Re: Minutes applause
Didn't look like there was one person in the ground who wasn't applauding even West Ham fans.

Wonderfully observed and credit goes to the hammers fans too for their contribution.

Re: Minutes applause
There was also a chant of Uwe, Uwe, Uwe at the beginning which was appropriate. Really nice that Jenny and some of her family felt able to attend.

I was surprised that the club's flag wasnt set at half mast but the applause was exceptional including the West Ham fans.

Re: Minutes applause
I too noticed that the club flag was up there. Poor that the club flag wasn't hanging at half mast. Burnley of old.
West Ham fans were impeccable for this.
Uwe would've won this game for us.

I go on with a group of people and all I can say is for the first time in many years we unanimously supped up and ensured we were on well before kick off such is the respect we have for Peter. One of my all time favourite Clarets.

Re: Minutes applause
Have to say it brought a tear to my eye too. Someone asked on the board last week whether he liked the nickname. I'm sure he was fine with it, I was one of many who actually used Uwe when talking to him often enough.Stevie2112 wrote:I had a tear in my eye when Uwe rang out, lovely tribute to a great player and man.
Also well done to the WHU fans.
On Friday when the funeral went past there was no flag at all. Hugely disappointing from the club.lovebeingaclaret wrote:I was surprised that the club's flag wasnt set at half mast but the applause was exceptional including the West Ham fans.

Re: Minutes applause
I'm not old enough to have seen Uwe play, but was brought up on the players of old since the 80's. I was joining in with the Uwe chant, and can't honestly recall another minutes applause as perfect as that one. It seemed like everyone to a man was joining in at the same level for the entire minute. Great to see, and fair play to the West Ham fans.
Re: Minutes applause
Poor show 're the club about the flag. With all our new found wealth they should be humble enough to remember that the likes of Peter were an intricate part of the building blocks that eventually got us to the altar of Sky.

Re: Minutes applause
As I was buying my sons first boots from Uwe's stall I told him that my own first boots were Georgie Best side lace-up hand-me-downs. He said that that he also wore them them and although he took some stick from team mates they were helped him score a bagful of goals in the season that Swindon won the league cup final. The applause was impeccable and meaningful. RIP.

No problem. I do have a short video I could send over whatsapp or messenger or upload to youtube?

If you can upload that would be brilliant, no issues passing my number on either whatever is easier for you.

He was before my time, but good to hear such a club legend was given the respect he deserved.
I'm intrigued by the nickname Uwe, can someone explain the origins of this?

Re: Minutes applause
Yep. Uwe seeler of west Germany was a great player. Peter was given the nickname due to the similarities of hairstyles. And because he too was a great player.
The first player in claret and blue i hero worshipped. Always bought my shirts and other Burnley stuff from him in the market hall. Always a lovely man.
They say never meet your heroes, for fear of disappointment. Well they are definately wrong in this case.
Peter Noble. Top player. Top man. RIP
