fundamental flaw

Post by minnieclaret » Mon Apr 24, 2017 7:42 am

We pass the ball to slowly for this level.
Time and again yesterday we would pass a ball out wide, to a player in acres of space, and by the time it got to him they were on us.
I appreciate top players have pace but we are still passing at Championship level speed.
As we have nobody who can drop a shoulder and get goal side we create our chances by passing. It has to be much sharper. Sadly it's too late to find it now so we'll stick with what we know. UTC.

Our attacking play earlier in the season was far more effective than it has been over the last three months. I don't think that's in dispute. It's born out in the stats, particularly at home.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the deterioration has coincided with the prolonged absences of Defour & Gudmundsson. Although in fairness, injury has been the main factor in keeping both away from the starting XI.

They did seem to ping it around at times but better players and more technically gifted players will do that. Whilst the result was disappointing, losing 2-0 to a team unbeaten for ages and with the calibre of players in their squad wasn't unexpected and no disgrace. I guess everyone at the club is still learning about player premier league football and hopefully over the summer, improvements will be made.

I think we've missed Marneys driving force more than Defour and JBG.

If you only play 4 players in midfield, you will come unstuck unless they complement each other perfectly.

Equally, if you are going to play 2 up front they need to be working well together and not stranded.
