Twitter reports of van driving into pedestrians and gun shots and a stabbing. Worrying times, I hope no one has lost their life, but I fear the worst.

Oh good, another couple of weeks of right wing nutjobs telling us that they need to cancel all our civil liberties to maintain our civil liberties.
Can't wait.
Going to happen a few more times I fear, you just can't stop people with cars and knives as it takes zero preparation and zero skills.

I too am due in London in a couple of weeks. My plans certainly won't be changing.

Re: Incident in London
You want me to be honest CM?
Ok, I will be.
This isn't going to go away, as long as people think that the only solution to this kind of thing is something that actively discriminates against certain groups of people.
So yeah, the more right wingers that get power, the worse this will get.
If you can't see that, then fine, but just pick up a history book and read about it. Its all there.
QUICK EDIT
Don't think it makes any difference now who gets in to be honest in the short term, this is here for a while, but we can change it. If we want to.

Re: Incident in London
Does anyone know if the gunfire, stabbing and van hitting people were all the same incident?
It is London after all and stabbings are common enough.
Oh and at this rate I won't be taking my kids to London this summer for various football events.

You think something that actively discriminates (or worse) will sort this out.
Same answer to you

What are the odds on another that is on 'the list'.
I don't care how much investment it costs to pump the resources into tracking, monitoring and arresting anyone suspected of being associated to terrorism it needs doing.
If they havent got the money, make money. Save money from elsewhere. Invest.
Take money from non essential initiatives.

The likelihood can be reduced by internment of those on the security services radar. Wait though, the civil liberties of those who would see our version of society dead, are paramount. By the way, I'm no right wing nut job, just as you wouldn't describe yourself as a left wing nut job, I presume.Lancasterclaret wrote:Oh good, another couple of weeks of right wing nutjobs telling us that they need to cancel all our civil liberties to maintain our civil liberties.

Missing the point ten bellies.
Locking people up because you suspect they might be dangerous is very, very, very shaky ground.
Specific threat, yeah, no problem, lock them up
He doesn't like the west? Hmmm, not a reason to lock up

Re: Incident in London
Not only is it a complete abandonment of our principles, it just wouldn't work. You start locking up people who haven't commited crimes, and you do it based on religion and opinions, then you only succeed in turning more people to radicalism. Muslims hate injustice more than anything else. What do you think will happen to the number Muslims with extreme views is we start locking up innocent Muslims simply for holding opinions we don't like?ten bellies wrote:The likelihood can be reduced by internment of those on the security services radar. I just won't work. The civil liberties argument is a winner for me, but even if it wasn't what you want will only make things worse.

Too simplistic, but everything that everybody has said on this thread is a factor in some way.
No one is doubting that certain parts of ultra-conservative Islam are at war with the West, but what they want is what Ringo et al want to give them.

I was at a slighted abbey (Hugomond in Shropshire) yesterday as well Bin on turf.
Only took him a couple of years to destroy centuries of work, and its amazing just how much has actually survived.
Anyway, in a purely historical context, it didn't work, just drove it underground and after a couple of centuries we all got a bit more enlightened about this kind of thing.
