For those who want to make a longer weekend of it.... Longtitude Festival is also on, close to the City Centre - http://www.longitude.ie/line-up" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There's racing and music at Leopardstown on the Thursday night - it's also close to the city centre, and tickets to get in are around 15-20 euros... It's the Hothouse Flowers on the 13th July.
There's also obviously loads of pubs.... Just don't go to Temple Bar.... it's a hole, and full of tourists. Try Dame Lane (Real ale and Lively Bars) Georges Street (Indie Bars and good food), Camden Street (Studenty and lively - Flannerys for cheesy nights, Bleeding Horse or Whelans for Rock) Harcourt Street (Home of the Infamous Coppers or Dicey's for a good outdoor beer garden and cheap drinks on a sunny day) or The Cobblestone at Smithfield for live traditional music and a good pint and direct access to the Luas to the ground (Probably about an hour though) (Handy if you're staying at The Maldron Smithfield, which is often reasonably priced, but not that week having looked).
Should be a good friendly... loads to do too. Croke Park tour high up on the list too - great stadium - especially as it's an amateur organisation - plus lots of history - most explaining the English Irish war, but obviously from an Irish viewpoint).

Dan, I can certainly agree with you in recommending the Croke Park tour. I did it in 2008 when we went for the Bohs friendly and it was excellent.dandeclaret wrote:Should be a good friendly... loads to do too. And according to their website they have a league game the day after our game. So that means they could have games on 3 consecutive days. Hope they have a big squad!UpTheBeehole wrote:Yes, and if they get through that qualifying round the 2nd round legs are 13 July and 20 July. Our fixture with them is 14th July.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets set for pre-season in Ireland
we've booked flights from Leeds/Bradford, coming out on Friday morning 6.30 with Ryanair, coming back late Saturday night. Staying at Trinity College which we found to be reasonably priced.
For those who would book but currently reluctant to as they "May play their reserves", this is a friendly where players will be getting match fit, if they play their reserves then we may see a few goals, not something we've been able to see away from home recently!

Which is probably what Sean Dyche will want given it will be our first pre-season game and he likes to ease the players in gently. We'll certainly be playing two teams in this games with no one getting more than 45 mins.Barry_Chuckle wrote:For those who would book but currently reluctant to as they "May play their reserves", this is a friendly where players will be getting match fit, if they play their reserves then we may see a few goals, not something we've been able to see away from home recently!

Shamrock drawn against Stjarnen of Iceland in the Europa League Q1 draw. Should they beat them over 2 legs their fixture list mid-July is:
Thursday 13 July - Europa League Q2 First leg
Friday 14 July - Burnley
Saturday 15 July - Limerick (Away)
Think we'll be playing their kids at best

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets set for pre-season in Ireland
It's a pre-season friendly, not a cup tie. If you look back since Dyche took over he's gone for an easy run out for the first game. We will use 22 players. So basically it doesn't matter, other than to you of course.UpTheBeehole wrote:Shamrock drawn against Stjarnen of Iceland in the Europa League Q1 draw. Re: ARTICLE: Clarets set for pre-season in Ireland
I just think it will be a farce.
It's not entirely out of the equation that Shamrock's management and officials are still making their way back from near the Chinese border with Kazakhstan when we're playing them. It'll be the tea lady letting us into the ground, and their groundsman putting the U16s through their warm up before they face us.
People used to say that training under Coyle was a joke. This time round we just set up joke fixtures with the youth teams of smaller clubs.

It actually is entirely out of the question, since the 2nd round draw was also made - if Shamrock get through they are at home on the 13th (against a Czech side). As has been said, its just a friendly though regardless, enjoy it & take it for what it is, nothing serious, fitness for the lads and a weekend away for any fans that choose to make the journeyUpTheBeehole wrote:I just think it will be a farce.

Give yourself plenty of time to get through the airport at that time. It's peak time for stag and hen do's in which we nearly missed our flight. The worker stated it was like this every Friday until 9 o clock when everything runs smoothly. It was a family holiday and we checked in online so normally go straight through.Barry_Chuckle wrote:we've booked flights from Leeds/Bradford, coming out on Friday morning 6.30 with Ryanair, coming back late Saturday night. Booked into Trinity College for the night, £50 for a private bedroom served by 2 bathrooms for 6 rooms, not bad seen as there are 5 of us traveling, including one flying over from Dubai for the game!
Anyone know if there's a pub near the ground or any sort of Clarets get together planned?
Cork was good with the gathering of Clarets before the game.

Playing their youth team would be great for their youths, they wont get many opportunities to be on the same pitch as a good lump of the Irish National team. it should also give the Clarets a chance to put their shooting boots on

Rovers lose 9-0 to Celtic, this afternoon.
Now there's a target worth chasing.
the report I've read didn't list the Rovers side so unable to compare with their EL team from Thursday.
