May vs Corbyn...tonight at 7.00pm

Post by hampsteadclaret » Mon May 29, 2017 6:16 pm

This will take place on the Sky News channel at 8.30pm this evening..

This is the format I think..

Corbyn goes first...he will be asked questions by a live TV audience...then he will get grilled by Paxman on his own.

Then Mrs May will get the same...live questions then a Paxman interview.

Corbyn and May will not come face to face tonight...she refuses to debate with him.

I hope the audience asks the boring questions:
- What % of the £46bn you hope to raise, by taxing the rich and businesses, do you actually think you will get?
- Why didn't you build a guesstimate of the cost of nationalising the water companies into your fully costed manifesto?
Then Paxman can get on to the more interesting stuff about Jezza and his cohorts' beliefs on terrorism etc and past shenanigans. But hopefully steering away from what Abbot is like in the sack.

May will have a nominally tricky ride from Paxo re her social care policy (which will disappear from sight within three weeks of June 8th) and winter fuel allowances (ditto) and then be asked why her campaign team has forgotten the election is all about Brexit. And someone in the audience will ask why she set the cause of women back four decades by saying there are 'boys and girls jobs' in the household.

There... we can all watch Britain's got Talent now :)

Boys and girls jobs??? WTF!!!

Blue jobs and pink jobs in my house. I put the bins out and mow the lawn and wash the car, she does the menial tasks like cooking and cleaning and washing and ironing. It's either that or she sees the back of my hand.

Boris Johnson's on now making political hay against Corbyn for holding an opinion Boris Johnson held until Corbyn shared it last week. This is why people hate politicians.

Boris' article from 2005, a week after the London atrocities, is so good it is worth sharing in it's entirety. So, who "gets" the Middle East better, Boris, or Jezza?

By the way, the thrust of the article is that hatred started way before the Iraq war, but there was a "sharpening" to that hatred due to the way Blair didn't adequately explain it wasn't a war against Islam. He also implies he supports action that leads to democracy and women's rights. That is very, very different from the slant we get from Corbyn, so it is the media and corbynites that are being a bit disingenuous by trying to put Boris in the same camp.

What camp? What do you think Corbynites are trying to do except pointing out this guys hypocrisy? You don't have to be a die hard Corbyn supporter to be angry that this guy is making a partisan attack from an opinion he himself shares. (Or was he making a partisan attack in 2005 too?)

Personally, I am going to be interested in..

Who will LIE on camera for what they believe is sensible short term gain?

Who will avoid legitimate questions or give half answers or be economical with the truth?

Who will attempt to waste time by making speeches, and/or repeat themselves?

Are they both confident and at ease with a] audience questions b] Paxman questions.

The both have weak 'areas' where questions will probably be directed..

Corbyn - the IRA, Diane Abbott, manifesto costing.

May - calling the election early, U-turn last week, potential tax increases [can't wait to see this one.. :D ] and her own ability to handle Brexit [she is no economist].

Will the UK press give an accurate account in the morning of how it went?

It should be interesting...it is a great pity they are not doing a face-to-face.

Not the first, nor the last politician to do it. Unfortunately I think May's approach will just be to deflect to Labours inadequacies instead.

Definitely.

Very idealistic, mind, almost to the point of naivety but certainly a bloke who is passionate for his cause. Unfortunately the idealism of negotiating between conflicting sides and negotiation in the middle east it the bit that concerns me.

Put in the position May was on Tuesday morning, would he raise the threat level to critical or look for someone to negotiate with about stopping an impending attack?

As someone who has never voted Labour, I thought Corbyn was excellent. Answered questions directly and clearly. Explained Labour's policy, not just rubbishing others'.

"Are you frustrated that some of your baic core beliefs didn't make it into this manifesto?" (an inexact quote)

He's coming across well. In the real world, all that really matters (at the end of the day) is that us and who we know and care about are OK.

Nice to see that he's aware that negotiations are much easier when both sides are interested in deal

Paxman is being a Tim Sherwood.

Corbyn is coming across well so far imo. Thought his response to the Mancunian guy who was worried about increased tax and VAT on his schooling fees was excellent...

Would like to see what May has to say as still a floating voter at the moment...
