Things you miss in football

Post by KRBFC » Fri May 12, 2017 12:57 pm

Anything?
I miss the old AC Milan side, Shevchenko, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Seedorf.

The game isn't the same without Sir Alex.

Another thing, Keane v Vieira, where it actually seemed to mean something between the players. I don't think the foreign players quite understand the English game.

A Brazilian team that still had that mystical aura about them, mainly the 90's team that I remember.

Amongst others...

Muddy bits down the middle of the pitch.
Players trying to attack the opposing goal, fending off fouls rather than going down at the merest touch.
"Unsafe" standing.
The old Offside rule

Both, at least definitely one of those players, are foreign.

But I wasn't on about just them two players, both the Arsenal and Utd sides were made up mainly of English players. Even if it was players like Nicky Butt and Phil Neville.

Mass pitch invasions by deliriously happy supporters who would put smiling players on their shoulders.

Final game of the season that you can get nostalgic about on 'Match of the seventies' were loads of skinny fans lined the touchlines, sometimes tackling the winger.

I miss certain Burnley players not being in the game anymore. I miss the likes of Robbie Blake and Glen Little. I miss Wade Elliott who is one of my favourite ever Burnley players (and an absolute gent).

I miss before Dyche came to Burnley, when we were a mid table Championship side playing that wonderful football where we'd score 3 goals and the opposition would score 4 goals.

Agree with the first 2 post. A proper Brazil side!!!

There's a museum at the San Siro with shirts from that Milan team. Incredible when you see them all lined up Maldini, Nesta, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Shevchenko, Inzaghi.

Tricks and pieces of skill, beating a man and getting a cross in.

I thought the game had come on leaps and bounds in the passing department, meaning football had improved. But there are far too many safe passer's in the game these days often leading to boring games.

1) Watching games on ceefax
2) Checking clubcall for rumours
3) Players coming into the bookies outside the ground before the game (Little, Weller and Smith main culprits)
4) Ade Randall playing keepy up before games
5) Warren Joyce's shorts

I was struggling a bit then but thinking about Keane and Vieira, the game's got a lot softer. There used to be mean b***ards who'd tackle hard, foul and just generally be an intimidating presence. They were the leaders and the villains. Obviously refereeing and rules have changed and there's good reasons for it, and there are still bad tackles but I can't think of anyone we've faced this season who's been intimidating in that way. That type of player has gone and it seems like it's tarts that have taken their places. The villains now, the only ones I can remember booing this season, are pathetic, soft, diving, acting, trying to get people sent off.

Easy to say because it's not my ankles/shins/knees/career, but as spectator I'd much prefer a game that featured a couple of proper big tacklers to a game with a couple of diving tarts.

Those sides beat their opponents in the tunnel. Standing next to Viera or Keane would put fear into anybody. Not just them 2 though add Gilberto, Campbell, Stam, Pallister, Keown, Adams.

But as a neutral it made the Arsenal v Utd game, a game you would look forward to watching. I remember the time Ruud Van Nistelrooy missed that penalty and was crowded by Arsenal players.

Proper sliding tackles - it was an art form. There were none of these bizarre two footed out of control leaps, just proper hard challenges.

Dancing to "building with the Burnley" (building society) on the longside at half time. A mate of mine plays it first record at parties when it is 12.00 new years eve.

I miss proper football people

The likes of Bobby Robson, Alex Ferguson, Graham Taylor, George Graham... the type of people you can imagine chewing your ear-off if you ever struck up an conversation. The closest we have is now is Harry Redknapp or Neil Warnock
