Agree shame. I would like to see us win against the best players. That said three points is more important.

Bollix to Zlatan.
I want to see us win. If he's out, that gives us a better chance of that.

Strange comment, but if 84 is your year of birth it might explain it.
Possibly splits opinion on the matter, if you
1. Think he is a great player, then why would you want a great player playing against us which decreases our chances of winning?
2. Don't care/meh about him, so are not bothered if he is injured or not.
( Just for the record, I think Crouch is slightly bigger, so already seen the biggest player in the league play ont Turf )

Mixed feelings on this as like others have said I wanted to see him play but certainly improves our chances without him.
Re: Zlatan out
I don't know who goes on a game at Turf Moor to watch opposition players. I go on to watch us. Couldn't care less who rocks up as long as we perform. Though I'd rather players who could affect the result in a negative way for us are unavailable.

The way he played last night, I'd rather have faced him. Pretty sure all his shots were closer to the corner flags than the goals.

Everyone goes to see Burnley win and I certainly feel cheesed off when we don't do well.

Re: Zlatan out
Seeing how he played last night I too am sorry he won't be miscontrolling through balls and scuffing shots on Sunday.
Re: Zlatan out
Two injuries and extra time shouldn't do our chances any harm. Not forgetting that the rest of the players have only two recovery days before playing us.
We're averaging nearly 5000 more fans this season than last so you have to think that a large number of those are there to see us play against the big boys and tick off the star names, that's what being in this league is all about, playing against the best, the team going toe to toe with some of the best players in the world and trying to find a way to win.

Re: Zlatan out
I for one am devastated. I've followed his career for roughly 15 years and the chance to see him not only in the flesh, but at the Turf was one of the things I was most looking forward to this season.
Mercurial brilliance and unparalleled arrogance, backed up by the fact he's won pretty much everything at some of the biggest clubs in the world, and carried his country way above their level in internationals. Truly a once in a generation character and player.
As for Sunday, we'll do 'em!

Yes he's one of those players that we all want to see grace the Turf, although I still think the current form of Rashford and Lingard are more of a problem.

Re: Zlatan out
Torn, really looking forward to seeing him play but on the other hand, the more injuries United have, the better for us
Re: Zlatan out
I'm not bothered about seeing him either.
But what does bother me is how well United did against Chelsea without him and with young fast runners.
Zlatan at United reminds me of Charlie Austin for us. Everything went through him and he was great, but as soon as he went, more players blossomed and we became a promotion team.
I suppose Zlatan's a world class talent though so he could have scored a couple...

I saw Neil Ruddock play us once at Palace - he was massive. And he continued to grow after retirement - I saw him some time ago in my local Waitrose. He'd definitely been at the pies again.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote:I saw Steve Foster at the Turf once. Now he was big!

I also think all the hard work they put into beating Anderlecht last night over 120 minutes will help us.

Re: Zlatan out
This Season has never been about seeing the Great Players of the Big Teams for me(the last two times we were up here weren't either), it's been about seeing Burnley FC survive in the Top Division for more than a season.
Anything that aids that desire is great for me.
I'm glad the ugly bugger ain't playing.

I'm not sure you're right. If this is the case then why do we get much higher attendances in the PL?. I'm sure it's because supporters are more enthusiastic about watching the world's top players than the rather less glamorous names in the lower divisions.ThinLizzy wrote:I don't know who goes on a game at Turf Moor to watch opposition players.
Having said that though, it does help us if top players are out through injury or suspension. It's a bit of a conundrum.
For the record, (on this occasion) I think Rashford and Lingard are a far more serious threat to us than Zlatan because of their flair and pace.

Re: Zlatan out
Nothing at all wrong with wanting to see him play. People who saying they dont understand are looking at it too black and white or being purposely obtuse.
I want us to win. I want us to hammer them. But I want us to do it against the best players.
I want to see Ben Mee marshalling one of the greatest players ever.
I want to see Michael Keane doninate his fellow young England international.
I want the euophoria of beating a liverpool side littered with internationals again. Or holding a formidable chelsea side.
Just a shame Schweinsteiger wont be playing either for me.
Cant stand Man U. But having watched Burnley from the bottom of division four, its far more exciting to watch us compete with top clubs and in zlatan one of the greatest players of all time than it is Maidstone and Rochdale.

