He certainly has grown as the season has gone forward. If he can continue that curve next year we will have a cracking player.

Re: Matt Lowton
If being 5th in the league for tackles won is something to praise then what does that say about Keane coming in at 185th. He must be dogshit and we'll be lucky to get shut and get a few million for him this summer
Re: Matt Lowton
A defender at Burnley has every chance! Perhaps more significant is to see George Boyd at 14th. Immense contribution.

I know that it's very difficult for you to praise anything good about Burnley, such is your disposition.
I can see some of the fans of champions Chelsea looking on that stat for Kante and coming to a similar conclusion to you.

Most improved player for us by far.
I just wish Gray had improved at the same rate, then we would have something to
shout about.
Actually, I just wish Gray had improved at all, that would be a start.

A defender winning a lot of tackles is a 'stupid stat'?
Thanks for that.
Yes I've always got a bit excited about any good thing that happens at Burnley, such is my disposition.

The blocks stats look better with Mee first and Keane second. Lowton is 12th.

Re: Matt Lowton
Just browsing and finding other Burnley appearances.
Vokes: second most aerial duels won (Benteke 1st). Impressive given he was in and out of the team. (Keane 8th, Mee 13th)
Mee & Keane:
1st and second Most Blocks,
2nd and 4th for Clearances.
Tied 2nd headed clearances (Shows how much we need to keep at least one).
Heaton: Most saves, obviously.
Little to shout about in the Attacking stats section.
Andre Grey: 5th for Offsides

Re: Matt Lowton
Sam Vokes in 2nd for aerial battles won under the defence heading. Mee looks the best defender if you check all the stats.

Re: Matt Lowton
Just for you then.
I agree with post #15 that Lowton has been our most improved player. I think he is one of our best players in being able to receive the ball under pressure and remain composed and keep the move flowing. Also think he travels with the ball well and his positional play all over is very good. If he could just add a better final ball he would be one of our best players.
Im only joking around but surely if you give kudos to a player for coming high up in the stats then you have to equally associate poor performance with coming towards the bottom of the list. Lowton coming 5th is as relevant and meaningful as Keane coming 185th and in my opinion both stats mean sod all about the respective merits of them both

You see, you can do it when you try and not be a knobhead, for knobhead's sake.
This thread would be a lot shorter if you'd posted that in the first place.

My original point still stands that Keane being 185th to Lowtons 5th shows that the stats are a load of tosh and I wasnt criticising any Burnley player just the pointlessness of your original postBin Ont Turf wrote:You see, you can do it when you try and not be a knobhead, for knobhead's sake.

Why does it?Devils_Advocate wrote:My original point still stands that Keane being 185th to Lowtons 5th shows that the stats are a load of tosh
Is Keane the only player we should look as a benchmark at with this stat?
Lowton has won the most tackles for Burnley, which is a good thing, end of story.
A load of tosh that the top two are defensive midfielders in top seven sides?

just as likely to be an inability on the part of our midfielders to release the ball at the right timeFunkydrummer wrote:Is that a good stat, showing intent and anticipation, or a bad stat showing inability

Re: Matt Lowton
What is more interesting is that both Lowton (5th) and Boyd (14th) operate on our right.
That compares with Ward (39th) and Arfield (145th) on the left (Dean Marney is also 145th with half a season).
The top three tacklers are midfield players.

Re: Matt Lowton
Two years out of Villa, i think Lowton has been rehabilitated from that awful spell at Villa ans he's maturing into a first choice option at tight back for years to come. So much so that whilst we need another option at right back, the priority is likely to be cover for Lowton rather than a genuine competitor for his place.

Re: Matt Lowton
Generally, i think we set up to reduce the amount of space on our left (opponents' right, where they tend to prioritise attacks) and therefore force teams ro attack down their left where theyre often less comfortable. Tend to mean Lowton and Boyd have to do more 1 v 1 depending, albeit against theoretically less threatening players. That will logically result in them making more tackles.Hipper wrote:What is more interesting is that both Lowton (5th) and Boyd (14th) operate on our right.

Liverpool at home when we willingly conceded space to the right footed Milner, was a good example of this.

More stat based nonsense, this time from Opta........
Most effective Premier League players, team.............
Heaton
Clyne
Azpilawotsit
Mee
Monreal
Kante
Romeu
Eriksen
Hazard
Sanchez
Kane
That'll be the Burnley team in two years.
