Ashley Westwood

Post by Mala591 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 1:16 pm

Had an excellent home game against Chelsea then a good game in the away draw at Hull. Was then dropped as Hendrick came back after suspension.

He must be a bit 'disappointed' that he hasn't been given another chance.

I certainly would be.

I thought he was pretty rubbish in both games, I put it down to a settling in period. Hendrick has been our best midfield player, he's always going to start when available.

I would hope the least every single BFC player feels is "disappointed" not to be in the team regardless

Must admit to thinking he was anonymous in the Chelsea game and didn`t get all the gushing praise he received. Thought he was a lot better against Hull.

I seem to remember that Chelsea had only 2 shots on target and Burnley had 4.

Please correct me if I have my stats wrong.

Westwood had a good game against Chelsea when the job was to sit deep and deny space in front of the centre halves , but against Hull he and Barton were a bit samey and didn't really give us the intensity we needed - they both hung back rather than pressing up on the front foot. Hes really an alternative to Barton rather than a compliment.

Hes not the first player to come to burnley and find himself enduring a bedding in period and im sure his time will come - he's a decent player and probably an underrated leader giveb how young he was when he became Crewe captain.

Think he is Bartons replacement. Could be OK with a run of games and some confidence. His time will come.

meh is certainly an appropriate word to use to describe the little we have seen of him so far. Largely anonymous could be a small phrase which would also describe his game time so far.

I realise people are desperate to look for positives with him though considering he cost a fair wedge, was signed by Dyche and is seen as a similar player to Jones.

Not shown much when on.I would have been happier with him in on loan, not
£5m staight off. We had Kites who would have offered similar options .I hope I'm proven wrong. We got duds last year and I hope Ashley doesn't turn into this season's bad buy

Glad people are going to give him some games before writing him off.

Nothing like a couple of games to determine a player's ability.

He didn't cost a fair wedge, it was only £5 million.

120 ish PL appearances with Villa in 4 seasons would suggest he's not too bad either.

Could do no worse than Barton on current form.

This is how I would play Westwood (Tarks in assuming Mee is injured).

.......................Heaton
Lowton.....Keane......Tarks.....Ward
............Westwood.....Barton
Hendrick.........Defour..........Brady
........................Gray

This line up can be very defensive or very offensive depending on the opposition or the way the game is progressing.

He did play for another team before he came to Burnley, Villa fans were hardly suicidal when he left .

All 13 players today deserve the plaudits, a team of useless away players with no hope against mighty Palace (who have just beaten all the good clubs) have just given every ounce of effort available to them. Like probably 20,000 other clarets I can't wait to voice my appreciation at the West Brom game, what an achievement and Ashley Westwood you too were excellent today.
