Best to worst Burnley manager
Best to worst Burnley manager
Here's my list of the best to worst burnley managers in my life time (born 1987). Started watching Burnley under Jimmy Mullen.
Dyche
Ternent
Coyle
Mullen
Heath
Howe
Cotterall
Laws
Waddle
What's yours?
I'd be interested to hear from the older posters because apart from Potts I know very little about the managers from Potts to Mullen

I would personally put Cotterill above Heath. He worked a miracle keeping us up in that first year he took over.

Not sure how Adrian Heath can be on anyone's best manager list , when it was John Ward who did all the hard work .

Apart from falling out with people right, left and centre, Heath was a disaster without John Ward.joey13 wrote:Not sure how Adrian Heath can be on anyone's best manager list , when it was John Ward who did all the hard work .

Tim Noone, you don't have to do. His record is the best.

Best Dyche (although I absolutely love Ternant)
Worst Cavanagh
Worst Cavanagh
Re: Best to worst Burnley manager
Dyche (obviously)
Coyle (Love or loathe him, he achieved the impossible and had us walking on air)
Ternent (not much to say, love the guy)
Mullen (started the comeback)
Howe (built a promotion winning side)
Cotterill (see Howe)
Laws (not the anti Christ people would have you believe. He had no chance of keeping us up when the club's heart was ripped out and left us around the top 6)
Waddle (awful season that improved dramatically when he stopped listening to Roeder. Two great signings in Creaney and Payton)
Heath (as above, useless without Ward).

He didn't though.
What he did was bring some very decent players to the club with the help of some very decent money to work with. The problem was that he couldn't build a promotion winning side.
It took the current manager with the help of his free transfers in Heaton, Jones and Arfield to build a promotion winning side.

Re: Best to worst Burnley manager
There was only one man who built that promotion winning side.
Re: Best to worst Burnley manager
Fair point. Mee, Tripper, Shackell, Ings and Vokes were superb signings though. He seemed to have a blind spot with midfielders, although I liked Stanislas who played his part in that promotion.Bin Ont Turf wrote:He didn't though.

Heath praised Burnley for everyone in the town being behind Burnley.......and he was a great player....but didn't he get get sent off for lobbing the ball back to the opposition keeper after they were awarded a free kick, who let it over his head and Heath got sent off .....

Casper was another manager who built a title winning team which Mullen took up , my best managers would be dyche and potts different managers in different eras but both achieved miracles and miller must be given credit managed 3 times under tough circumstances but it is hard to see past Cavanagh and Benson as worse tho I hated heath thought he was an arrogant knob

Worst -Heath- back stabbing poison dwarf who sowed discontent everywhere he went

Re: Best to worst Burnley manager
For me it's all about the managers who left the club in a better place than when they took over. From that respect you'd say that Dyche is on course to be the best of my time by far. Coyle, Howe, Cotterill, Stan and Mullen all did the same. Laws, Waddle and Heath didn't. Casper sits somewhere in the middle. It was a desperate time back then; just staying in business was a success!
