I wasn't thinking just Clarets but we've also had Jimmy Adamson and Joe Brown, Martin Buchan and Tommy Cavanagh and John Bond and John Benson. All were mistakes.Steve1956 wrote:Was you thinking in terms of Waddle & Roeder Minnie?
On a positive note replacing Fat Sam with agent Kean worked well down the road, as did appointing Brian Kidd because he was a good assistant to Fergie.
Re: Dyche ------->Palace
We should always have a shortlist. Manager jobs change far too frequently, and often out of the blue. It would be naive at best not to have a list that is constantly refined and reviewed.Vegas Claret wrote:I hope our board have a short list just in case !

Re: Dyche ------->Palace
I was in a meeting at the club around a week after Sean Dyche had been confirmed as manager. Lee Hoos was talking about some of the others who had been interviewed and how he was particularly impressed with one. He said: "You always have to be looking for your next manager."DCWat wrote:We should always have a shortlist. Manager jobs change far too frequently, and often out of the blue. I'll wager there are one or two on here will tell you that we witnessed some of tbe best football in our time supporting the Clarets when Jimmy Adamson was manager.

I'd misread your post too. I'd certainly agree with Benson and Cavanagh, in my view our two worst managers ever. Not sure what Joe Brown could have done though given he had to do what Lord told him to do. Re: Dyche ------->Palace
This protracted uncertainty is certainly not good for the club and doesn't look promising with it dragging on.
I became aware several weeks ago from a player my family knows well that he thought Dyche might be leaving us this summer.
If that belief is correct then you would expect other players and others in the club are also aware of this possibility.
Even if he doesn't leave this uncertainty can only be damaging to the club as we approach pre-season training.

Why is our chairman not sorting out Sean's contract .This surely should have been sorted after our safety was confirmed.
I don't think Sean would leave for Palace but jobs come up that may tempt him in future and we need to offer him a 5yr deal as a reward for all he has achieved.

Think dyche will leave. They have supposedly talked to both de boer and pelligrino and neither have been offered the job so must be doubts. If they approach us, can't see dyche saying no

Re: Dyche ------->Palace
Just look at it from his perspective: is there any better time to leave a club than after four terrific seasons, two promotions against all odds and PL survival (also against all odds)?
Re: Dyche ------->Palace
I'm amazed that Palace are suddenly seen as some huge step up. We are pretty similar clubs, with similar potential barring perhaps a bit of bigger spending power at Palace.

I don't think many see the club as a step up, Dyche's wages would probably quadruple though !DCWat wrote:I'm amazed that Palace are suddenly seen as some huge step up. We are pretty similar clubs, with similar potential barring perhaps a bit of bigger spending power at Palace.
Re: Dyche ------->Palace
Dyche wouldn't get a job at a top 7/8 club right now. That leaves around 10 clubs in the prem he could move too next. Reckon palace are one of the more attractive options. Some good players and a good owner. He might not want to leave yet but it must feel a tempter.

There's simply not 10 clubs in the PL that would employ SD, there really isn't.Andym26 wrote:Dyche wouldn't get a job at a top 7/8 club right now. Re: Dyche ------->Palace
Not saying that they would go for dyche but in terms of who dyche would target as his next club there would be 10 ish. Teams would tend to go foreign anyhow. Bournemouth unlikely to get rid of Howe. Just reckon palace over your stokes/wba/West Ham is a more attractive proposition at this moment in time.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. You have to be pretty naive to think we haven't tried to get him to sign a long term deal.Woodleyclaret wrote:Why is our chairman not sorting out Sean's contract .This surely should have been sorted after our safety was confirmed.

Re: Dyche ------->Palace
I am pretty sure Dyche has a caveat in his contract that means he is on a rolling deal that gives him the opportunity to talk to clubs if he wants to.
Who can blame him, he is ambitious and made no attempts to hide this fact and he is in an excellent position, negotiation wise at Burnley given his past heroics here.

Re: Dyche ------->Palace
Realistically, his stock is as high as its ever been and all he can linked with is Crystal Palace.
I think he's looking at, probably as he's ok for money as a chance that he won't get with us.
Its risky for him of course, but if he wants to manage at the highest level then he can't really stay with us forever.

Palace - say it doesn't work out so he's gone by Xmas. Picks up the Huddersfirld job as they struggle but doesn't keep them up so they get rid at the end of the season.
He's looking for a job at Championship level then - not really gained anything other than a few quid
Or stay here and realise this one of the only opportunities available in the PL to build a whole club the way he wants to
He's not Owen Coyle

Dyche is just waiting until this thread of virtual nothingness reaches a 1,000 posts, then he'll retire to Northamptonshire where he'll own a smallholding with chickens, a couple of pigs and Ashley Barnes.

There aren't many/any players or managers who don't rank money as their main motivation. Dyche will be no different. If Palace offer more, he'll be off. Sean Dyche 'interested in Crystal Palace job'

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is reportedly interested in holding talks with Crystal Palace over their managerial vacancy.
Palace have not yet appointed a replacement for Sam Allardyce, who took the surprising decision to stand down from his role at Selhurst Park despite keeping the club in the Premier League last season.
Mauricio Pellegrino and Frank de Boer have both been linked with the position, but according to the London Evening Standard, Dyche is also in the running, and the Burnley manager is interested in holding talks over the role.
Dyche has been at Burnley for four and a half years, which makes him the seventh longest-serving manager in England. He led Burnley to Premier League survival last season, and it is understood that the 45-year-old is now ready to move on.
It has been suggested that Palace would have to pay £1m in order to free Dyche from his Burnley contract.

Re: Dyche ------->Palace
I posted here two weeks ago or so now that I had been informed by what I consider a very good source that he would definitely be going, IF Palace offered him the job.
I was led to believe movements had already been made however, which flies in the face of them allegedly not yet having spoken to him.

If he is on yearly contracts, then presumably the last one ends June ( now ) and the next starts July.
If that's the case he may well be angling for more money and using Palace as bait.

Re: Dyche ------->Palace
I may be an old cynic here..but part of me thinks this is a game played by Palace to cause maximum disruption to our pre-season. Signings on hold (presumably), pre-season about to start, limited time to find a replacement manager. If Palace wanted Dyche from day one why wait until such a late stage? Have a really bad feeling on this.
Plus..unless I'm wrong... we've had no pre-season interviews or quotes from Dyche on how things are progressing. Just rehashes of old statements.

Why didn't BFS stay at CP. By all accounts the money was there and available for new players, so why did he walk.
