Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
He's only 29 and while he hasn't played much this season, he's shown glimpses of his quality. Not to mention he's a Belgian international.
Do you think we're looking at a loss or can we get back what we paid for him?
Of course, this is all assuming he goes (which it seems likely he will).

Wayne Thomas is one of the best bits of business we've ever done. Then again, we did pay 1.5mil for Leon CortVegas Claret wrote:you remember how much we sold Wayne Thomas for ? There'll be no loses !!!

I think it's likely he'll be toddling off. Such a shame but I think there's a lot we may never know about his time with us. Poor attitude, chain smoking etc..
I'd say anything over £5million would be a bonus, not sure why but I can see him at Newcastle! In which case pull their pants down for a profit!

You'd hope we'll get a decent offer if he's indeed keen on going abroad to China or wherever. Some of those clubs are spending big money these days. But yes, would be nice to recover at least some of the fee!Holtyclaret wrote:I think it's likely he'll be toddling off. Dont forget only this season we managed to get Bham to cough up some cash for Juke but to be fair weve gone on to see what idiots that set of owners areIndigoLake wrote:Wayne Thomas is one of the best bits of business we've ever done. Then again, we did pay 1.5mil for Leon Cort

Yes, I get that impression as well. I trust Dyche on this one but it's hard to say how much it's down to Defour not impressing and how much it's down to Dyche being stubborn.Silkyskills1 wrote:I imagine he's been counting down the days for quite a while now.

Be flabbergasted if he stayed in England. I doubt he's really impressed anyone here.

To be fair to Juke, he did score 11 league goals for them this season. Hardly prolific but his goals seemed to dry up with the ridiculous change of managers. He'll do well for them going forward, in my opinion (well, if they can sort their shizzle).Devils_Advocate wrote:Dont forget only this season we managed to get Bham to cough up some cash for Juke but to be fair weve gone on to see what idiots that set of owners are

We've already got our money back for him since he helped us stay in the league.

If his argent is touting him round China we could double our money.

Re: Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
Thats only true if you believe we would have gone down without him and with the alternative player(s) we spent the 8m on instead.
By your logic if we'd paid Liverpool a £15m loan fee for Flanagan we would have got our money back just by staying up

Re: Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
well, he's impressed all of us, and we're as tough a crowd as you'll get....... and we only saw glimpses of his capabilities.Jambounchained wrote:Be flabbergasted if he stayed in England. I doubt he's really impressed anyone here.
To the earlier post regarding him or Dyche's stubbornness - if he IS a smoker, never mind chain-smoker, I honestly can't see Dyche letting him get away with that as it compromises his stance on fitness and diet. I'm just realizing this, but if true I'd stand by Dyche on this, which is a material shift in my own position in witnessing the waste of such a player.
If he doesn't smoke, then I don't know what to say anymore.

Very good player.
Dunno why, but it just hasn't worked out.
I'm with SD on this. Whatever he decides is good enough for me. He's earned that.

Yes, from approximately last August.Silkyskills1 wrote:I imagine he's been counting down the days for quite a while now.
Re: Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
Defour played a part in some key goals at the start of thes season ... without some of those early points we would quite possibly be down. Flanagan??Devils_Advocate wrote:Thats only true if you believe we would have gone down without him and with the alternative player(s) we spent the 8m on instead.

Re: Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
Will be sorry to see him go and I'm sorry we didn't see more of him. Much too good of a player to be sat on Burnley's bench in my opinion. When not been deployed on the wing, he was excellent for us, outstanding ability and plenty of effort too. Unfortunately not just an SD type player. If we don't recoup our money, it will only because he has not been in the shop window.
Good luck to him.
P.S.I don't believe that bo**ocks in a Belgian rag recently.

Re: Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
Defour helped us pick up early points and much needed confidence. His signing was a statement of intent and caused a frenzy amongst the supporters. It drove great er competition for places which undoubtedly lifts other players levels (I could go on but surely you get it).Devils_Advocate wrote:Thats only true if you believe we would have gone down without him and with the alternative player(s) we spent the 8m on instead.

Nobody could accurately assert our league position without him, but we had him and he contributed towards our target of survival so his (actually fairly modest) transfer fee has already been paid back twice over.

He has two years left on his contract and we're not going to be in a situation where we are desperate for money so we don't have to accept any lowball offers.

He had absolutely no interest in being at the dinner last night and sloped off long before all the other players.

If he's a chain-smoker then surely that would mean he'd have to smoke during games, and I think we'd notice.

We will get our money back, title winner, captain material, European experience and international player.
Some people probably hope we don't get our money back so they can complain about it.

Yes we will. One handy bi-product of staying in the Premier League is that the value of our players tend to go up.

With a WAG like he has waiting at home, I think I'd make an excuse and leave early. Frickety-frack, oh yes.Selby Claret wrote:He had absolutely no interest in being at the dinner last night and sloped off long before all the other players.

I can honestly see someone like Brighton paying 10m for him. And I think he would be more suited down there than up here.

Re: Will we get back what we paid for Defour?
I meant there's a lot of tittle-tattle surrounding him, rumours if you like, but its all unsubstantiated so we may never know the real facts. I've heard from several people that he is a heavy smoker and we've all heard the rumours that he prefers to train alone. Who knows what's true or not.
Apparently he was the first player to leave last night.
There may be more to him and his character than not just fitting Dyches framework.

After a pre-season under Dyche he will either be worth £10m or sure he wants to leave
