Monk to Middlesbrough and apparently CP are interested Ranieri and de Boer, which I would assume are 2 "sexier names" than SD.

Whilst Bannan buzzes around doing very little Howson actually has some quality. He would be more suited being 'filed' with Will Hughes or Tom Cairney based on quality.

Agree Steve. With a good preseason, our midfield (if howson was added) would sound very good. I could see us going with that plus a proven striker. Wouldn't be surprised if we only brought in two players. (Not squad additions, I mean starters)

Howson is about right for us and the kind of player we will be looking at,I think some of our support thinks we should be signing players like Pogba and Costa, it won't happen but players of Howson's ability will be fine by me.bobinho wrote:Agree Steve. Depends if Keane, Arfield and Boyd go in which case I would be very surprised if we only signed 2 players. If those 3 go along with Barton we need a minimum of 4.bobinho wrote:Agree Steve. Anyway, Bannan wants to stay at Wednesday so no worries about him coming. Maybe we should rename the thread "Lack of ioncoming rumours"

I'm only expecting Keane to leave really. I see arfield and Boyd as squad players, lads who can come on for injuries and suspensions who understand the set up completely.
Although I do think we need to improve on them in the team, I also think as part of the squad they would be invaluable.

BFC might not have a say on whether Boyd stays and if we're offered good money for Arfield it may also prove too good an opportunity for both BFC and SA to agree its for the best to move on.

Niasse - Burnley now betting favourites at 4/1.

Does this mean a cash and player deal with Keane in the other direction, to thwart the 25% fee to M Utd?

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
Thought he looked ok with what little I saw of him.
Strong, quite quick and good in the air.
Although not always in the toughest leagues, but a record of better than 1 in 3 isn't too shabby.
Could be a very good low risk signing, if the price is right.

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
Burnley always used to be very good in keeping themselves out of the frame for players until they turned up a Turf Moor.... it could be there is plenty going on. Besides which, players are still playing wait and see yet, so I'd be very surprised if a major signing was imminent.

For me Johann Berg Gudmonsson will be like a new signing.
He was firing on all cylinders when he got injured. He can cross a ball. And he can hit it too!
Really looking forward to him in the starting 11.

I do like JBG but I think his most telling contribution to our season may be in persuading Gylfi Sigurðsson to join us. Which may not seem as far fetched as you think.RingoMcCartney wrote:For me Johann Berg Gudmonsson will be like a new signing.

Agree. He showed some great touches for Iceland against Croatia and his link up play with Gylfi Siggurdsson is a joy to behold. Come on Gylfi you know you'd love it at the Turf, and it's nearer home!

Sigurdsson who is wanted by big clubs for £25m and will want close to £100k a week? That's realistic.

We aren't entitled to anybody, we simply cannot afford players on 70k+ a week, that will have to be earned.starting_11 wrote:So who DO we get/keep then?

Just because we are in the Premier League doesn't simply mean we have more money than sense to spend, we aren't backed by a rich foreigner so we have to find the deals, we've not done too bad so far following that method !!!!

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
Some people need to get their heads out of the clouds and have a healthy dose of reality. There is no way a player of Siggurdson's quality will be coming to Burnley as much bigger clubs will be in for him. Even if they weren't then why on earth would he leave Swansea for us.
1) We wouldn't be able to match them for wages
2) They are more established in this league than we are
3) They (arguably) have a better squad than we do and therefore more chance of staying up.

In the same way we would not expect our best player (Keane) to leave us and go to Swansea I would not expect Swansea's best player to join Burnley.
Sigurdsson will get a team of Everton's stature - and will be looking at a contract pushing £100k a week.
At least 4 mini leagues in this division and we are in the bottom one
