PL 'Debutant' Clarets

Post by Selby Claret » Wed May 24, 2017 9:48 am

Article on official site showing presentation of a 'ball in a box' to 4x Clarets who made their PL debut this season.

The article seems to infer that these four were the only Claret recipients. I am Confused of Selby as surely Defour, Gudmundsson and O'Neill could / should be receiving similar...?

Forget it - answered my own question:

"Gray is one of four 'home-grown' Burnley players..."

strange expression "home grown" as Hendrick is Irish and O'Neill came through the academy, from 16yold?

Doesn't matter one iota when Hendrick is from - he's been in the academy system in England long enough to be considered home grown. I'm not certain O'Neill has been with the club long enough to qualify having arrived from Australia.

exactly my point, CT. If an Irishman who has been here since academy is eligible why isn't an Aussie? I know he was with a Brisbane club but only from 12-16 yold.

It is nothing to do with nationality as I've said so wether Hendrick is Irish, English or from any other country he was with Derby long enough to be home grown. O'Neill has been with us less than three years.
