Those who were confident when we were 10 points in front

Post by ClaretAndJew » Sun Apr 23, 2017 4:09 pm

Genuine question. How do you feel now? Still confident we're going to stay up? Despot overwhelming evidence to the contrary - I.E our form and the form of a few below us.

Yep.

What overwhelming evidence? Swansea's four points in seven games?

Just because we are conceeding sloppy goals at an alarming rate and look like a side incapable of creating a semi decent chance doesn't mean we're doomed.

2 draws or 1 win probably does it and with 2 home games left it isnt impossable.

A backs to the wall defensive display or a slice of good fortune can't not go our way in the next few games.

It would still even now take a huge points swing for us to go down. We could lose every game and stay up.

Hull and Swansea will be chasing each other. What are the odds on both of them and Palace getting 37 points AND us failing to get a point in our last 4 games?

Same isn't it? And with being 5 points in front it gives us a big advantage.

Still confident but we are struggling to score at the moment.

I was never confident we were clear of it and to be quite honest the lack of belief there seemed to be today was concerning for the run in, but I think we've just got to back the team to do what is needed. Think the message needs to be we got ourselves this chance of staying up don't blow it after all your hard work, give it everything and we're backing you. I'd still have been pleasantly surprised at the start of the season to see us here now. We should not expect to beat Manure, but we should expect to rattle them... and that's worrying too.

But I'm still not convinced by the doom and gloom merchants either. Even if we go into the last day with it in our own hands we've done fantastically well this season.

Yes I'm still confident.

I think it will be very close, but we will do it.
Hull and Swansea have tough games remaining don't they?
Boro are gone now I think, will be confirmed when they fail to win their game in hand.
Sunderland are also gone.

Hopefully Palace lose today, but sods law means they won't.

Sunderland and Boro I think are gone. Swansea 5 points behind, but 2 winnable games remaining away to Sunderland and at home to WBA.

Just looking at the away run & home fixtures back then I fully expected us to be around where we are now so not bothered.

Aside from Swansea when we went into stoppage time at 2-2 all of our recent results have been pretty much predictable. Poor performance today but that was mainly down to how United effectively killed the game.

The best chance of points is in the final two home games. That's just the way the fixtures fall. Five points clear with four games to go - I don't think many people would have said no to that back in August.

I think they might around Christmas. We should not even be flirting with relegation now. SD has at present lost the plot.

I'm fully confident that we'll scrape survival but teams that end the season in relegation form normally continue it next season. Big summer for Dyche.

I think lost the plot is more than a little strong. I think the back team need to work on plans A and C in the close season. I would have our current style as definite plan B, as I think next season we will be found out big time unless we change things - the top clubs have got our measure the rest will follow.

I think we will stay up but anyone who thinks we are safe and not in the relegation battle is fooling themselves, were still in a good position but we are in the relegation fight now.

"I think they might around Christmas. We should not even be flirting with relegation now. SD has at present lost the plot."

Second half of the season is always difficult for newly promoted clubs who don't have the squad depth/quality to change their style of play. We over achieved up until Christmas and that has led to raised expectations.

Hull and Swansea might have some momentum after yesterday but we've been better over the season so far. Today was a wake-up call but provided we get back to what we are good at we can take the necessary points from our last two home games.

Almost inevitable when you don't do squad rotation. In my honest opinion this is SD's achilles heel.

I'm very confident we'll stay up. Some of you need to calm the **** down.

The only points Hull will pick up is against Sunderland. And even if they win, and we lose all out games, they'll still be beliw us on GD.

Swansea's next two games are against Manu and Everton, both defeats. GD means we only need 1 more point to stay above them if they win their last two games.

Both Hull and Swansea would have to exceed these expectations to even have a chance of us being relegated, so stop being a bunch of pussies.

wrong, and if you think we are safe, Hull , Swansea both won, Palace won away at Liverpool, we were beaten , and we face Palace away next.
Having not won away all season, and having slipped down the table with 4 games left, its hardly a good place to be.

I thought we lacked confidence and bite today. Mourhino set up well. Most of the team seem like they can't wait to get rid of the ball too. We'll see what happens but goodness we need to start scoring again.

I'd go along with this. Pretty sure we'll be fine, although it can never be guaranteed.

We had a 10 point lead I think with 9 or 10 games to go. We've played just over half the remaining games since then, and we still have half the lead - and even if the lead gets cut to zero, our goal difference is a little insurance policy. So yes, its tighter than we'd all like it to be, but even as we are the cushion we built up just about looks like being enough. Two draws and Swansea need to win 3 from 4.

In our last 4 games, we've taken 4 points. That'd be plenty.

5 points more - and goal difference. Meaning we're effectively 6 points clear of a relegation place with 4 games left. It'd be remarkable if we were to be relegated.

Nope, 5 points more, and to clarify, are you talking about the Swansea who have only won once in the last 7 games as one of the teams who don't look jaded?

if we lose to palace, and the swans win, its a slim margin to be facing the remaining games. I obviously hope we'll do it, but fail to see why so many are still confident. we are playing quite bad to be honest.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream- -and not make dreams your master;
If you can think- -and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on! '

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings- -nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And- -which is more- -you'll be a Man, my son!

We're not actually playing that badly - we've just had a very difficult run of games. The results have been pretty much in line with realistic expectations. It gets a bit easier from here...

Is Rudyard coming on from the bench Paul?
fine words indeed, I have wilted recently in my belief we'll make it to safety I must admit.
You hear all the pundits saying Burnley are okay, then picking their three for the drop, we are hardly ever mentioned.
But when you look at how things are shaping up ! difficult to remain positive. It looks a bit of a rocky road to say the least.

The run-in always was going to have twists and turns, we've done the twists but now it's our turn. Don't sweat, we'll scrape home.
