West Brom boss Tony Pulis is planning a double swoop on Manchester United for defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. Smalling, 27, and Jones, 25, both have two years left on their contracts at Old Trafford. (Daily Mirror)

Baggies finally sign a defender. 26yo Egyptian international Ahmed Hegazi.
With Macauley not getting any younger and Evans linked for a move away this could all be meaningless as regards Dawson but we can hope.

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
'valued at £2 million'. Is that correct or a misprint?
Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
If it isn't we should be looking to get a deal done as soon as possible - £2m hardly covers a League 1 player these days!! If we went into the new season with Cork, Hendrick, Defour, Westwood and McArthur in the squad I'd be delighted. There's some real quality and PL experience in that bunch.Silkyskills1 wrote:'valued at £2 million'. Is that correct or a misprint?

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
Concern with McArthur is that it would leave us with 4 very orthodox central midfielders who (with the relative exception of Hendrick) aren't that forward thinking - I'd sooner our fourth central midfielder was someone like Clucas, capable operating wide or centrally. But at £2 million quid he'd be an absolutely cracking signing and have plenty of money left over to bring in another wide player.

Linked with Jenkinson again according to twitter
Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
Jenkinson and McArthur would be good signings but we need a CB, winger and striker as a priority.

Is Jota a winger come striker? Decent on the ball from the little I've seen but will he bring the pace that we lack?

McArthur is 29 and currently injured. It'd be a very short term signing.

Well we do need player for now....
£2m is very cheap in today's terms however I agree that a lot of our midfielders seem quite 'samey' and McArthur would only add to this.

Why short term when players are now playing at the top until past their 35th birthday. I think this over 30 tag needs to be altered as players are playing much longer nowadays and are adding 3/4 years onto their careers with better diets and increased fitness levelsUpTheBeehole wrote:McArthur is 29 and currently injured. Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
I'm not sure what this age issue is. Taylor, 23 is he? Cork 28 (pretty much prime) and Walters who is far more clinical and anyone who has watched him down the years knows he is adaptable and equally a threat. Unless you forgot his exquisite goal against us last season already!
We have a number of weeks ahead of us. Probably a number of bizarre links too. Are we stronger? Slghtly weaker defensively but I hope to God that is solved soon, as if we lose Mee especially in the opening weeks and are left with Long and Tarkowski. We face a long battle.

Don't buy that at all. If you look after your body, realistically it's possible to go on to 40 if you're adaptable. Look at Pirlo ffs!ablueclaret wrote:At 34 you become injury prone.

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
All gone quiet at the minute, we are probably weaker than last year as it stands. We are a striker, centre half and winger away Imo. Quite happy with the signings of Cork and Taylor, Cork makes little sense because he's quite similar to Westwood but he's a good player. Walters signing to play games is a mystery to me, hes taking up a place in the squad outwide and upfront, both positions need further strengthening. Walters will be fourth choice striker and 4th choice winger if we sign another winger and a striker for the first 11. Hes basically left the bench at Stoke to sit on it here unless Walters is seen as one of the striker/winger signings, if so then its totally underwhelming.

Re: Claret Incoming Rumours
I think the signings make sense IF Dyche wants to be more flexible. The new players will certainly help out in a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-2-1 (I`ll keep pushing it!). The effectiveness though is HUGELY dependent (in my opinion) on Gray and especially Defour being made central to our style of play.KRBFC wrote:All gone quiet at the minute, we are probably weaker than last year as it stands. We shall see but a couple more signings (a `3rd` centre half is a must) will see us reet IF Dyche releases the shackles against teams outside of the Top 10 at least.
