Chris Wood
Rumoured to be leaving Leeds. £15-£20 million. Stoke, Southampton, West Ham interested. Fits the Dyche profile.
Would you take him? I would.

£20 (twenty) million for Chris Wood. Wow, we could be in for a long summer.
Good player who's had an outstanding season though, I'd probably sign him if the asking price goes down considerably.

Chris Wood is no better than Vokes, if your paying £20m for a striker you would expect a lot.

To compare him to vokes is tricky, both have their strengths and weaknesses but vokes for me is far stronger and experienced.

and to think West Ham offered £15m for Gray in Jan - on those markers Gray is £25m - £30m it is just ludicrus

Chris Wood is rubbish, Leeds fans hated him until he started scoring this year. £20m is insane for a one season wonder poor mans Sam Vokes.

The same Sam Vokes who scored the last 3 goals for us in the Prem? Who has been an ever present in our very successful side of the past five years? He ain't the fastest bit what he does is ever so effective and another one of our undervalued players by our own fans. Wood would not out score Vokes in the Prem.KefkaClaret wrote:Chris Wood is no better than Vokes, if your paying £20m for a striker you would expect a lot.

The lads a championship player at best whose had a good season. Not sure about the valuation but it seems very excessive to me. Then again it's a distorted market due to the present wealth in the EPL.

If ever there was a rumored fee for a player that yold you football has gone mad with transfers then this is it.
Anyone who pays near this fee for him has lost it in my opinion.

Re: Chris Wood
Leeds provide wood with the right type of service, hence thirty goals this season. If they had come up, he may well have got close to twenty for them. He wouldn't get ten for us due to our style of play.
I think he's quicker than Sam, but the other elements of his game aren't as good. In my opinion of course.
No thanks from me.

Re: Chris Wood
He is better all round than Vokes and a little nastier. Almost a cross between Barnes & Vokes. His goal record is over one in three at key clubs-Leicester, Bham and Leeds. But at that price you could get Deeny

Wasn't he at Leicester - If he'd been any good they would have kept him and got rid of Vardy.

Re: Chris Wood
I don't think he is better than Vokes. He may be a bit faster though. i do think he would offer more than Barnes though. That said i think we need a 4th striker so whoever it is doesn't need to be replacing either as far as numbers go.

No. I think we need another striker, but hopefully someone better than what we have. Woods is certainly no better than what we have already.

I liked him when he was at Leicester, but better than Vokes?
He's had one great season, and its only because Leeds are batshit mental is he being rated at £30 million.

Re: Chris Wood
I love how he's already been given the (s).
It's great how our fans spell even the simplest of names wrong.
As for him being better than Vokes, I'm not convinced. He's the kind of player that's great in the Championship but easily managed by premier league defences. There have been plenty similar in recent years, Marlon King, Danny Graham, Glenn Murray to name just 3.

Re: Chris Wood
If we bring in a striker we need to dramatically improve on what we already have. Is Wood the man to do this? Nah
I think loaning a wonder kid from a big club is a possibility. Like when Everton first loaned Lukaku not us getting the likes of Flanagan or that lad now at Middlesbrough... a real wonder kid who will make an impact and have no chance signing on a permanent basis lol.

Re: Chris Wood
Chris Wood has certainly had an impressive season which has come as a surprise to most I'd guess. He'd not been much of a goalscorer before this season. Here are a few stats:
Chris Wood: 27 goals, 4 assists (54% shots on target)
134 minutes per goal / 3625 minutes played
He's only 25 but a player I'd be interested in is Britt Assombalonga (24 years old). He'd be a risk given his injury record but you look at the minutes he's played in comparison and his stats look pretty good, particularly when you consider he's at Forest who were (as we all remember) flirting with relegation on the last day of the season. If the club could be confident regarding his fitness, I think he'd be worth looking at.
Britt Assombalonga: 14 goals scored, 1 assist (57% shots on target)
130 minutes per goal / 1818 minutes played
If we could target players from the Championship like Jota (12 goals, 5 assists), Tom Cairney (13 goals, 10 assists) and a striker such as one mentioned above, I'd be really pleased. Jota in particular is a hell of a player having racked up those impressive stats in only 1709 minutes on the pitch. To give you an idea, Tom Cairney played 4119 minutes!

Re: Chris Wood
As said above no better than Vokes. We'd be better offer to spend 30+ on someone one that actually improves us.
Re: Chris Wood
Why do people think he is better than Sam ?
He looks pretty similar to me.
When Sam played in Championship he led the line brilliantly. With Danny Ings they were the best strike pair in the division - and both scored a bag full of goals.
He played in a team that came 1st and 2nd in the league with more than 90 points a season - Wood played in a team that did not even make the play offs.
£20m for Wood is crazy - and I would be gutted if we went for him for that price. If that is the going rate for players of his calibre then it is going to be a long summer - but on the plus side we could sell Gray for £75m !!

It's quite funny seeing his goals from this last season...most of them are really sweaty goals. That is to say, one or two of them aside, they're mostly crap.
Mind you, a goal is a goal.

Don't agree there. There are some decent goals there al;though you're right about half of the close range ones come off his shin or are a bit scruffy. He's not score quite a few of those in the prem though.IndigoLake wrote:It's quite funny seeing his goals from this last season...most of them are really sweaty goals. Re: Chris Wood
To be fair Vokes wasn't any good until 2013/14 so I'm not sure you can use fans previous opinion of a player to gauge how good he is.
Vokes has got 35 over the last 2 Championship seasons whilst Wood has got 40. Neither record is too shabby.
I've seen Wood score some cracking goals this year so wouldn't object to buying him and let them fight it out to see whose the better. My feeling is it'd be Wood but all depends on whether he'd settle.
Edit: Also Dyche must rate him too as we were in for him before he signed for Leeds

Re: Chris Wood
You make some good points there Winstons and I pretty much agree - their records are very similar (and I would have driven Sam to any club who wanted him in the summer of 2013) but I would like to think we are looking at players who can improve us more drastically than I think Wood would. And at 15m that's just mental.
