Agyei
Was quite impressed by Agyei today. As much as you can be against a team like United. He offered a lot more than Barnes. The one moment that impressed me in particular was when he managed to create a yard of space for himself to get a shot away (probably our only shot from open play all game).
Could he start a league game this season?

Re: Agyei
he should do, looks to have quite a liking for going directly at them, two quick feet.
I dont think he was raw at all as some say, given a bit more time on the pitch he will score. I thought he was good.

Re: Agyei
His touch seemed to be a lot better than Gray and Barnes today. Gray and Agyei could cause a dangerous attacking force
Re: Agyei
He's getting game time in the PL. His record, and what little I've seen, suggests he would be very lucky to be getting that elsewhere. I hope he continues to develop but the "interest" from other clubs smacks of an overactive agent to me.

Re: Agyei
Get real. He was involved in about 3 passages of play. In 2 of those he slipped and gave away possession, in the other he did well to get a snap-shot away. He was fine, nothing more, nothing less. Certainly didn't do anything to suggest that he should be above our other strikers in the pecking order, until we're definitely safe at least.

Suspect his rough edges might be smoothed on loan elsewhere next season.

Re: Agyei
he didnt look raw, he was on about five minutes, the regular strikers rarely get a sniff thesedays, i certainly think with his age and strength, he'd be more effective than Barnes or vokes. he slipped because some clown decided to put the sprinklers on at half time.
You could argue the toss all day about whether he would be better or not.
Easiest thing in the world to find faults, I could say same for our regulars missing sitters and they have had hours of first team football , and they too fall over occasionally.

Re: Agyei
Not enough today to be making any serious judgments, let's get real. But looked ok and MUST be worth giving some game time to IF we ever get safe and we've little to play for. He won at least one (meaningful) header today and nobody else did that bar Keane and Mee.
Re: Agyei
Heaton had a right go at him at one point when he was looking to take the quick goal kick and Agyei was just stood around aimlessly.
He looks to have something but I'd not be starting him until he's got some games under his belt at Championship level next season just to get that big game experience.

I honestly don't understand why people are so hesitant in giving the lad game time. The other strikers offer little to nothing most games. Why not just give him a chance.

Re: Agyei
Played well and put himself about a bit, how many other players beat Fellaini to a header today? And on the Coventry point he was playing with terrible players in a terrible team. He will be the next Gray when he moves on
Re: Agyei
He had one moment.
He cocked up a couple of times and lacked control.
Glad he had a chance. No doubt another will follow. Let's not get carried away. I remember Ray Hankin at 18 and went 'wow!'. I will await that same thought with Agyei. If it happens.

The best bit was absolutely dominating Fellaini in the air.
Not enough seen today to suggest he should start. But he needs to feature more and more and then go on loan next year.

Re: Agyei
What a weird thread.
From folk wanting him to start, to folk not wanting him to start (even though they 'like' the posts wanting him to start) because they haven't seen enough of him, to mentioning a player from the 1970's as a guide.
Leave the f***ing lad alone and let him get on with it. If he's good enough, he'll be good enough.

Re: Agyei
Rodriguez played 35 times and scored 5 goals in our promotion season under Coyle, he then had a bad injury and missed most of the following season but ended up on loan at Barnsley for six games scoring once. His big break was when Laws decided to give him a chance by not signing a big money striker. At that point he'd already played a lot of championship games.tim_noone wrote:Rodriguez didnt fair much better at stirling 3goals in 11 games he didnt do to bad in the long term though.give young uns a chance.
I'd tend to agree that a loan in the Championship would do Agyei good but he needs to prove to people that he's worth it for one of those teams to want to take him and that's not going to be easy. I was surprised that a League One was prepared to give him a run in the first team to be honest. If SD decides that he's not quite ready for us then I'd not be surprised to see him playing in League One again next season.

Started two league games and scored two league goals in that season and was totally ignored at the start of the following Premier League season, not even getting on the bench.dibraidio wrote:Rodriguez played 35 times and scored 5 goals in our promotion season under Coyle
In the following season, 2010/11, he came off the bench at Crystal Palace in a 0-0 draw and looked outstanding. He kept his place for the next two seasons.
Well, no he hadn't. He'd started two and had over 20 sub appearances but most of them coming on in the last few minutes.dibraidio wrote:At that point he'd already played a lot of championship games.

Another dig at Coyle? Surprised you didn't throw a dig at Howe and Laws in there yet when I dig at Dyche its a different ball game.ClaretTony wrote:Started two league games and scored two league goals in that season and was totally ignored at the start of the following Premier League season, not even getting on the bench.

Looked very raw to me, but there was certainly something about him.
I mean it must be dead easy coming on in the Prem against one of the giants of the modern game.
Top level league 1 side/Scottish premier league or bottom end championship side would do nicely next year to aid his development. He just needs games and refined.

Several references already on this thread to goals scored by players for a struggling Coventry side. Marvin Sordell scored 7 times whilst at Coventry (4 League, 2 FA Cup, 1 JPT). He appeared in 18 league games.

Re: Agyei
From what I read of his time at Coventry - he started well, had a dip and then finished well. Came back and I think we were trying to get him out on loan again but nothing materialised. I've seen him play well and not so well in the dev squad, highlighted by his two performances in the Premier League Cup against Blackburn and Sunderland recently. I think some have said he's raw but the manager and coaching staff must have seen something in him to get him on the bench and give him a few minutes. I'd think we will try to get him out on loan again next season, hopefully somewhere better than Coventry.kentonclaret wrote:Several references already on this thread to goals scored by players for a struggling Coventry side. Yes somewhere like Preston would be nice. A good local club that have a reputation for blooding young players.
As for pronunciation - I work with someone with the same last name, will ask him . I am sure he pronounced it Ag-Yay when he introduced himself.

Agreed CT it would be good to see him get regular game time in a side not struggling and in turmoil as Coventry were for most of this season, and last. Also, at a level higher than League 1.

Re: Agyei
He's certainly got something about him. There were a couple of moments yesterday when his presence was really impressive and it got him time around the edge of the box to get a shot away that others wouldn't have had.
I'm not too sure he's the sort of lad who needs another loan spell as it happens. He's clearly well-developed physically for his age, so he'll not need too much more "toughening up". What he clearly needs is to learn a bit more game sense - he was a bit raw in his decision making a couple of times yesterday - but to some extent he's as well learning that here and being an asset to us as out on loan. He's already commented that he's learnt lots from training against our centre backs and that, plus the learning he'll get from being in and out of the first team, are arguably worth the same as plenty of game time against inferior players.
He turns 20 this summer, so he's old enough to be making an impact on the first team, and if he's got the raw physical gifts I'm not sure I see a reason why he should automatically go out on loan. Its certainly fair to say that other teams have given a go to players of a similar age and athleticism without sending them out on loan.

Why are some fans quick to knock positive comments .Dan did enough to a least get a subs spot v Palace .
Loaning him out to me is a backward step .We need to develop him with our other first team squad.
Everton are quick to promote rising stars .Why do we have to want to push players out on loan ?
