Cinema Releases 2017

Post by FactualFrank » Sun Apr 09, 2017 10:21 pm

Are there any films coming out this year that you're looking forward to? I've got 2:

Stephen King's 'IT' - I loved the original and although the ending was a bit pants, I think the overall story was brilliant. There's a re-release in September. If you don't like clowns, you won't like it :-D

Creed 2: What can I say. Rocky movies are superb. I'd love a Rocky marathon - alcohol on tap and watch all 7 in a go. I'll definitely be watching it.

What do you think of the above 2 and any films coming out this year, you're looking forward to watching?

There's not a whole lot I'm really looking forward too.

Dunkirk, I know someone involved in post production and say's it's good.
On Stephen King the Dark Tower is also out this year and will be interested in seeing what's done with that.

Bladerunner 2049
God Particle (JJ Abrams produced Cloverfield film, Cloverfield Lane was great)
Star Wars (looking forward to but like Superheros I'm already a bit fatigued, there will be one a year until I die)

I'm a big fan of Stephen King, so will go and watch Dark Tower.
And Star Wars is another great call.

So that's 4 movies so far I'll be going to see.

I enjoyed the first 2. It wouldn't be good if everyone was the same.

Very true gandhi. The sign of maturity is when you accept other people have different tastes to your own.

I fancy another horror movie.... you don't get scarier than the Jason movies. But I don't like it when they walk into a dark house and shout, "Is there anybody there!?" - like Jason is going to reply with, "Yeah I'm in the kitchen, fancy a sandwich?"

This is true, but jump-scare movies are still children's films.

I knew the original story to the 2nd film so just took it for what it was. A film based on true events that's glorified for entertainment purposes. I thought it was decent and certainly didn't feel jumpy to me.

Not being serious as everyone has their own tastes and thing's they enjoy.

As a genre though I find horror to be very lazy, but in the industry it is one of the best risk/reward bets, 'Get Out' being the latest example of a win.

Blade Runner is a really strong IP to work with. If 2049 is even half as good as Denis Villeneuve's last film Arrival, it'll be one of the best films of the year.

Really looking forward to 2049 however Ridley Scott annoys me slightly as he buys up so many Sci-Fi properties but sits on them while making endless sequels.

'The Forever War', widely regarded as a SciFi literature classic was bought by Scott years ago but nothing came of it. Instead we got Prometheus and soon Covenant which looks exactly the same as Prometheus and other Alien films.

Star wars
Aliens
Blade Runner
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Fast & Furious (can't remember which number it is now)
Dunkirk

I'll then just trundle along and watch other random stuff to fill in my time whilst waiting for this stuff.

Depends what types of Film you are interested in:

The biggest films of the year will most likely be the superhero films.

Wonder Woman, Thor Ragnorok, Guardians of the galaxy 2, Justice League, Spider Man,

But I imagine the highest grossing film will be Star Wars later in the year.

They have been the last two years running, much to the disappointment of the fanboys of Marvel etc.

They just didn't realise the power of the Dark Side and the Force, but they've had it all their own way for a while, it was about time someone came along and burst their bubbles.

I was expecting IT to be rubbish but the new trailer is excellent.
In the last version the only thing they got right was the clown, the rest of it was utter crap and it was still memorable.

I agree, Marvel films have been pretty terrible really, apart from the first Avengers, first Iron Man and maybe Guardians of the Galaxy they've been fairly under par considering there have been so many. Would anyone ever watch Thor 2 or Iron Man 2 again I wonder? Even the fanboys.

One thing to bear in mind though when pointing this out is both Marvel and Star Wars are both owned by Disney anyway and as they learned with Spiderman people will still go to see them even if they are awful.

Suppose we just need to wait for an awful Star Wars film from this new batch.

They've got the right idea so far, main story films every other year with a side story in between.
Han Solo film out next year I think.
