Re: Japan/UK immigration
I take it you mean Japan make up only 1.5% of the UK population? Obviously we don't need their skill sets as much as others. Not as many Sushi bars as Chinese restaurants for instance.

I'd like to see us allow in a lot more Japanese women. They tend to be a lot slimmer and less feisty than the home grown ones.

What's to discuss ?
You need to flesh it out with facts about their immigration rules.

No not for instance, it hasn't worked like that.Quickenthetempo wrote: Obviously we don't need their skill sets as much as others. Not as many Sushi bars as Chinese restaurants for instance.
We haven't built a load of Chinese restaurants and then sought the labour from China.
The Chinese have been coming here over quite a length of time because of various reasons including our ties with them, like Hong Kong for instance.

Less feisty - think you might find them tough as nails behind closed doors - like most women reallyAlanstevensonsgloves wrote:I'd like to see us allow in a lot more Japanese women. They tend to be a lot slimmer and less feisty than the home grown ones.

Re: Japan/UK immigration
Hi Pstotto, can you explain the stats? I doubt we are comparing the numbers of Japanese moving to UK with the number of UK citizens moving to Japan. Are we talking about total numbers of migrants in each country - with the migrants coming from anywhere in the world?Pstotto wrote:Japan 1.5% of population

I worked for 4 years with a major Japanese company here in London. It can take a little time to get to understand them. Their culture is very "formal" by western standards. I've also visited Tokyo a few occasions for business and enjoyed it every time. I'm looking forward to spending some leisure time in Japan.
Linking to another thread: the Japanese tend to live longer than most in western society. With an ageing population they encourage people to continue working - usually in different, let's call them "age appropriate" roles - post-retirement.
I could live on sushi and sashimi for ever.
Re: Japan/UK immigration
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (groan.) 1.5% of Japan's population are immigrants from elsewhere. In the UK it's 5%. Many would argue that as the Smiths sung 'Some immigrants are better than others.'
Given how they make out how we oh so really needs millions of folk in the UK to 'look after us when we get older' one wonders as to how much kidology is involved when I presume the immigrant population of Somalia and Yemen is slightly less and their governments don't brow beat the populace about multiculturalism and respecting 'diversity.'
What about social trade deals with respective countries, huh? HUH?????????????????
We have an aging population we're not having sex enough, we're being thumpt about our sexuality as a nation whilst everyone else is making out?
Here they are trying to create a lesbian/gay supine populace via computer graphic pulverization

Reply: 'Well if you don't know that, what are you asking me for, you must be effin stupid.'
You know, I kind of agree.

That's called the politics of distraction, Claretbroad, that political manouevre.
England is a tiny speck on Earth. There is plenty of room elsewhere for everyone else to get on just fine. Australia is a massive continent, almost empty of people, even now. The USA is a massive continent and sparsely populated at the time of its formation.

Population density, Claretbroad. England has 5 times the population of Australia.

What makes you think i even took any exams, let alone passed them.
The truth is I've never failed any of the exams I have taken and the secret is never answer a question that ends in Discuss and the reason is that they were always set by some pompous lecturer who would mark the answer in line with his own views ie agree with him - full marks, disagree - jack s**t
Re: Japan/UK immigration
Ah, the intellectual secret of 'let the opposing sides fight among themselves and I'll record it as an 'impartial position' whilst also making that one's intellectual position.'
I passed my exams too, but not really.

I wasn't using the statistics as a way to counter the original argument. It was more to show that statistics can be used to shape debate in different directions.
Psotto - It absolutely was the politics of distraction. It was a counter to the op which was also exactly that.
There are many problems with uk society right now. Immigrants are being scapegoated for many of them which distracts from actually trying to solve these issues.

In all fairness the UK government doesn't need to tell people to have more babies, the Jeremy Kyle gang are popping them out fast enough on their own.RingoMcCartney wrote:China has an aging population. It's communist government said "have more babies"

Re: Japan/UK immigration
Your views are well known on this topic. I happen to disagree - but that doesn't matter, but in the short to medium term: how do you suggest we care for our ageing population, pay for their healthcare, their pensions, provide essential services, etc. if we don't have sufficient younger people working, paying taxes, generating wealth etc.?RingoMcCartney wrote:China has an aging population. We can't just have more babies, the crisis is now, and for the next decade or so.
Incidentally - what do you mean by "is said to have an ageing population"? Do you not accept this point?
Just to put this into some kind of context - and it's pretty frightening for those of working age who will have to foot the bill:
From 2012 to 2032 the populations of 65-84 year olds and the over 85s are set to increase by 39 and 106 per cent respectively whereas 0-14 and 15-64 year olds are set to increase by 11 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.
Source: 2001 census and 2011 census population estimate.
Re: Japan/UK immigration
To allow immigration to create babies for something that may happen in 15-30 years is the most silly politics of all time. When it gets to that time, THEN search for solutions. The graphene age may be upon us then, or WW3. It's the biggest prat idea in the history of politics.

The old age pensions / social care crisis is with us now. We have too many people over 60 and insufficient between 18 and 65 who are generating tax revenues etc.Pstotto wrote:To allow immigration to create babies for something that may happen in 15-30 years is the most silly politics of all time. I was out rather late in Manchester on Sunday with 8 people. At a guess the youngest was 57 and the oldest was 70. Not one of us was going to work on the Monday.
There are a lot of people who retired aged around 50 over 30 years ago, with enhanced pensions and lumps sum. They are now in their 80s and could live another 20 years or more. (Some have major health or care issues). Someone has to pick up the bill.
There have already been big moves to reduce pension costs, but this will take time. To enable me to take my full occupational pension, I had to work to 60 (not 50 as might have been the case in the past). If I had gone earlier I would have had incremental reductions.
I was VERY lucky, colleagues just a couple of years younger than me now have to work till 66, and of course my state pension (along with my wife's) is deferred till 66 (her's from 60). My children will get nothing like such a good deal, and it already looks like they may be expected to work till at least 68. I cannot dare to imagine whether there will be any state pension or benefits in approx. 70 years when my grandchildren will hope to retire.
By the time the current crop of immigrants are of pensionable age they will have paid a lot of money into the system, and if the current trend continues, they will get very little back at a very old age. (They may well have returned home by then).
Re: Japan/UK immigration
Still not convinced immigration is the solution, because it will just compound the situation on and on. Is this a UK phenomenon only? The whites race is over. Why has the white race stopped breeding and instead become a lesbian/gay/feminist/Buddhist-Hindu anti-sex for Western folk propaganda uber alles via state media?
Hmmm?
And with the media battering ram of no critique of that i.e. racist/sexist/homophobia/phobia!
In tandem with the porno worship of B.B.C. TV
Shaft?????? Just exactly who is being shafted?