Ben Mee will be a relieved man.
Relieved that he now won't have to wear big shorts with massive pockets in them.

Re: Zlatan out
its a shame he won't be playing as united are potentially more dangerous to us without him.
he's one of the all-time greats but he slows their play down drastically and his omission from the team was key to them beating chelsea.

If we win/draw the Utd game, the headlines still won't be about us. It will be because of the injuries they suffered and the effects extra time took out the team, playing so soon after the Anderlecht game.
Re: Zlatan out
I'd agree with Rashford being a threat. Ibrahimovic has that ability to create something from nothing.nil_desperandum wrote:I'm not sure you're right. I guess my point was. Of course attendances are bigger because the prize is much bigger, this season remaining in the Premier League. I've never personally gone on a game wanting to see an opposition player or some 'star', but then I don't do 'celebrity'.
I guess, there was that buzz of a cup game and the possibility of beating a higher division team, a scalp if you like back in the day. But I just have attended at all levels, even some bloody pointless games in the scheme of things, just to watch us. I've never specifically gone on a game because 'such and such' was playing. I do admit to applauding some masterclasses from opposition players mind you.

i'd wager everyone on here goes on burnley games first and foremost to watch burnley. its a bonus that were also seeing some of the best players in the world and there's no doubt it adds to the gate somewhat.
i'm don't think its about 'celebrity', i just like watching really good footballers. and its even better when we beat them.

Re: Zlatan out
Can see where Quoon's coming from - United become a more fluid threat at times without Zlatan, although weirdly we've tended to struggle more with physical strikers like Llorente, Rondon and Janssen this season than pacey attackers, and we've tended to look most vulnerable when defending against teams who have a focal point to cross the ball into (I'm sure this was one reason Spurs played Trippier at Burnley with Janssen). I'd not be surprised to see Fellaini deployed off Rashford on Sunday for this reason.

yep, we're good at sitting deep and nullifying pace - that's how we beat liverpool. would definitely go along with expecting fellaini to be pushed forward.claretspice wrote:Can see where Quoon's coming from - United become a more fluid threat at times without Zlatan, although weirdly we've tended to struggle more with physical strikers like Llorente, Rondon and Janssen this season than pacey attackers, and we've tended to look most vulnerable when defending against teams who have a focal point to cross the ball into (I'm sure this was one reason Spurs played Trippier at Burnley with Janssen). Apart from the fact we sit fairly deep, I think it also helps us that both our centre backs have experience of playing at full back, and therefore (assisted by Keane's pace) are pretty good in 1 v 1 situations.

Rashford looked electric last night, sitting deep will be essential again on Sunday.
Shame for Zlatan but I saw him in the away game, his touch was amazing. Glad he's out.

I'm not sure that's strictly true. Liverpool had very little genuine pace that day as Mane was injured. Yes we sat deep and nullified them, but we nullified their passing and off the ball movement and reduced them to speculative long rangers.quoonbeatz wrote:yep, we're good at sitting deep and nullifying pace - that's how we beat liverpool. would definitely go along with expecting fellaini to be pushed forward.

It's a double edged sword for me. I think he's a top quality player and it's 1 less top quality player for us to face and, for me, improves our chances of getting a result.......but I targeted this game pre season for my son to be the mascot as he is a big fan of Ibra and for that I am genuinely devastated for my lad to miss out on meeting one of his idols because of what happened in the final second of the 90 minutes last night.

Well if that sh!te from Disney perform like they did last night, I would be very disappointed if we don't win. All these saying that they are more interested in who turns up than the result are more than likely Premier league glory hunters, who only watch the clarets in the premier league. They can do one for me and get back to Disney or Anfleld from where they cometh
