After today how can you possibly suggest Hendrick and Barton in CM. Between them they created 0 chances for BFC and 6 for Spurs!!!

Dyche needs to set up a team to win the game and not to stop Stoke from playing and then hope to nick one.

Boyd and Arfield need to move aside for Defour and Westwood.

Brady is a luxury but I would contemplate him before Hendrick who was, along with Barton, pretty woeful today.

Defour for Barton. Otherwise same. Brady hasn't even come close to earning a start.

We have beaten stoke type teams all season at home. So we should be going for it from the off. Get an early goal and take the game to them. None of this nil nil half time and see where it gets us.

5 in midfield would have given us more stability today but also more attacking options.

Vokes needs more minutes. But I would go 451 with Hendrick off Gray.

Defour and Brady have to start. Especially against a side like Stoke.

So, in your first sentence you say you want a more attacking team and then you say we should play with an extra holding player at the expense of a winger and that we should play 4 central midfielders. Amazing.

Arfield has been our best player across the last two games incidentally.

That sentence there says everything about the situation we're in.

I like Arfield. He's been reliable, does his job and you know what you'll get from him but unfortunately he's not good enough imo to be a regular starter in a Premier League team

Defour has to start for me and in the middle whether in a 451 or a 442. If we put out the same team and formation as yesterday it will be more of the same.

let's play our best X1 players.
Try and go for the win instead of the draw.

I doubt we'll stray from 442 nor do I think we'll change from the Gray/Barnes partnership.

Seems we all agree Defour and Brady should start but if SD has one fault, it's his loyalty to certain players. I'm betting will still be the same team as started yesterday.

Heaton
Lowton Keane Mee Ward
Hendrick Westwood Defour Brady
Gray Vokes

Think if Defour plays in midfield in a 4 4 2 we need some legs alongside so that means Westwood instead of Barton. Barnes has been poor lately so think Sam deserves a chance to start.

Or one that will never happen

Heaton
Keane Tarkowski Mee
Lowton Hendrick Defour Barton Brady
Gray Vokes

The first name on the team sheet for me is Ward. Consistent and on form. Why would we pick a team without him in it.

We're not playing a top 6 outfit which means Boyd's work rate will not be nearly as effectual. I agree with VegasClaret's team. Defour starting central and Brady on the correct side of the pitch are vital.

Heaton
Lowton Keane Mee Ward
Hendrick DEFOUR Barton BRADY
Barnes Gray

Blessing and curse for Dyche is he has options.

If Gray plays - and if he's fit i do think he should - i think we have to play 442. He needs someone able to play with their back to goal playing with him. That is probably Barnes.

In which case, its a question of selecting 4 to play behind. I think Barton will get the nod because of his character and experience, but he's been our weakest link in the last 2 games. The alternative is Westwood to play the holding role.

If he's fit then i might be tempted to play him with Defour - another experienced, big game player and i think that's what we need right now. Arfield should start wide - he's one of our few forward players who looks reasonably confident - and then i'd play either Hendrick or Brady on the opposite flank I think.

So:

Heaton
Lowton Keane Mee Ward
Arfield Barton Defour Brady (or Hendrick)
Barnes Gray.

When Brady was preparing to come on, we won a corner (our last of the game). Scott Arfield put in a Sunday league cross. Brady has scored and assisted already from set pieces, granted without actually playing well. But it's those moments of quality that he's capable of producing, and we know Arfield simply isn't.

Team doesn't make a great deal of difference for me,as lots of people are saying we simply need to set up to win instead of setting up not to lose, this tactic simply gives the opposing team the initiative.

Agree with Clarets pice with the exception of playing Hendrick instead of Barton.

Barton has been woeful recently and a reminder that he needs to up his game would probably have a positive impact on him. Hendrick is more than capable of providing the defensive cover we need allowing Defour to act as the playmaker.

Agree about Arfield, as he has been putting in good shifts of late. With Brady on the left as well, it could give us the final product, instead of the running around with nothing to show for it.

Forgive me if I'm just missing something but why would you want Barton on the right of a midfield 3, maybe a risk but in a formation like this why not throw ginnelly in and give stoke something to think about this way we'd have 2 actual wingers on the pitch with the luxury of a sitting midfielder although I'm not sure Westwood would be my choice, would be tarks or Barton for me, the thing we'd need to do then is actually play a system to get in behind but that would also mean gray playing a different game, not sure such changes could work at this stage of the season !

Playing Ginnelly would be strange for more than one reason.

Heaton
Lowton Keane Mee Ward
Boyd Westwood Defour Brady
Barnes Gray

Brady on the left wing, and Defour in his natural position of centre mid. No more round pegs in square holes. Joey needs a break, and Hendrick is way off form, he was poor at Sunderland as well. Scotty did alright first half, but couldn't do a thing right second.

That said Stoke are definitely not Spurs, and it will be a lot more physical on Tuesday, so I suspect that SD, with his loyal habit, will start with the same team as Saturday.

Central midfield was toothless yesterday and if Dyche has any faith in his signings both Defour and Westwood should come in.

Drop Barnes done nothing for a few games just gets in the face of the other team but nothing in front of goal, bring in vokes we need height v Stoke.

Drop Barton done nothing for a few games he looks knacked and is stating to give the ball away, he needs a rest bring in Defour

Drop Arfield he offers NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING out wide, bring in Brady

when fit bring in Gudmundsson and drop Boyd like Arfield he offers NOTHING out wide we need to get the bloody ball in the box

If you really want to shake things up a bit;
Heaton
Lowton, Keane, Mee, Ward
Gray, Hendricks, Defour, Brady
Vokes, Barnes

Or maybe
........................Heaton
............Keane, Tarkowski, Mee
Lowton.......................................Ward
............Hendricks, Barton, Brady
.......................Vokes, Gray

Or why not go the whole hog with a team containing the quickest players we have;
Heaton
Lowton, Keane, Mee, Ward
Darykwa, Hendricks, Defour, Brady
Gray, Barnes

Now I'm going to put the whole squad back in the bag and see what combination i can pull out next. :?

Never mentioned a more attacking team per se but hey ho
It's the abilty to create we have lacked recently, there are too many aimless balls into nowhere.

Your opinion on Arfield hardly reflects that of the majority of fans both in the ground and in the pubs and clubs post match.

For someone who articulates on formations and tactics I find it amazing you think we play with wingers.

A winger is somone who takes on and beats defenders and whips crosses into the box. Hardly descriptive of Arfield and Boyd. Brady may not have the defensive capabilty but he can cross a ball.

I actually like both of them, of the 2 widemen it would always be Arfield over Boyd for me but we need to try and create chances and changing things may allow that.

Having £25m on the bench whilst nothing happens on the pitch is baffling to say the least.

Yep, stay in the game, workmanlike but devoid of quality. Having said that if he brings Defour and Brady on around 65 mins at 0-0 I'd be quietly confident.

We need to take a few more risks and be less predictable.
