Re: France votes pro-EU
Its France....they've got more invested in the EU then we have.
Their farmers really need them to stay in the EU don't they?
What about the currency if that fails?
The UK in comparison was more on the edges.

Perhaps they realised how much they will be punished by the EU, or they could have voted for the relaxation of employment safeguards, a longer working week, smaller public sector, higher retirement age, relaxation of border controls and increased police powers.

Maybe if the Government hadn't blocked the press from releasing details of the Macron leaks to the French public the result would've been different.

This was a vote against fascism. Most people arn't behind Macron but the alternative of the far right is unacceptable.

Re: France votes pro-EU
Not really news is it?
Anyone who has been predicting a victory for Le Pen doesn't understand the very democratic nature of the French electoral system, or the generally pro- EU sentiment in France.
Those who have been predicting a Le Pen victory following Brexit and Trump have based it on wild optimism - not facts, and if you check back on my posts for the past 12 months I've consistently said this.
Austria, the Netherlands and now France have rejected far-right candidates, which suggests that predictions that the EU will fracture are premature, especially if Merkel wins in the autumn.

You call that scaremongering? I don't care though, they had the chance to fight back but chose their natural position as a nation of cowards and picked a soulless political shill, globalist banker.

Well lets just see how the ordinary muslims repay this show of solidarity over the next few years when the terrorist attacks keep coming. Which i assure you, as certain as the sun will set will come. Lets see if this show of unity against fascism as you call it encourages the moderates to rally around the French people and finally root out the evil that lays in their communities once and for all.Imploding Turtle wrote:What would Le Pen have done except give ordinary Muslims a reason to think the French people genuinely hated them? Le Pen proved herself as nothing other than a goose stepping idiot during the debate on Wednesday evening on French TV.
She was limited to personal insults to the personal life of Macron, and for some bizarre reason, the age difference between him and his wife.

Re: France votes pro-EU
I'm genuinely intrigued. In what sense are the French a nation of cowards?. They have an extraordinarily proud military history and have frequently shown amazing courage and bravery. You only have to think back to WW1 and then the resistance during WW2. Then go back a bit further and consider their achievements under Napoleon, not to mention the Norman Conquest.ClaretMoffitt wrote: they had the chance to fight back but chose their natural position as a nation of cowards and picked a soulless political shill, globalist banker.

Re: France votes pro-EU
I spend a lot of time in France and, in my experience, there is a lot of Euro Scepticism. The people I speak to are unhappy that the UK is leaving the EU on the basis that leaves them with Germany.
But while the French are fiercely patriotic, they are not (generally) racist, just like every other world population. They would never vote for a fascist, but a Eurosceptic moderate would have won, I suspect.

Re: France votes pro-EU
I'm no fan of Le Pen, but her initial promise, since softened, was to leave the Euro currency, and offer a vote as to whether or not to have a Referendum on Frexit ! The rest of her policy agenda was left-wing, protection of jobs, anti globalist, pro-tariffs and a vow to reintoduce Border Guards...nil_desperandum wrote:Well I think the point is, is that Le Pen was standing on a FREXIT promise, and little else in the way of policies, (apart from causing a massive issue with the significant Muslim minority in France).
As she won't win, it hardly matters in the short term.. Macron will win but hardly anything will change. All of his reforms will run up against the Unions or Farmers, who will block the streets/ports/auto-routes with burning petrol laden tyres, and masked men until he climbs down. Meanwhile, Mrs Merkl will continue her slow road to a German dominated European superstate, or 4th Reich! This was always the original aim of the founding fathers of the European movement !!

It's pretty typical of fascists. They know they can't win based on the facts fo their arguments so instead they have to go after you personally. Britain First, for example, pride themselves in threatening "direct action", particularly against journalists, instead of winning arguments if you do something they don't like. If you followed the US election on internet forums or subreddits you'll have rarely seen Trump supports try to make valid arguments. Instead what they'll do is ban you from whatever subreddit you're posting in if you say anything that upset their narrative, and then get back to calling Hillary Clinton literally a murderer, or bring up Bill Clinton's infidelity, or claim she's part of a paedophile ring.
Just look at Moffitt's visceral reaction about the French. That's basically all the alt-right have when it comes to ideas. All they have is hatred and anger. No workable ideas whatsoever. It's why Trump can't get anything done, because what he wants doing can't work.

Particularly as this inability to see that this is taking place generally seems to come from the same people that hold huge, huge store in individual nation sovereignty. Yet, no comment about interference in elections, just weird stuff about how having your servers hacked and leaked isn't a problem if you've nothing to hide.Lancasterclaret wrote:Its absolutely incredible that people can't see that its a blatant attempt by Wikileaks (run by a bloke who is so far up Putins arse, he's almost touching Marie Le Pens feet) to sabotage the democratic process.

Like I say, let's see if France is a better, more peaceful place in 5 years to what it is now then seeing as its done all the right things in your eyes shall we? The French people have made their position clear, they have chosen globalism, they have chosen the establishment, they have chosen eastern immigration, they have chosen a neutral stance on the fight against domestic terrorism.

They have done what they have always done. Shat their pants and surrendered.
They've heard all the "we are gonna shaft the uk" rhetoric and poo'd in their little lacey panties, and gone for what they know. Scared to death of change.
The EU is dated, and on its way out. We started it, the others will follow. France will be left til last.
