Now that our local rivals are on there way to oblivion, isn't it time we just forgot about our once most hated enemy, they are now so insignificant we need to find ourselves some better rivals,Bury or Stanley...come on guys let it go they are history let's move on,they don't matter to us anymore,we are better than them let's move on.

Re: Time to move on
We could move on.
You maybe right.
But...can we just watch their team bus chugging off to Fleetwood, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury......
Some great, old Lancashire clubs there, that our friends down the road thought beneath them.
Hope they get the appropriate welcome.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the Chicken farmers will throw in the towel when they realise how much money they've just lost due to their mismanagement. Ikea Blackburn anyone?

You let it go if you like.
When they are gone, I'll let it go. Until then, absolutely no chance will I let them off the hook.

I recall the days when Rover and Burnley fans stood on the same terracing
(Bee Hole end if I recall correctly) and seeing who could come up with the best joke or chant.
No trouble, no hatred.
I'm not sure how this rivalry and hatred developed.

Re: Time to move on
My dad told me stories of visiting Ewood just after the war and fighting all the way from the station to the ground. He also remembered trouble between the fans before the war.
Re: Time to move on
I started going on the Turf from about 1984 and the hatred for them was well established. I didn't understand it either, until a year later when I started Secondary school....I went to St.Wifrids in Blackburn and as a Burnley fan in a Blackburn school I got called **** and spat at on a daily basis....jurek wrote:I recall the days when Rover and Burnley fans stood on the same terracing

Re: Time to move on
Blackburn who? In the early 70's they meant as little to me as Norwich or Watford. Leeds and Liverpool and Man United were Burnley's main local rivals. I still think of Leeds as our biggest enemy. It was only after going to school in Clitheroe that I found out that folk supported Rovers.

Re: Time to move on
I was in a pub in Whalley a few weeks and overheard three Rovers fans talking. Their conversation was roughly as follows: "If we go down it will be great in League One coz we will fill and take over every away ground". Delusional?

I went to Wilfrid's too but I started in 1995. They'd just won the league and we were relegated to where they are now. It was a horrible 7 years (for some reason I stayed on at 6th form) so I'm absolutely lovIng life right now

I know a few folk who used to work at Blackburn Royal, they hated it;came out of work regularly in tears and dreaded going to work each day due to the vile victimisation of those self-proclaimed 'better humans' .

Yeah, going to school in Accrington in the 90's wasn't very pleasurable when all the glory hunters appeared.
I plan to enjoy this for about 10years

Re: Time to move on
I know one should be magnanimous in the moment of your triumph but it's impossible. The gloating will continue for months and hopefully years. My first game on the Turf was 1974 when there was a two division gap and the wheel has finally turned full circle. Why it took so long only the football gods know but the longer the wait, the sweeter the taste!

I was at Wilfrid's in the 70s. One lad used to go round scrounging money, if we had a night match, so he could go.
Re: Time to move on
Jurek, you must have the secret of eternal life, either that or you are so old your memory is playing tricks.I went on my first Burnley game in 1962 and I have been a regular ever since. I cannot recall a time when there was anything but pure animosity towards Blackburn Rovers, certainly not standing together swapping friendly banter.

I am like you mate. Growing up in Rossendale in the 60/70S. I Only ever met one Rovers fan, and nobody cared less about him. Our only rival's in those days were Man United and to a lesser extent Leeds. Nobody gave a 2nd thought to Rovers.Pstotto wrote:Blackburn who? Move on?
It's time to move up.. a gear in the "banter" stakes if you ask me!
Lived across from a b4stard for too long from 10-19 years old, wasn't pleasent at all.
Couldn't leave the house without some comment or gesture.
Regretting I moved now..
He painted his garage blue and white halves, flag in the window with 5-0 up.
Left bananas on our car.
Took every opportunity to mow his lawn in his shirts, whilst we played on the street, and never give me an ounce of peace from various score line jibes if we got beat/they won.
I will enjoy this as much as possible.
Can't wait to see him again in town or something.

Re: Time to move on
I was at school in Clitheroe (Primary and Secondary) between '75 and '86 and there was no love lost. It was a difficult period as during that time the balance of power shifted as our plummet down the leagues happened. Couldn't be more delighted with the current situation!

Re: Time to move on
One of the ( maybe only) downsides of being in the PL was not playing Wovers or Weeds.
There is no one in this league who cares enough about us to hate us. Even Boro have run away
Maybe we should hope Huddersfield get promoted but it is hard to hate them when they assisted Birmingham to stay up
