Re: Diane Abbott
in my view abbott is a racist, terrorist supporting anti british establishment maoist supporting MP..
she says so herself :-
Comments on race
In 1996, Abbott was criticised after she claimed that at her local hospital "blonde, blue-eyed Finnish girls" were unsuitable as nurses because they had "never met a black person before".[87] In response Marc Wadsworth, executive member of the Anti-Racist Alliance, who is half-Finnish, pointed out that the then-current Miss Finland, Lola Odusoga, is black, of Nigerian and Finnish descent. "She's a black Finn like me," he said. Abbott's position was supported by fellow Labour MP Bernie Grant: "Bringing someone here from Finland who has never seen a black person before and expecting them to have some empathy with black people is nonsense. Scandinavian people don't know black people—they probably don't know how to take their temperature".[88][89]
In 2010, in defending her decision to send her son to a private school, she asserted that "West Indian mums will go to the wall for their children.", prompting criticism about this perceived slight on white mothers.[90]
On 4 January 2012, Abbott tweeted that: "White people love playing 'divide and rule' We should not play their game", which again led to widespread criticism including accusations of racism.[91] Abbott later apologised for "any offence caused", claiming that she had not intended to "make generalisations about white people". Abbott also stated in an interview with Andrew Neil that her tweet referred to the history of the British Empire. The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg called her comments a "stupid and crass generalisation". Nadhim Zahawi, Conservative MP, said: "This is racism. If this was a white member of Parliament saying that all black people want to do bad things to us he would have resigned within the hour or been sacked."
IRA
In May 2017, The Sunday Times reported that Abbott backed the IRA in a 1984 interview with Labour and Ireland, a pro-republican journal. In the 1984 interview, Abbott criticised the Unionist population of Northern Ireland as an "enclave of white supremacist ideology comparable to white settlers in Zimbabwe" and called for their views to be ignored on the question of Unification adding "Ireland is our struggle — every defeat of the British state is a victory for all of us. A defeat in Northern Ireland would be a defeat indeed".

Exactly i could have made a new thread about this news story but as there was an existing Diane Abbott thread deemed this unnecessary.gtclaret wrote:Or it suggests that she has done something which some people want to talk about and someone doesn't want to open another thread.

I'm no fan of the Tories either, someone mentioned further up the thread Diane Abbott would be a terrible Home Secretary, perhaps she would be,but could she be any worse than either Theresa May or Amber Rudd, both who presided over the Windrush scandal amongst other calamities,it's frightening how bereft of talent or basic competence our 2 potential governing parties are.IanMcL wrote:Every Tory toff could have their own thread, on that basis!

But they could perform simple mathematics, Tiger. I'd say that's a basic prerequisite of a home secretary.
The thought of Abbott in that position terrifies me more than Corbyn at PM.

Fair play to her having a can on the train, though I’d always presumed she was a functioning alcoholic anyway ?
Surely the most racist MP in history and the mere thought of the “ three horsemen of the apocalypse “ Abbot, Corbyn and McDonnell taking the reins of power is as disgusting as it is terrifying

Re: Diane Abbott
I get your point Ian, I really do. We KNOW the tories are making a pigs ear of Brexit - to be fair, anyone would so devisive the subject is. It's actually being used by everyone as a stick to beat TM with. But we aint gonna solve any of those issues here, no-one else has managed to solve them whilst in government. Thing is, she is very unlikely to solve any of the issues you mention, but she COULD at some point be in a position to try to do just that, and that is what people are struggling to get their head around. It's a cheeky mojito if it's my wife, but this woman (along with other parliamentarians, some Lords and maybe a few others) will be responsible for making the laws she so blatantly ignores herself. That's IMPORTANT. She's GOT to get that right.IanMcL wrote:NOT IMPORTANT: NHS in crisis The Brexit catastrofuck Schools in crisis 4m children in poverty 598 rough sleepers dying last year Knife crime out of control Social care, prisons etc in meltdown Soaring use of food banks IMPORTANT: Diane Abbott has a cheeky mojito

Looks like she's being picked on by a bored media.
Hardly the crime of the century, should just leave her be.
She's not stupid either, just appears to lack a lot of sense in many cases, but that happens to some clever people.
Odd how she doesn't always understand what she should be doing, as someone who's been to university we are led to believe that she should be better able to learn and retain all the facts through her superior researching ability...

That was my main point,if the law isn't going to be enforced for anybody it makes a mockery of introducing the said law in the first place.IanMcL wrote:As no one else has been prosecuted, why should she be?
Another of Boris's faux-pas along with spending a fortune on water cannons that were never used, whether the legislation is good or bad is debatable, but that's the laws as they stand, and as a perspective HS and London MP Diane Abbott should be up to speed regarding such laws.
Re: Diane Abbott
The law isn't there to stop every single old age pensioner having a drop of whisky from a hip flask; it's to stop drunks. I dare say it would be enforced if it was necessary to enforce it, but when someone is having a drop of something without even realising they're doing wrong - either not thinking or didn't know the rule - then a quiet word is all that's needed.tiger76 wrote:That was my main point,if the law isn't going to be enforced for anybody it makes a mockery of introducing the said law in the first place.

Loads of laws are not enforced for minor offenders. When did you last hear of someone going to court for having a brake light out, or for speeding at 31 mph?

Abbot is no more gonna be prosecuted than elected as a Tory MP . It’s a non story but a high ranking member of a political party really shouldn’t be very publically flouting the law swigging cans on the train , now if she’d took a **** at her seat this may have some mileage ! it’s just common sense and as for a “ media witch hunt “ ... get a grip ffs .

Virtually every topic aired on here descends into a political slanging match. The few left-wingers , if we must label, are a minority but just as daft for indulging the usual gobshite slabheads.
I hope we do get a divided board - into football and non-football posts - for next season. I reckon this board's days are numbered if not and that would be a pity.
