Padiham on Parade

Post by Quickenthetempo » Thu Jun 22, 2017 12:05 pm

After last years giant success it's back again this weekend. Well worth a look as plenty going on in the 1940s theme.
The town is decked out in union jack bunting and looking great.
Lots of old vehicles and army stuff to look at with 40s entertainment on.

There's a Lancaster Bomber due to fly over on Sunday but time not yet disclosed (incase ze germans are monitoring the internet).

Mooch cafe will opereate as Café Rene for the weekend.

Get yourselves down to a great free event.

How long has been that going on? Lived there from 88 - 97 and don't remember that back then.

It was the first one last year.

I think it might be based on the successful Howarth 40s weekend.

Ramsbottom did a similar thing a few weeks ago - really enjoyed it.

Think I'll give this one a coat of looking at too.

Thanks for the heads up G.

Padiham archives will be on show as well for the first time in over 18 months due to Padiham town hall being still under renovation from the floods.

The event is well and truly underway. Looks amazing. Top entertainment, kids loving all the army stuff and getting to use the fire hoses.

Bet it sounds amazing. 4 big fat juicy merlin engines roaring the bomb bus along its way. Sends shivers down me spine.

Already happened, was just the hurra.

Think his navigation was a little off as he buzzed Burnley town centre on his second pass!

I was on the way home from the Farmers Market and someone said 1pm. So I rushed home and got back into the centre with my camera and a decent lens just in time to see it in the distance fly over the area of my house

As long as it was "on" in 1944, that's all that matters. ;)

Enjoyed it however I though the info could have been better. For example the service at the cenotaph was poorly attended a lot of people didn't know it was on.

They did most of their advertising on Facebook to keep costs down. It's only funded by donations which hopefully grow for next year. They are doing the token scheme at Tesco at the moment and are actively seeking more volunteers for next year.

The local papers had good write ups but I do understand the not everyones on facebook comment.

It was great to see the town centre so busy all weekend and hopefully all the business's in the area benefited.

Possibly do without the big burger van outside the Town Hall, not only was it out of context but apparently upset a few people because the Chippy going up the hill had put on a themed menu. Obviously they must have paid top dollar for that pitch but for me it should have been down a side street.

Other than that it was a 'nice weekend' and I look forward to it improving year on year.
