Loving Tom Hardy at the moment but you still can't beat Mr De Niro.

Deniro is a great actor but I changed my views on his personality when he started spouting crap about vaccinations causing autism.
That's when I learned to separate the artist from the person.
Pacino great
Spacey great

Re: Favourite Actor
Spacey is quite excellent, especially in house of cards.
Always been a fan of the late Pete Postlethwaite.
Matt Damon makes a good picture.
Someone will do very well to top Ian McShanes performance as Al Swearengen in Deadwood.
Vicky McClure is very good. As is Nicola Walker.
And just been reminded by silky... Stephen Graham.

Plenty of decent actors about but no one gets near to Robert de Niro ( going right back to The Godfather 2 mid 70s).

Indeed. 'Taxi Driver' from a similar period in his career is a standout performance too.hampsteadclaret wrote:Plenty of decent actors about but no one gets near to Robert de Niro ( going right back to The Godfather 2 mid 70s).
Must be a weird lifestyle being a method actor, but it's won him many awards, and no doubt swelled his bank balance to boot!
Legend.

Couple of scenes that I can't tire of watching;
Christopher Walker and Dennis Hopper in True Romance.
Robert De Niro when Tommy gets whacked in Goodfellas.
Al Pacino. Say hello to my little friend....
Final scene of Long Good Friday with Bob Hoskins and a young Piers(?) Brosnan
and as an add on, Gary Oldmam's cameo in True Romance

No offence, but that's a bit rough. Some evidence to support this. Good mate swears it was the cause of his sons never seen before but now full blown autism.ClaretAndJew wrote:Deniro is a great actor but I changed my views on his personality when he started spouting crap about vaccinations causing autism.

Gary Oldman - absolute chameleon of an actor. From Drexel in True Romance to Zorg in Fifth element, you won't find many better.

Three actors whose films I'll always watch simply because they are in them; DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman was incredible, also.

Re: Favourite Actor
Great description of one of our best British actors. Aside from some of his mainstream stuff, The Firm, Prick up you Ears and especially Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead ( with the equally excellent Tim Roth ((The Hit)), were outstanding.Darthlaw wrote:Gary Oldman - absolute chameleon of an actor. Re: Favourite Actor
I always distinguish film stars from good actors. Film stars are brilliant but always play themselves in the role such as, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, James Stewart, Jimmy Cagney, etc.
Real actors play many parts in different styles to match the character, I would say John Hurt or Ben Kingsley are is as good as it gets for true acting.

For what it's worth, avoiding obvious candidates such as Marlon Brando or Robert de Niro, my choice would be the incomparable Burt Lancaster. Just look at his track record on IMDb.

Re: Favourite Actor
I have way too many favourite actors, some of whom have already been mentioned.
One less obvious suggestion is Michael Shannon. He's pretty weird but I like him. Has anybody seen Take Shelter? Great film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5U4TtYpKIc&t=54s" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Favourite Actor
Al Pacino in the Godfathers has got to be one of the best performances. Pacino also been good in loads of other stuff - Scent of a Woman, Heat, Insomnia etc
De Niro great in many many films.
Tom Hanks great.
Bruce Willis been in a lot of decent films (and Moonlighting was brilliant !)
I like Christopher Waltz in Tarentino films - but probably more to do with Tarentino.
I love Gene Wilder - Young Frankenstein one of my favourite films ever.
Tom Hardy good....Jack Nicholson....Di Caprio
Too many to choose from - but for me it's probably the quality of the film that makes it for me and I could easily see some of the above actors inter changing in different films and the films just being as memorable - obviously Gene Wilder in Die Hard might be an exception to this !!

Sir Alec Guinness.
So versatile, and I loved the Tinker Taylor series. I can't read the books without imagining him as George Smiley.
