Dwight Yorke
Advocating that all black players come out on strike because of the lack of
opportunities afforded for black managers.
Not this again, for crying out loud.

I read that this morning and thought exactly the same. I say read, I skimmed the article and I don't think it mentioned as to whether he'd completed the necessary FIFA / FA licences?Funkydrummer wrote:Advocating that all black players come out on strike because of the lack of

Telling quote from the article too :-
"Yorke, 45, said he knew of black former players who would not do coaching badges as they felt they had little chance of getting a coaching role."

Don't forget the next couple of lines Funkydrummer!
Yorke, 45, said he knew of black former players who would not do coaching badges as they felt they had little chance of getting a coaching role.
"If it's not because of the colour of our skin then tell me what it is?" the former Trinidad and Tobago player said.
"I'm speaking out about it. Be fair. At least give us an interview."
I'm no rocket scientist but I suspect these former black players who've been denied interviews have probably been denied them because they've done no coaching badges?! I'd get his argument if he said "I've done all my coaching badges but can't get an interview". That would be clear discrimination, but this is a desperate attempt to bring this topic back into the limelight. I'm not saying he's a liar but guys like Dwight Yorke, Sol Campbell and Jason Roberts need to bring real life examples to the table if they're going to make anyone take them seriously!!

Re: Dwight Yorke
Its these sorts of unfounded comments that really do not help their cause. He could of course be recounting conversations with ex-players from 20 years ago. Comments less relevant today, as despite what he thinks society has advanced in the last 20 years.Funkydrummer wrote:I thought exactly the same thing - perhaps he's not got any qualifications.

Dwight Yorke really does need to wind his neck in on this, fed up of hearing about it.

Re: Dwight Yorke
Yorke needs to look at someone like Henry, who's just quietly gone about getting his qualifications and got himself a job with Belgium.
No fuss, or histrionics, he just did it.
Yorke meanwhile is bleating again, but there's never been any mention of him getting his badges, which are more important now then they were in the past, even in lower leagues.

Re: Dwight Yorke
Black people like him cause trouble. What would happen if a retired white player called for all white players to strike due to the disproportionate number of white players in the Premier league compared to the UK population ?.

People don't avoid signing players because they are black. If they are good enough they are good enough whatever their origins. It didn't stop Paul Pogba becoming the most expensive player. The same applies to managers. You could make a case for young English managers not being given opportunities because of the demand for instant success.

Re: Dwight Yorke
It's a clear case of racism; it's only because they are black they are being made to do coaching badges before getting a coaching job. Just think, he could be a future England manager so it's a pity he's so stupid.

Yes, doesn't Yorke refuse to accept Harvey as his son? Or something along those lines.

That's correct he foesn't accept him, or have anything to do with him.ThinLizzy wrote:I need to correct myself with the missus. I said that Harvey was Ashley Cole's son. I get all confused. These footballers sleep around so much.

Not 100% sure if accurate as it's only what his mum said. But apparently it was because he was born disabled and he couldn't/didn't want to bring him up.
( like I said not sure how true that is )
But still, he's still a tw@ for shirking his responsibility! IMO of course.

Re: Dwight Yorke
This pops up quite a bit, a popular topic for casual racists and righteous preachy types alike.
Last time round, I learned that the number of black coaches and managers involved in football almost exactly mirrors the percentage of black people in the UK today.
The number isn't equivalent to the number of black players in the game, or even close, but it's an entirely different skill set, so I don't see a reason why it has to be. I don't know how many black tea ladies there are at football clubs, or coach drivers. Neither does Dwight, but he's not after those football related jobs so he gives about as much of a s**t as anyone else.

Re: Dwight Yorke
Maybe the real reason he doesn't get interviews (aside from the lack of qualifications) is that people have heard his attempts at punditry and come to the natural conclusion that he lacks the eloquence or the tactical nous to be a remotely effective manager.
Re: Dwight Yorke
How ironic Ugo Ehiogu has passed away today. An ex-player who completed his coaching badges and got the job as U-23 coach at Spurs. Imagine that, a black man completed the required courses to get a job and got it. I thought Dwight said this sort of thing didn't happen? I hate using it as an example because his passing is extremely sad, but it does undermine Dwight Yorke's comments a little does it not?!

I personally wasn't even aware Ehiogu was a coach until today, probably because he just got on with it and didn't feel the need to make a fuss.
Clearly shows the difference between the 2 of them.

If the allegations about not seeing his son are true he is a disgrace. Maybe interviewers are looking for men who are made of sterner stuff who players will respect.

Sadly, he discredits too many black people. There will be some and it might be a small number, who will be fine at the job, eg the Chris's, Houghton and Powell, who don't whinge about it, whereas the serial failures like Ince and Barnes goon and on about it.

I wonder if there are any stats out there with regards to the number of black players who actually do take the coaching badges compared to that of white players. This would surely then be a better judge of whether there is any disparity with the number of black managers in the game?

Re: Dwight Yorke
My memory is a little hazy, but weren't there some white English managers/head coaches who had to complete their coaching badges to allow them to do their job in the PL a number of years ago?
I'm thinking Southgate when he was at Boro, but I could be wrong.
If that's the case, it's not like former players haven't been aware of that.
Yorke could well be right, but if they aren't bothering with the qualifications why does he think anyone deserves an interview, whether they're black or white?

I found this 2014 Football Focus clip in my search for Dion Dublin's take on this issue because I thought he was the guy who was talking sense when DY first started spouting off.
I'm sure there was a former black player who was basically telling DY to 'shut up and get on with it'
May have been Ehiogu.
Edit: same as the OP
