You've missed the boat.. One company as seen it's shares rise 900% yes 900% in 3years. Out something that we all take for granted. Water!

Missed this post, been off Banks since the crash and intend to stay clear for the future until all the skeletons are out of the cupboard, having said that I think Barclays are one of the safest going forward as far as going bust is concerned or asking for state hand outs.

How's your Trading doing all?
Re: Stocks and Shares
I wish Taylor Swift would get into stocks and shares... Then I could take her from behind at midnight on the village green when nobody was looking. I'd ask her permission first, of course.
Re: Stocks and Shares
Shire PLC is a strong buy with loads of brokers at the minute, hitting a 1 year low, with Q2 figures due in a fortnight. Had a dabble there.
I'm in long term on Sirius Minerals, and have quite a bit in there.
I bought some Carillion shares recently with it hitting a low, hoping for a good return over a year or two.
BAE shares are at a 3 month low too, and BP are tipped as a buy at the moment.

Re: Stocks and Shares
Mentioned before I hold surrius minerals, still do. I also hold SML down at 2p another mining shares with mines in Cornwall, Australia and USA, bought high but topped up yesterday. SML are on AIM and somewhat high risk.
Recently sold Vodafone did OK, it's the 3rd time in 12 months I have held these, always a nice little earner and low risk.
Held Lloyds a few times but boring as they make very slow progress, never lost on these but made little due to me being impatient and getting bored

Re: Stocks and Shares
Do any of you actually have the faintest understanding of how to value any of these shares? Are you confident you can spot when something is mispriced and the market has got it wrong? Strikes me that there is a lot of punting going on based on hunches and hearsay and not a lot of proper investing.

I will let you know what I am buying/selling on Markets.com Web Trader virtual and you just do the opposite.
Guaranteed you will win as I am almost 1k down after a few hours. Lucky it's only play money.

Some people gamble on horses I gamble on shares. I only invest what I can afford to lose. Yesterdays close I was 8% up. Next week I could be 50% down and the week after 50% up. If it was a horse I would have more than likely lost the lot.

Fair enough, it's your money and your choice and if you are just doing for a bit of fun then that's fine by me. It's when people pretend they are investing and think they know what they are doing, when they clearly don't, that I would question their intelligence.Top Claret wrote:Some people gamble on horses I gamble on shares. Over the long run a trading strategy will probably make you less / lose you more money than a simple buy and hold strategy through paying additional dealing commissions. Portfolio churn is expensive!

Re: Stocks and Shares
all depends on your outlook and risk profile. Only lost on one trade in close to 30 years. However as mentioned above 114 I buy a basket of mixed using Unit Trusts myself plus use a financial adviser to manage a portfolio, meet him 4 monthly for strategy decisions and check regularly online how the whole thing is doing.
This is of course a long term strategy where I don't buy all that much in terms of when and do not sell much, so far it has worked well with me and have no interest or the ability to do regular trading in an almost daily basis. Not as exciting but probably more rewarding in the long run.
I believe if you check over any 5 year period stocks and share have risen in terms of the full markets for US & UK where most of my investments are, in the 80"s these were mainly concentrated on Far East on Europe. Got to be able to spend such that if wiped out you can live with it and just ride it out, 2009 was no fun but investments made 2014 are doing well.

How's it going CFC?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Anyone on here trade online?
I have invested little bits before without really studying or paying much attention to it and invested bit into a few SAYE schemes which were no brainers. But wanting to get into 'proper' trading a little more.
Anyone a company they would or wouldnt recommend using? I did register with Hargreaves Lansdowne before but havent actually used them yet. So any feedback on these or similar would be appreciated.
Understand (most of) the risks and accept I could lose as well as win. So will just be investing small, affordable amounts initially. Aim is not to get rich overnight but more to hopefully make money over a long term and also as a hobby / interest.
A few companies and industries I would probably focus on initially, not because I have any information specifically other than an interest and knowledge in and of them.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Stocks and Shares
I met up with a friend of mine who is a stockbroker, and he has given me a few tips. But as yet haven't committed to anything new other than a share save scheme. Probably going to do something with him in the near future. Just been too busy with work and holidays to even sit down and do it yet.South West Claret. wrote:What still paper trading or given up for now?
I signed up to something through tips on this forum but was asked to commit specific amounts and they didn't really listen to what I was aiming to achieve. Wanted to invest in something long term without daily trading etc. So that put me off a little.
I have stopped losing money at the bookies which is as good an investment as any. But the season starts again soon

IGG had a fair Trading update last week and I expect the SP to keep rising this week leading up to Ex-divi day. DYOR.

Sirius was at 21.96p at the start of the month, and after some announcements on progress it's now above 28p.
