Well, that is what Stephen Bush implies in this hard hitting, pull no punches piece of progressive journalism.

Dyche actually joked about the suggestion, first made by Paul Merson. Now some Oxbridge twerp from London who couldn't be bothered to spend 3 minutes reading what Dyche said inflates some off the cuff remarks into something it clearly isn't.

"Dyche should... ask himself why he believes that a stint at two small English clubs should put him the running for one of the great clubs of English football."
He doesn't believe it. Considering that's the premise of the article, it's a bit of a wasted effort.

Don't you see that in a post Brexit Britain, such comments are both hurtful and dangerous? How do we know comments such as his aren't what inspired the horrible attack on the Asylum Seeker the other night in Croydon? I am ashamed of this country and the hateful path it has chosen to take.randomclaret2 wrote:Dyche actually joked about the suggestion, first made by Paul Merson. Scary that someone is paid let alone well paid to manufacture such utter shite from an off the cuff comment.
If I had had any desire to read the rag seeing what utter shite they consider worthy of publishing would of cured me.

Re: Sean Dyche is a right wing xenophobe and hes crap
A scraping the barrel New Statesman article.
Dyche is correct, bigger English clubs don't appoint British born coaches and Arsenal continue to persist, tolerate and make do with Wenger despite his lack of success in the past 5+ years. Dyche calls it as it is, has Burnley performing one grade above its station and, for his age, can now put together a credible CV with many positive achievements.
A straw man piece of writing, the New Statesman can do better.

Re: Sean Dyche is a right wing xenophobe and hes crap
I think Dyche has a point in respect to English managers but he
seems to imply that they don't get the top jobs because they're English
rather than they're not good enough.
I think it is difficult for an English manager to get to the very top.
The top 5 or 6 teams in England are all managed by overseas coaches.
I wonder why?
Not unlike English players who have consistently failed to perform in Europe and World Cups
so it is for English managers.
I mean the top rated English manager (apart from Dyche that is) is probably Pullis?
Or our Eddie at Bournemouth.
Can't think of many or any more, be it current or previous.
You just can't see any of the top clubs going for either Dyche or Pullis or even Howe although
he may be the most likely to go to a big club in a few years time.
We'd have to get into Europe and do well before Dyche would get a sniff of a big team/club.

Interesting article regarding foreign managers at the link above.
As successful as Sean Dyche has been, it would be interesting to see what proportion of fans actually enjoy the football.

Dyche will never get a top job, imagine ArsenalFanTV after a Dyche away performance he'd be strung up after 1 game of park the bus and lauch it to an isolated midget Alexis. Infact scrap that, Sanchez and Ozil would be on the bench. Paterson, Marney, Boyd and James O'Connor would be in the starting 11.

Well Big Sam got the England job and his style of play is somewhat direct. I can't imagine that would go down well at the Emirates.

I thought the New Statesman had a reputation for quality, intelligent journalism? I'm not sure why they have a "sport" column, but this article is not about sport - and it's not "quality journalism."ClaretMoffitt wrote:Well, that is what Stephen Bush implies in this hard hitting, pull no punches piece of progressive journalism.

I've no idea why a political journalist would want to attack Sean Dyche except to use sport as part of his/NS political campaign: "Dyche's witless words are part of the wider drift of our politics to the right."
Either that, or Bush is an Arsenal fan...

Crap journalism. You can tell instantly from the ill-informed rubbish he writes about Watford:
"At Watford, he took the club to 11th in the Championship. Its new owners judged that he wasn’t the man to take them on – looking at Watford now it is hard to argue that they erred in that decision."
Ignoring the fact that they went through about five managers between sacking Dyche and making it to the Premier League. The Watford fan I know always used to say what a bad decision it was to sack him.

