Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
The club have posted an interview Pete Oliver has done with the chairman on YouTube and it makes for very encouraging viewing. Could someone who knows what they're doing post a link please ?

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
So in a nutshell
- less profit than last time (more on transfers, wages slightly more and bonuses have had a large impact)
- more to be spent on transfers in the coming year than last year
- £9m to be spent on infrastructure including much improved facilities for the disabled, additional work at Gawthorpe (I refuse to call it Barnfield)
- No increase in ground capacity in the next 5 years (doesn't want a Martin Dobson Stand scenario in his stewardship)

The reference to betting made me laugh.
Interesting to hear another £9million will be spent on Gawthorpe and they expect to spend more on transfers then they did this season.
Overall a very good interview.

No,
He says in terms of infrastructure including Turf Moor, disabled section and Barnfield, 9 million will be spent.

He's done a very good job since going solo and I hope we never sell out to foreign investment and keep the club in local hands with people that care passionately about it!

The money being spent on disabled facilities will be in readiness for the 2018/19 season but they are, because they have to be, extensive.Chester Perry wrote:So in a nutshell

Not sure where that fits in with royboyclaret's £50m profit but a really positive interview.
And I call it Gawthorpe too.

Sidney the £9m is total infrastructure both at the ground and Gawthorpe - suspect the Disabled facilities will be well over a million and probably much more

The largest part of that £9million is to be spent at Turf Moor on the disabled facilities ahead of 2018/19.Sidney1st wrote:The reference to betting made me laugh.

I think you can expect the disabled changes to run into millions, not just well over a million.Chester Perry wrote:Sidney the £9m is total infrastructure both at the ground and Gawthorpe - suspect the Disabled facilities will be well over a million and probably much more

" Gawthorpe, brought to you by Barnfield Construction"
Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
Interesting that he says profit will be lower than last time (£35m). I was predicting around £40m profit and Royboy was suggesting nearer £50m. I suspect wages must be considerably higher than expected (or transfer fees much, much higher than disclosed).

Can I respectfully suggest that Mike G has a chat with his financial accountant down at the Turf.
For starters he'll tell him that Income from TV alone will be £45m more than last time in the Premier League.

Fanzone is having a little spent on it over the summer I believe, I ca't see it being a fortune but with a little thought, this could be a real money spinner for the club.
Sunderland had a good Fanzone, they had mobile bars which they rolled out on matchday, put barriers up to funnel punters in organised lines to get served and BIG umbrellas with a circular bar/drink holder to stand at. Great to keep you dry on a wet match day.

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
aggi.....the chairman suggests £32m net spend on transfers during the financial year compared to £12m last time.
£32m for year one depreciation equates to an additional £11m or so plus the £8m from last financial year to the forecast £20m depreciation that I suggested last week.
I see no way that Net Profit can be less than '14/'15 unless possibly these £9m further improvements to Gawthorpe has been accrued, which I'd find highly unlikely.

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
Any indication as to what the £9m of upgrades actually entail. Where will the new disabled facilities be located and what is the extra money to be spent on at Barnfield?
Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
I agree on player amortisation, my back of a fag packet calculation got the same as you.Royboyclaret wrote:aggi.....the chairman suggests £32m net spend on transfers during the financial year compared to £12m last time.

I assume a lot of the Gawthorpe stuff is capital expenditure so won't make much difference.
Basically my thoughts are:
Wages are much more significant than we expected. Higher basic plus a hefty bonus
We've done some accounting trickery to bring down this year's profit for tax reasons
He got the number wrong (possibly looking at cash, possibly not amortising player purchases over the contract)

They are not at Gawthorpe - most of it is to be spent at Turf Moor with the bulk of it for disabled facilitiesRoyboyclaret wrote:unless possibly these £9m further improvements to Gawthorpe has been accrued, which I'd find highly unlikely.

In which case the £9m has no relevance to the current financial year as work has yet to commence.
Wages, as aggi suggests, can be the only figure we are unsure of. But for Mike G's inference to be correct Wages would need to have doubled and surely that can't be correct.

