Had a couple of flickers here on the outskirts, but that's all.

They can't touch you for it ! :)

Is there unrest at Orgreave Coking Plant?

Has the National Grid gone down with the initial works of the Winter wonderland Zeri Project at Huncoat or the new World Class Racecourse on the flood plains at Altham?

I still remember trying to make a piece of toast over a Calor Gas camping stove, during the power cuts in Padiham in the early 70's. It was a disaster; all burnt bits and virgin bread and lime marmalade.

"burnt bits and virgin bread and lime marmalade"

If that's not the title of your memoirs i'm going to demand a refund.

I believe one of the locals tripped everything when he plugged his electric shaver to trim his thick neck hair..

I rang my mum last night to see if she needed anything bringing round as her power was properly off while mine just flickered.

A short reply of we have a torch and we lived through the 70s, meanwhile all the younger generation were seen buying up all the emergency rations of bread, milk and water to survive the full hour.

Hahahahaha, that just about sums up my ridiculous life, though the actual title of the first volume of my memoirs is No More Random Shapes (see cover.) I won't be writing about life in Padiham or Burnley (much) because most of the protagonists are probably still alive and I still have relatives in the locale. it's more about the intrigue of higher education and getting thrown of a PhD course in an academic sting. It's still a Padiham story though, as the saying goes: One can take the person out of Padiham but you can't take the Padiham out of the person! :D, so no stories as yet, about the likes of a park bench being very carefully covered all over with a varnish of dog sh*t and a whole line of shopping trolleys in the Calder.

All you needed back in the 70s when a power cut happened was a candle a radio and carry on listening to John Peel

I remember the huge emergency generator they had down at the Turf in case the floodlights went out during a night match.

No floodlights allowed for some matches. Burnley played Norwich on a Tuesday afternoon once, when everyone was at work or at school, where the food was t.v.p meat and t.v.p. potato. No wonder I was thin and ill.

Still, there were some that went on, there was an attendance.

I think it was a cup replay and about 10,000 turned up (skived off work or school), but I don't know exactly.

I was there, but so was Ticker the deputy head from Barden on the lookout for absentees. Lots of us had some explaining to do the following morning.
