Heaton 7 - Not a lot to do but handled and distributed well when he needed to.
Lowton 7 - Defended solidly, not much in an attacking sense, and the one cross he did deliver was a shocker.
Mee 9* - Brilliant
Keane 7 - Very solid but I've taken a mark off for one header which almost put them through on goal.
Ward 7 - Solid as ever but on another day maybe could have been sent off.
Boyd 6 - He was fantastic off the ball, but with it awful barring the goal.
Barton 5 - All action but gave the ball away far too regularly.
Hendrick 6 - Additional mark for the great run for the goal - a part of his game which he has stopped using recently. Otherwise struggled to impose himself.
Defour 5 - Some nice forward passes but clearly not comfortable playing on the left, some very poor set pieces also.
Gray 6 - His touch let him down at times but he caused them issues with his running behind.
Vokes 4 - His lack of mobility and movement causes us a lot of problems at this level I'm afraid, given the way we play. Didn't win much either.

Brady 6 - Some nice touches and link up play, but he does still seem to be struggling a little with the shape of our side and on a couple of occasions he completely put himself out of the game trying to snatch balls he was never going to get.

Very poor game and one of our worst performances of the season, but we got the 3 points which wash ugely important and takes some of the pressure off. We lacked composure on the ball, our pressing game wasn't as intense as usual and we played without any tempo or confidence. Hopefully this win reinstalls some of that confidence and we see an improved performance at M'Boro on Saturday.

Seriously big win last night and it was much needed. It was always going to be a poor game to watch, with us being a bit low on confidence and Stoke being Stoke, but we managed to find a way to win.

Lets put the away record to bed on Saturday now.

Heaton 7-Reliable as ever, good handling and dare I say distribution.
Lowton 7- Played well but didn't get forward enough.
Keane 8- Excellent.
Mee 9*-Really is an unsung hero.
Ward 7-Getting very consistent, thought early booking restricted him slightly.
Boyd 7- Had a good game and looked fitter to me than he has for a while.
Barton 8-I know he misplaced a few passes but he never shirked responsibility. Thought he was very good.
Hendrick 7-I just wish he'd do more offensively as what he did for the goal. Was it first assist of season?
Defour 6-obviously not fully fit, some nice touches.
Vokes 6-Sam worked his socks off but there was a shortage of quality in the final third.
Gray 5-I may get slaughtered but I'm far from convinced.

Brady 6-I've been critical of the lad but he showed signs of improvement last night when he came on.

I know Barnes wasn't on long enough but for me he certainly made an impact and nuisance of himself. Very brave, puts his head where others wouldn't put their boot.

Someone says "Boyd lacks a yard of pace to be honest"

If I had run 12.45km (I couldn't), was back an every defensive move, got down the wing on more than one occasion, got some tackles in in midfield and then was the man, free in the box to volley home the winner, I might lack a yard of pace, too!

(he does lack pace but has many other attributes, as the poster also states)

Gray probably covered a third of the distance and he lacked at least a yard of pace! (Suddenly changed his game to 'big strong man holding up play')

If there was a score for the seasons cameo, I'd give Barnsey a 10, a classic 8 minutes or so. See you all at Boro, let's put em down.

I thought we were lucky to go in at halftime 0-0, as we were being over-run in midfield and wasteful of any half-chances that came our way upfront; only poor finishing from Stoke and one particularly fine save from Heaton saved us. Second half started the same, and then came the substitutions and we never looked back; cracking goal from Boyd following on from a superb run by Hendrick. When he came on Barnes was brilliant at dealing with the Stoke centre backs in a way that Gray wasn’t able to.