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
We will know the result in about 10 months time. I'm no accountant but was always staggered at your suggestion of £50 million. The £9 million he refers to is for the new media suite at Gawthorpe, some work at the Turf plus the major piece of work for the disabled facilities, details of which are as yet unknown. You are right in your assumption that the work hasn't started although the money will have been ring fenced.Royboyclaret wrote:"They are not at Gawthorpe - most of it is to be spent at Turf Moor with the bulk of it for disabled facilities"

One additional commitment we've had this time on wages is the staying up bonus which didn't apply two years ago.

Well, that's fine ClaretTony, no worries at all that you are staggered.
However, I'd be interested to know which of the four headline figures you are disputing.
Turnover/Income.......£125m
Wages......£45m
Overheads.......£10m
Amortisation........£20m

Hope they spend a bit of money to improve the speed of service for food and drinks at half time in the stands!!

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
financials. Nobody has yet picked up we've paid damages for staying up. Probably Hendrick and Brady. Possibly even Gray?
Really good interview.
Would you rather one £30m striker or 3 x £10m players? Decisions I'm glad I don't have to make.

I'm not disputing any figures because I don't know what the figures are. I don't have access to the club's financial details and rely on the publishing of the accounts.Royboyclaret wrote:Well, that's fine ClaretTony, no worries at all that you are staggered.

So we could be about to spend as much on disabled facilities as Rovers have as an annual income (in round figures). Wow.

In which case how can you be 'staggered' at any forecast suggested?
We know for certain that Income from PL/TV will be £45m more than last time in the PL so for Mike G's assessment to be anywhere near accurate there would need to have been an astronomical increase in costs.

Have to say aggi........I'm now leaning to either one, or maybe even both, those suggestions. Would need to be some exceptional creative accounting though.

Brilliant interview. I really like Mike Garlick - he's done a great job in his time as chairman. So much to be positive about - we're moving in the right direction. UTC

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
He did say payments need to be made to clubs as we stopped up i.e Gray really did cost £9M ! you can imagine the same for the rest of the new signings, could easily add up to £10M. Also stopping up bonus's could be £15M.

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
I'd been thinking about this because Luton confirmed they were to get another payment because of the sell on clause they had when they sold Gray to Brentford. I think it is very likely that we will be paying out some large sums to clubs from whom we've signed players since summer 2015. That I expect will make a significant difference which could be north of £10m.claretandy wrote:He did say payments need to be made to clubs as we stopped up i.e Gray really did cost £9M ! you can imagine the same for the rest of the new signings, could easily add up to £10M. Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
He says all the right things and if he backs the manager like he did last summer ill be happy. It all sounded so exciting and pleasing until he said "hopefully Dyche stays here for another 5 years". I think id lose my mind if I had to put up with another 5 years of garbage Sunday league football.

Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
£9m seems a bit extreme for disabled facilities doesn't it? Could build a whole stand for that?
Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
Not for a minute suggesting I don't believe the figures of 9m for the TCL at Turf Moor, media and disabled facilities but I am staggered by the cost of it.
Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
Glad to hear that the focus of our investment in the short term is going to be the team as opposed to expanding the capacity at Turf.
Absolutely the correct approach and will no doubt help keep the manager motivated, which is key to our continued progression.

Are people not reading this thread? It's 9 million for ground improvements, barnfield improvements, media room improvements and disabled access.
Re: Very Upbeat Mike Garlick Interview
30m or 50m profits, either way what a position for us to be in. Can't argue with Garlick's openness that he will be backing Dyche with a very healthy pot of cash.

I wonder if any plans are in place for a 2nd big screen. As a season card holder in JHU I'd like to be able to see the screen. Obviously i prioritise my view of the game which is why I choose to pay the price I do but it is a slight gripe.

Disabled facilities at the Turf needed prioritising and I should imagine it will be brilliant when done. I feel dreadful when I see those fans open to the elemnts and it's one reason a friend of mine has had to stop going on.
