Ian Brennan scored one. If memory serves me at the cricket field end from about the 18 yard line. Cannot remember who against. But its always stuck in my mind as the furthest out i saw a header go in.
I suspect my memory is playing tricks!

Cracking shout is the Barnes one (can't remember Gallagher's).
Another important three points that he's won for us.

Re: Your personal favourite headed Burnley goal
One of my all-time favorite Clarets goals, and appropriate given that "Uwe" has recently passed on: Beat Newcastle 4-1 at the Turf, with Noble netting a stunning, horizontal diving header from around the penalty spot at the Beehole End after Ian Brennan had surged down the left wing and smashed over a powerful cross on the run from near the goal line.

I also go with this one. Was sat in the Bob Lord right behind Wade Elliott when he played the perfect cross.John Johnson 1605 wrote:David Nugent v Sunderland.

There have probably been better, Paul Fletcher scored loads from Leighton James crosses. But can't remember them individually now a days.
Edit: Wade wasn't sat in the stand in front of me, just in case

Watching that montage of Austin's goals... firstly what an amazing striker he was for us! All kinds of goals there. Secondly, you've got to credit the service he received there! Some fantastic crosses and through balls. Brilliant stuff.KefkaClaret wrote:Can't remember who it was against but Austin scored an absolute beauty from the edge of the box.

Although not a Burnley goal, the thread reminded me of the header by ex Burnley defender Chris Brass - it never fails to make me laugh. For the few who have never seen it, brace yourselves... it's funny.

Steve Davis II was from outside the box, wasn't it? Or the very edge of the penalty area, anyway. Can't find a video on youtube. That was the game where we got a late winner for 3-2 - I think Wright scored it - and Radio Lancashire jumped so high in excitement that he pulled the plug out and we didn't get confirmation of the goal for a minute or two.Cleveleys_claret wrote:Paul Wellers against Oxford after Wrighty chased down a lost ball to set us on our way too promotion. Think it was 2-1......sure they scored in first half and wasn't until 5/10 mins before the end when that bullet header from Davis went in, as you said from the corner of the box. So many to pick from. The Gareth Taylor one JDR mentions in his opening post springs to mind. But then there's Jay's to beat Preston 4-3, Arthur's against Preston away to win 3-2, Sean St Ledgers to beat Preston 3-2 at home, Andy Gray's to beat Preston 3-2 at home, Kyle Lafferty's against Preston. Neil Moore's against Preston to win 4-3 or whatever that score was that day. I am sure there have been other good headed goals that didn't include Preston, but Preston does make them much sweeter. Have we scored any headers against Leeds? They would be good too.
But it just has to be Ian Britton's doesn't it?

Re: Your personal favourite headed Burnley goal
The most powerful straight-on headed goal I can remember was Vince Overson in the 3-3 draw at home to Exeter in October 1981. The ball came out to him on the edge of the area, he put his full (not inconsiderable) weight behind it and it flew into the net. Under 4,000 there to see it, sadly.

Agree Ian Brittons has to be the favourite. Everything we ever do comes from that moment.
We have been blessed over the years with some wonderful headers of a football, most mentioned in the thread. Ray Hankins final goal for us was the bravest I've seen. down on his knees, where boots where flying, to score. I think it was against Southampton.

Some crackers put forward, mine is Austin's v Millwall also. However that compilation of his goals just reminds me how good he was! In the box, outside, with his head, penalties, scuffed ones, worldies.....he had the lot. Brilliant.

Jack Cork's wonderful diving header into the goal in front of a packed Bill Shankly Kop at Deepdale to win it late on for us in 2011. It stopped their mini revival and sent them into a terminal tailspin towards relegation.dandeclaret wrote:So many to pick from. The Gareth Taylor one JDR mentions in his opening post springs to mind. Slightly off topic but I scared the kids with the guttural noise I made when Sam scored against Belgium. It was so nice to be able to appreciate him without the pressure of our result riding on it.

I remember playing against Wolves in late sixties and Steve Kindon smashed the ball across the box and Frank Casper put it in with his face. Frank was lying face down and someone pulled him and he had blood streaming down his face.

The best headed goal I`ve ever seen (if not THE best goal ever) was Terry McDermott`s for Liverpool against Tottenham when they thrashed them 7-0 in 1978. Think I fell in love with football that day and Dalglish...what a player!

As mentioned earlier, Leighton James in full flow down the wing, skinning the Liverpool fullback and without checking his stride giving a first time cross for big Ray Hankin to power the header past Ray Clemence at the Bee Hile end.
The speed and flow of the move was sheer poetry in motion.

Think we were actually 1-0 down at the time and Mumby`s header was the equaliser which took the game back to the Turf (awful replay). There was bedlam in the away end indeed and that was the game of the infamous Pearce `tackle` on Hamilton (actually think BOTH players raised their boots). Always remember being there when Mumby scored a `worldie` away to Scunthorpe in an FA cup tie (Scunthorpe were WAY better than us in those days!!!!!)Holtyclaret wrote:Peter mumby in league cup away at forest, absolute delirium against the big boys!
