If you vote for or against someone based on what football team they support then you're an idiot, as is your right to be.

Could you explain who has stated that they will vote depending on which football team they support?

Not before you explain where I suggested someone had.

Anyone who votes for or against someone based on what football team they support I would consider to be ill advised.

Perhaps the use of the words you, you're and your gives a clue to your query?

It's a fair effort but even the word "you" can be used to refer to the general population. But that's not how i'm using it. I made a statement. It stands perfectly fine on its own. It doesn't require for the reader to have declared an intention for it to be relevent.

I agree with how IT put it and on this occasion I cannot see why folk are quibbling what was posted.
Given the likely fact that there are certain folk who would vote for a block of wood if it were blue or red, choosing how to vote based on the football team supported by a parliamentary candidate does at least show some degree of discrimination.

I agree, you'd need to find out who the other leaders support first, then make a decision.

Does anybody know if he's a real fan (ie been to lots of their matches etc)? Or is he a fan in the same way that Dave was a fan of West Ham/Aston Villa/whoever his advisers (foolishly) told him would give him lad-kudos?

Real one. My brother lives in Kendal. Farron turned up on his doorstep when canvassing for the 2010 election and, as the conversation progressed, Farron revealed he was a season ticket holder at Ewood. My brother took great delight in telling him that he is a Burnley fan and joked that Farron would have to work even harder for his vote.

Long story short, my brother voted for Tim Farron because, as Imploding Turtle said, if you vote or don't vote based on someone's allegiance to a football team, you're an idiot.
