I knew it would only be a matter of seconds until a post like that was created

Ironically, I do think that would be a good fit for him and I'd be more concerned of him going there than Palace. But alas, he is our manager and hopefully people on here will keep their heads a little bit better than with any talk of a managerial vacancy somewhere.

Southampton are usually a step ahead so might have it sorted already.

this

they have a very distinct way in which they want to play - has been their DNA since they came back up the league and worked well for them - never outside the top 10 since their return to the big time - forward planning has helped them deal with an incredible churn of players and management

I think this is the type of club that'll suit him. Upwards and onwards

Oh ye of little faith. Is it women that have caused this insecurity? Do you feel 'wife to bloke on his own passing in the street,' every time you step out the door? What a b*tch she must be, making you feel so inadequate. There comes a time to quit an abusive relationship.

No, if Dyche had any ambition he'd consider Southampton job as a stepping stone to a better opportunity. He isn't going to manage a high profile club staying at Burnley.

By the way, you do know that Dyche was interviewed for the Sunderland job don't you, but lost out to David Moyes.

Dyche would be mad to go to Saints.
Top 8 finish for Puel and came v close to winning League Cup Final , but fans not keen on his style.
Unless Dyche got them into top 8 and looking good by about October fans would be on his back too, and how can you trust a board who sack someone who's just - by any reasonable consideration - made a great start at Soton.?

I think this thread needs merging with the Puel gone one, as the same conversation is happening there.

As others have said though, Southampton have got a system for recruitment, including managers, and I'd be amazed if Dyche is even on their radar. His football doesn't fit and he can't manage foreign players.

This would be a much better fit for SD than Palace. It would also be a considerable step up. I'm can see this happening more than Palace. Gulp.

I could see our man being interested in this.
But, would Southampton hire a manager who finished below them and who's style probably isn't what they're looking for.

Currently around 20/1 - which is the same as Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Frank Lampard, Gary Neville and David Moyes. Can't see them going for him.

More likely Thomas Tuchel or Jaap Stam.

He certainly wasn't. The Sunderland link was in the previous year when Advocaat decided to continue.

Best merge it also with Dyche-------> Palace - but rename all threads "Dyche------> AN Other Club. A clever IT guy might also do word replace and switch CP/Soton to AN Other Club (or anoc for short). ;)

I'm sure the only things that will be different will the ease (or otherwise) of travel from Northampton.

Sean Dyche has got the best football management job in the world.

There's no way Dyche is going to any side that plays passing football as that is not what he coaches his teams to play like!

You're mistaken. Dyche had an interview the year Dick Advocaat did a u-turn.

Southampton wouldn't appoint him, as others have said he just wouldn't seem like a "good fit". From former Burnley managers it would more likely be Howe, if any.

If they wanted Dyche we'd have a massive problem though.

I'm guessing most of us can work out the distance from Northampton to ...... Northampton.

I know there will be a few who will calculate it as the distance from Northampton to Burnley and then back again ;)

Today's Times supports my post above that the threads should be merged:

"Southampton have a preference for a manager who is out of work and who would fit into their transfer system." Pellegrino is "at the head of the shortlist of candidates...." "It puts them on possible collision course with Crystal Palace, who have been considering the Argentinian for their own vacancy."

Pellegrino "has been interviewed by Palace, who are yet to decide whether they want to change from a British management structure. If they opt against that, they will pursue their interest in Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager."

So, (1) is this just the journalist, Gary Jacob, completing his article by answering if CP don't get P where else will they look; or (2) confirmation that CP have not, at least at this stage, spoken with SD or (3) have CP met with SD and he's said "not interested, I'm British and I only work in a British management structure?"

I'm going with (1).
