Who was that annoying twohat back in the 80's who commented on Rovers games but occasionally on Burnley games. Always condescending!?

BLACKBURN ROVERS

Lancashire Telegraph:

Position: 22

Points: 40

Remaining fixtures: Nottingham Forest (A), Bristol City (H), Wolves (A), Aston Villa (H), Brentford (A)

CHANCES OF SURVIVAL: Tony Mowbray admits Rovers are in a ‘difficult position’ after the defeat to Barnsley and results elsewhere last weekend. It saw Rovers slip to four points from safety with just five games to play, moving in to what appears to be a make-or-break Easter period. Anything less than four points for Rovers in their two games could well spell an end to their hopes of avoiding the drop, which may well require winning three of their remaining five games. Rovers have won just twice on their travels all season, a tally they may well need to match with three away games still to play.

The defeat to Barnsley was by far the worst display since Mowbray took charge, but if Rovers can revert to the performances shown against Derby and Wigan then there is still hope.

Easter fixtures against two of their relegation rivals as the head coach put it, offers some glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Rovers may well need a favour or two from elsewhere along the way but there is enough firepower in the squad to finish with a flourish.

I always thought it was Jack Holden (I think that was his name) who was the reporter on Radio Lancs.

He was but was unsure if he covered us as well which made me say Dinnis as he did over the years.

Yes, thinking back, he only covered Rover matches.

The other one I think who did both was David Jones.

Lose the next 2, and they could be relegated Easter Monday.

It was Jack Holden. He covered an early season home game of ours late 80s and the studio guy asked him the gate. Wasn't announced replies Jack but i guess around 4k. He may have then been prodded awake, told the gate was announced and it was 7k. As you say, Rovers biased and patronising to us. I remember him nearly in tears when they lost in the play offs to Palace.

I can remember that game as well and being gobsmacked by his estimate of the gate. In those days all we had to boast about were our gates. It was bad enough having Jack Holden reporting on us in the first place I seem to recall according to him we fluked two goals to win in a game we absolutely dominated. Too soon to really gloat at Rover's demise but all boy in a couple of weeks time the remaining Clitheroe Rovers won't know what hits them if they drop and we remain in the premier league!

Looking at the sides at the bottom in terms of points, remaining fixtures and form:

Forest 45 pts, 3 home, 2 away, 21st in form table - 5 pts from 18 - same form 50 pts
Burton 45 pts, 3 home, 2 away 16th in form table - 8 pts from 18 - same form 53 pts
Bristol City 44 pts, 3 home, 2 away, 7th in form table - 10 pts from 18 - same form 54 pts
Blackburn 40 pts, 2 home, 3 away, 23rd in form table - 3 pts from 18 - same form 43 pts
Wigan 3 home, 37 pts 2 away, 18th in form table - 6 pts from 18 - same form 43 pts

It's not looking good for either Wigan or Blackburn. With all the other teams having an extra home game Blackburn are at a disadvantage and they'll need promotion form to stand any chance of getting to Stan's famous 50 point safety target. Wigan probably need five wins.

Remember Jack Holden talking on Radio Lancs in a preview to a game at Ewood in the late 80's, he was looking out of the window of the stand onto Nuttall Street and said he hadn't seen it this busy in years and was expecting a massive crowd.

The attendance was announced as just over 12,000.

Yes. Jack Holden. Appreciate the other input btw. Definitely Jack. Never, ever had a nice word to say about us.

Also for Bristol City, their recent home form is pretty impressive, especially the battering of Huddersfield.
With 3/5 at home, they may even be able to afford to lose their game away to Rovers.

And Bristol's goal difference is EIGHT better than Rovers, so if they finish level,
thats like an extra point for BC.

The thing about Jack Holden was. He'd wax lyrical about an empty tampax box and spin it to be pro Rovers. I used to royally get p*ssed off when he went on the Burnley games. Guy Havord (still going) was another.

Radio Lancashire (ahem radio Blackburn) was absolutely appallingly biased in the 80's and 90's. They really were a smug bunch of condescending cnuts.

But it's just about to be the biggest pay back EVER when t'roverrrrs are shat back from whence they came.

Crack open a bottle of something expensive and savour the moment. It was worth the wait.

Holden never used to give you the score until the end of his report. I remember several times listening to him rabbit on about how well Rovers were playing, the chances they'd missed, etc. Then he'd end with 'so the score here at Ewood, Rovers 0 Barnsley 1'.

I couldn't stand Richard '****ing' Dinnis.

He was caretaker manager at Newcastle for about 3 days in a pre-season in the 80's and referenced it 85 times in any match commentary as did Hickson.

'Richard, you've managed Newcastle, should Burnley be taking off Robbie Painter'

'Richard you've managed Newcastle, is the pitch playable following this overnight rain'

Hickson was vomit inducing at the best of times, he was just a complete arse licker.

And you're right with his Richard this, Richard that questions. But has the familiarity grew and the love In blossomed Hickson started referring to him as the ' Dinster', That was it for me never listened to Radio Lancs sport ever again.

Jack Holden clearly didn't like us and never denied it. Should never have been sent to Turf Moor by the station in all fairness.
