Who will win the 2017 Lancashire League?
Who's going to win the Lancashire League?
I've put a poll together here. I'm rather biased, but I reckon it's going to be a toss up between Ramsbottom, Burnley, Lowerhouse and Clitheroe.

In all likelihood it will come down to the new pro's coming into the league, there's a lot of talking up about them. The best players don't always make the best pro's though.

Well, I can't bring myself to vote against Colne, but I can't reasonably vote for Colne, so I'm an abstention. Or, if Clitheroe really have signed all the best players, it could be them.

One of Burnley, Haslingden, Lowerhouse, or Ramsbottom. Clitheroe will do well not sure they've signed all the best players though!.
Re: Who will win the 2017 Lancashire League?
It'll be interesting to see just how strong Clitheroe are. Remember, they are used to not just winning week in, week out but to usually giving the opposition a good spanking. Might be interesting to see how they get on after they've lost a couple. A bit like if Celtic got to play in the English leagues.
PS - pleased to see that someone else has also voted for 'arrod.

It will be interesting to see how Clitheroe go in the very first game Foulthrow. I don't think many will tip Enfield for the title but Enfield away is a very tough game for any side in the league.
Re: Who will win the 2017 Lancashire League?
Can't say I'd be that disappointed to see Enfield win.

Maybe leaving the cans at home and drinking from the bar would be a better way to support the club.cutsy123 wrote:I must admit i take a bag of cans down lowerhouse on a sunny day but dont even watch the cricket

Looking forward to the new season, sunny days and getting out of the house. I know nothing of the new teams but have voted for Burnley but watch Lowerhouse when away. Noted Great Harwood are second favourites. Are they good alongside Clitheroe? Also are they playing 20/20?

Re: Who will win the 2017 Lancashire League?
A finals day sounds good in principle. Hopefully stewards from the clubs will be there to nip trouble in the bud and not disgrace the sport. Granted you can drink all day anyway buy there will be 4 teams there, some with a tribal axe to grind.
I agree clubs need to survive if visitors are taking alcohol in then maybe a Levy

Re: Who will win the 2017 Lancashire League?
LHCC are quite relaxed about people bringing their own cans. Working on the simple principle get them there first. Most then do spend something on the ground as the day goes on? be it in the bar or in the tea room or on the raffle etc etc Putting rules in place and extra charges in place tends to put people off.1Simpleton wrote:A finals day sounds good in principle. I would imagine the LHCC committee would confirm the policy works for them.

Re: Who will win the 2017 Lancashire League?
I've no idea who might or might not be in contention for the league but I would have thought Burnley's chances have been lessened with the departure of Vishal Tripathi. It has to be difficult when you lose an amateur batsman who scored almost 1,000 league runs last year.
I do confidently predict that Nelson will have no points by the end of the first day (I think it is Nelson who are without a game).

By modern day standards Lowerhouse have had some huge crowds In the last 7 or 8 years, probably nothing like the halecyon days of the great pros but I would say they've comfortably past the 2000 mark on 3 or 4 occasions possibly more.
A lot of hard work Is put into the social media side of the club. And coupled with Stans hard work with the junior section and a warm and friendly welcome with a relaxed approach it seems to attract a crowd..

Firstly I don't think the success of Lowerhouse as come because of the locals desire to sup warm beer cans. It's a very well run club by all accounts.
99% of local clubs rely solely on bar takings to keep their club going, to play your part in keeping them going it's best to use the bar facilities. Lowerhouse will need someone to play against for you to enjoy your nice summer day drinking beer at the cricket.

It might help if some of the clubs didn't put the beer prices up when they entertain Lowerhouse on that score.

Bar takings are equally as important to Lowerhouse as they are to any club.Quickenthetempo wrote:Firstly I don't think the success of Lowerhouse as come because of the locals desire to sup warm beer cans. It's a very well run club by all accounts.

If you have nobody in your ground, nobody will buy ale or food.
If you have 100 people in your ground each with a few cans in a bag the chances are they may buy a pint or a pie as the day progresses.
Get them to turn up before worrying about how much they are going to spend whilst there!

Maybe the pub trade will do better if they let people bring their own in?

I have yet to see anybody walk through the gate at Lowerhouse with a slab of 24 on their shoulder. What I have seen thousands of times is folk who have come onto the ground with a small cool bag of cans drinking from the bar towards the end and after the game. That's probably to wash down the meat and potato they've bought whilst waiting to see if they've won the raffle.

Must admit I'm a bit out of touch with the LL. That said I follow the fortunes of Nelson (place of birth), Bacup the team I used to watch as a youngster (Roy Gilchrist et al) and Burnley for obvious reasons. As long as its one of this trio I'd be happy.
