.
Hendrick - 5 barely involved in the first half when we played well, didn't see enough of the ball.
Barton - 4 was on the ball plenty but gave it away frequently. His worst game for us.
Arfield - 6 did okay on the wing but again didn't create enough.

Barnes - 6 thought he did well feeding off scraps.
Gray - 6 strange idea to take him off, was doing fine until that point. Held the ball up well when we got it to him.

Brady - N/A played out of position and brought on too late.
Defour - see above
Vokes - 5 didn't really get involved
