3m Striker bid
Re: 3m Striker bid
What a waste of a good 3 million that would be. Wouldn't have him even we didn't have Barnes and Vokes (which we do). Pointless.

This could be a signing for those who do the player ratings and need a player they can give a 3 to regardless of performance seen as Boyd is off.

I've heard that the number 3 is being retired in memory of Boyd.

Re: 3m Striker bid
Good signing
Re: 3m Striker bid
We need to emulate Stoke's success in becoming an established premier league team. Signing a player who has been a key part of what they have achieved seems a sensible move to me, particularly with him seeming a good fit for our style of play.
Those expecting a whole new brand of football next season will be disappointed, and indeed it would be ridiculous to think we're suddenly too good to be signing a proven premier league, international forward. If he really is available for £3m it's a no brainer.

Re: 3m Striker bid
We need cover out wide and up front so for £3 million we can't go wrong. Hopefully just a backup though. I'd be a bit worried about Dyche starting him as a defensive winger every game.
Re: 3m Striker bid
Could be a signing for those who prefer a runner/work horse over a bit of flair and creativity, so they can claim he is pivotal to every point gained now Boyd is off.
You know, the sort of player that the other 10 can't seem perform without them being in the team.....

Re: 3m Striker bid
Strange how people are complaining about Walters' signing due to his lack of goals but think that Shane Long would be a good signing, they've got very similar Premier League records (personally I wouldn't be keen on either of them).

Re: 3m Striker bid
In truth, a good short term option, same as when rovers brought in dickov at 33 year old. Only thing is, I thought Ashley Barnes did that job for you already fairly well?

Re: 3m Striker bid
Me too! Some very outdated opinions on here. He's 33, has kept himself very fit but his legs have suddenly stopped working according to some. No need for prozone for them, they have an eye for these things after seeing him for 5 minutes on MoTD. Happy to write him off based on his age. International footballer who has played at the top level for a good number of years under different managers but not good enough for us. Unbelievable. He'd be a snip at £3m.cricketfield73 wrote:Just logged in to like claretdom's post

But he, and you could add Whelan, was part of establishing Stoke as a PL club when he was younger and fitter.GDK wrote:We need to emulate Stoke's success in becoming an established premier league team. I really don't get what we are trying to do in the market at the moment.

Dyche really does need to broaden his player search. Another grafter/clogger to implement the dychball style.

£3m for a 33 year old with 1 year left on his deal is outrageous. Especially if we only give him a 1 year deal. Which would only make sense considering we wouldn't give 31 year old Boyd and 33 year old Barton more than 1.

Still looked very useful for Ireland recently against Austria scoring with aplomb after a through ball from a certain Robbie Brady. More of that please! I see him as a Premier League Ronnie Jepson who was 35 when he signed for Stan and did a belting job in ensuring 3rd tier survival.

Re: 3m Striker bid
If Walters is the Calibre of player we are targeting then it shows how poor a state our scouting network really is.
The guy not as good as Vokes or Barnes.
And some on here are happy for the likes of Gray and Defour to depart and be replaced with cloggers. Must be easily pleased.

Walters clearly has enough quality, given that the club he's been playing for has survived for the last seven years.SGr wrote:Apparently genuine quality isn't actually needed to survive in the Premier League...

Re: 3m Striker bid
still more than capable but IF Gray goes we will need a major injection of pace or we will genuinely be 100% one dimensional as an attacking force

Stoke know what they are doing.
Think Leon Cort and GNW.
They know when a player is knackered and we can be taken for a ride.

I think Dyche likes signing his mates for the sake of it, we paid Steven Reid a weekly wage for what? So Dyche could have a chinwag with his old pal?
