We were never at the races when the circus came to town! Seems to sum up Sunday unfortunately.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a circus did once appear at Turf Moor 50 or 60 years ago? Or at least the animals were paraded round the pitch but couldn't find the reference to it.

Saw a few clowns in the mid 80's and virtually walked a tightrope myself one particular Saturday in May 1987.

Can’t say it didn’t happen, but as a kid brought up less than a couple of hundred yards away I don’t remember a circus ever taking place on t’Turf, even going back further than that. Do remember though a ‘string’ of elephants, trunks wrapped around the tails of the ones in front parading up Brunshaw Road when a circus came to Fulledge Rec as they regularly did in those days.Rodleydave wrote:I'm sure I read somewhere that a circus did once appear at Turf Moor 50 or 60 years ago? I can also remember very clearly a display on the pitch by Russian Cossacks on magnificent horses one evening around 1946/47. They charged up and down in front of the BL stand (The Enclosure in those days) and churned it up as if it had been ploughed!
Mind you, the whole pitch often wasn't much better in those days as you will see from old photos:-)

There was a circus on Tuef Moor in the early 1900s as the club was short of funds following relegation to Division2.

United results at Turf, 1-0 loss, 0-0 draw, 2-0 win, at least show they are improving. I think they'll be safe this season.