Re: Sean Dyche is a right wing xenophobe and hes crap
.Sean Dyche and Arsenal are like chalk and cheese but they might do each other good.
Dyche no longer could hide behind the mask of the framework and some of the Arsenal stars would learn what hard work really is.
Certainly not a marriage made in heaven, but potential for some real explosive reactions.
Managing the tough guy probably comes easy to Dyche, but managing the mecurial and head strong might just be one step beyond.
Players of intelligence need to see their managers respects footballing intelligence, not sure as yet SD gets that, he tends to see players as needing a system to work within not to express themselves as the moment demands.

Re: Sean Dyche is a right wing xenophobe and hes crap
This is the paragraph I think is most unfair:
But that’s not why Sean Dyche thinks that it’s “highly unlikely” that he will be sitting in the home dugout at the Emirates any time soon. This is why: “I just don't think English managers have still got the kudos of some of their foreign counterparts. That's not a big deal, that's the nature of what it is at the moment.” And it’s not just Arsenal. It is unlikely, Dyche believes, that English managers will be getting “massive” jobs in the Premier League anytime soon, as they have fallen out of fashion thanks to the passion of all things foreign.
Dyche hasn't said English managers have fallen out of fashion thanks to the passion of all things foreign. This thought is attributed to him by the writer (hence no quotation marks). What he in fact said was:
Put to him that it was “sad” British managers are overlooked for the top posts, Dyche replied: “I just think it’s a reality, I don’t think it’s sad at all. The nature of the market is that.
The writer also pointedly ignores the fact Dyche has said he doesn't have enough experience: “I think for Arsenal I need some more experience, more depth to my experience, more growth as a manager and I think it’s fair to say that we’re working hard at what we do here.”
Terrible journalism - but then what do you expect from a Corbyn-hating rag?

Why would it be physical intimidation? I would have thought that the benefit of the reporter meeting Dyche face to face, would be that he would then know that Dyche didn't say he wouldn't get the Arsenal job because he was not foreign, so the entire article needn't have been written.EarbyClaret wrote:There are a lot of assumptions and second guesses in there - simple solution, Stephen Bush to interview Sean and put these points to him face to face.
(Obviously that wouldn't happen, because the inportant thing is to write an article full of hate. Not to be factual. If the reporter met Dyche, he would be unable to persist in his lie about what he believes Dyche to have said - he would have to fall back on plan B, to claim that he's too stupid to understand.

I think it's fair that if a news publication publishes an article about anything, it is assumed that the publication's editor agrees with the journalistic approach of the writer? Ie. if the writer writes lies persistently, then the editor of the publication agrees that writing lies is a good thing? Of course, we don't know if this reporter persistently writes lies; only that he has done in this case.Imploding Turtle wrote:Only idiots judge a news publication by the utterances of a sports writer. Re: Sean Dyche is a right wing xenophobe and hes crap
I'd never heard of this guy and rather than just dismiss his piece out of hand I thought I would read what he has to say about the Gibraltar spat.
Sadly it gets the same cheap sensationalist treatment. He doesn't feel the need to mention that unemployment on Gibraltar is, at 1%, effectively zero and in the nearest town on the Spanish mainland it is around 20%. And that many Spanish citizens rely on Gibraltar for work.
No we will just go with jingoistic nonsense as that seems to suit his style.
So, for me, on balance he is a bit of a cockwomble who should be ignored and he will hopefully crawl back under his stone.

Re: Sean Dyche is a right wing xenophobe and hes crap
Hi IT, if you take a look the journalist is a political journalist not a sports journalist. What we should be asking is why is a political journalist writing about sport and specifically about Premier League football.Imploding Turtle wrote:Only idiots judge a news publication by the utterances of a sports writer. Jesus Christ, you people are really desperate to justify your hatred of the left. Aren't you?
We can all recognise that it isn't a sports article. If it was it might have explored why "non-British" managers are preferred by many football clubs, especially the top Premier League teams. It also might have explored what British managers are lacking and what they need to do to have opportunities to become top Premier League managers. Or, it might have tried to make the argument why the nationality of the manager/coach does not/should not matter.
Thing is, the journalist declared Sean Dyche a "crap" manager. I'm sure quality journalism could avoid the use of the vernacular of the sports fan, if that's what the term is.
