The Huddersfield Way
Decent players being signed early ,decent manger signing a new two contract, exactly the sort of thing we should be doing .

Very different in terms of style of play. Boro played long ball, Huddersfield pass it much more on the ground (and imo played better football last season in the Championship than Boro did in the Prem). I think Huddersfield will surprise a few (like they did last season when the bookies had them as going down) and they're improving where they need to improve. I think they'll stay up.

Just because clubs splash cash early it means nothing. Look at Mboro. Our squad is already stronger as it is and we have a manager who has kept us up already. Nothing at all wrong with what we are doing.

The problem Huddesfield have is re-signing their loan players on. This will take up to 20 million of what i would guess will be a budget of 40 million. That is just so they are what they were.

Huddersfield finished the season with a minus goal difference.
A minus goal difference.
They are going to have to outscore teams at this level.
Good luck with that.

They are doing what they think will give them the best chance of survival, remember this is their first crack at it, just because their approach was, and is different to ours doesn't mean it is better or worse than our 1st, 2nd or 3rd attempts.
Only time will tell.

If they had played better football, as you put it, they wouldn't have been so far behind the clubs automatically promoted (12 points).
As for surviving, their defence needs completely replacing as a minus goal difference will spell disaster.
Re: The Huddersfield Way
If you look at the end of their cup game with Man City you can see the potential gulf in class when the big clubs turn it on. It is a big bridge to gap as we have found before.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
I would hardly say Huddersfield are doing a Middlesbrough.
They have signed Mooy for 10m and Depoitre for an undisclosed fee.
We spent 6m on Fletcher when we went up under Coyle. In todays football money that's a more than 10m

Re: The Huddersfield Way
So they paid £10m for this Mooy bloke from City.
He played for them last season so signing him permanently does not improve their team.
Huddersfield`s stats last year were a long way behind ours (or Boro`s and Brighton`s) the season before. Didn`t Huddersfield not end up with negative goal difference ?
Their squad is by far the weakest in the Premier League and they need to spend a lot more than £20m to get it anywhere near even the likes of Brighton and ourselves.
As for this Portuguese player they have signed - how does anybody know he is "decent" ? I doubt whether anybody has heard of him and scoring goals in some of the weaker European leagues is very different to scoring in the Premier League.
Personally I think the biggest thing going for Huddersfield is their manager.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
Signing Mooy is great for them. It might not improve them from last year, but they'd be weaker without him.
Just because every team doesnt do things the way we do it doesn't mean it isn't right. We had these threads about Leicester a few years back. What have they done since? Exactly, clubs have different ways of approaching things.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
So no one mentioning Hoyle persuaded Wagner to sign a longer contract, something our board can't do with Dyche and the reason Dyche is linked with nearly every vacancy in the premier league which in itself creates instability.
Re: The Huddersfield Way
Manager contracts are irrelevant because if Wagner got approached by a bigger club than Huddersfield and he wanted to go they'd be pretty much powerless to stop it.joey13 wrote:So no one mentioning Hoyle persuaded Wagner to sign a longer contract, something our board can't do with Dyche and the reason Dyche is linked with nearly every vacancy in the premier league which in itself creates instability.
A managers contract is totally different from the one a player signs.

If you think Wagner won't be linked with any other jobs for the next year because of his 2 year contract, you might be surprised.joey13 wrote:So no one mentioning Hoyle persuaded Wagner to sign a longer contract, something our board can't do with Dyche and the reason Dyche is linked with nearly every vacancy in the premier league which in itself creates instability.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
I'm still working on the Derby Way.
If there's a Huddersfield Way, it'd be getting outscored over a season then winning a couple of penalty shootouts. To be fair, it worked pretty well. Their main purpose this season is to be everyone's favourite away trip. And if we stay up I'd like them to also, if only for this reason.

Only signed for two years and then only because he didn't get other potential jobs. Our board would happily give Dyche a long term deal but it's not something Dyche wants.joey13 wrote:So no one mentioning Hoyle persuaded Wagner to sign a longer contract, something our board can't do with Dyche and the reason Dyche is linked with nearly every vacancy in the premier league which in itself creates instability.

Does it really matter which country he comes from ? - still the same point...nobody has heard of him and yet people are saying Huddersfield are doing well in the transfer market.joey13 wrote:Try getting your facts right before spouting off , they haven't signed a Portuguese player
This signing was only £3.5m and he played in the Portuguese league last year - he only played 13 times. Prior to that he was in the Belgium league which is an awful league

Re: The Huddersfield Way
Why are you writing him off just because you haven't heard of him? Would you do the same if we signed someone from abroad you hadn't heard of, just because of your poor grasp of football knowledge?
Re: The Huddersfield Way
Poor grasp of football knowledge ? Ha ha - so you knew who this guy was did you ?UpTheBeehole wrote:Why are you writing him off just because you haven't heard of him? Would you do the same if we signed someone from abroad you hadn't heard of, just because of your poor grasp of football knowledge?
Who is writing him off anyway ? I`m saying why are people congratulating Huddersfield on the amount of money they are spending and players they are signing when they no little or nothing about them ?
I am not writing off some player I have never heard of - in the same way I`m not going to say he is a good signing.
And the underlying intimation in these posts and the title of the thread is that Burnley are not doing enough in the transfer market and we should be doing it the "Huddersfield Way".....which I think we did in the past in signing players like Hennings for a couple of million.
Re: The Huddersfield Way
Not sure what's wrong with what they've done so far. They need players and will need to shell out a decent amount to get anyone. Some shrewd looking purchases. All totally understandable but none worry me. They'll get relegated in my opinion but they're having a good go, fair play.

Have Huddersfield got any good players in their defence?
We still got relegated in 2015 despite having Trippier, Mee, Keane & Heaton in our back line and unless you have at least some evidence of quality survival is highly unlikely, regardless of whether you strengthen in other areas or not.

Huddersfield will be complete whipping boys this season. Any team with serious designs to stay up this season must be finishing at least three spots above them.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
Huddersfield will no doubt approach the season different to ours. They will attack more an try and get enough 3 point wins for survival. Sitting back and defending doesn't work most of the time like Boro tried, so lets see.
We stayed up this time as we got on the right side of a lot of 1-0 wins which could of gone any way.
On the Mooy signing- If he has improved for having a very good year in the championship then it will improve the side this year.
But lets hope our signings are better than theirs.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
Don't see the fuss about Mooy, he just played in the Con fed cup and was League one standard at best, the games passed him by.
Re: The Huddersfield Way
Schindler and Lowe are both decent defenders. I think they conceded so many because of the style of football they play. They are very attacking, the full backs are more like wing backs. It worked to a degree in the Championship because they went up. I don't think it will work in the Prem though. If they go for it every game they will get caught on the break and punished

Re: The Huddersfield Way
Our 08/09 and 09/10 seasons are good parallels for Huddersfield I think.
We went up via the playoffs having a goal difference only just over neutral. We didn't have a single player in the team of the year.
We went out and splashed some big money (relative to size of club and income) on Fletcher and Bikey.
We then took our open, attacking game to the Premier League, and if we'd have won our 6 pointers would have stayed up.
Huddersfield are only doing exactly the same.

"If we would have won our 6 pointers we would have stayed up"
mmmm ?
The fact we got beat twice by most of the bottom teams (other than Hull) meant that we were nowhere near good enough. It`s not like we were losing out or drawing to last minute winners or equalisers every week (I only remember Wigan away losing in the last minute)
We did not perform in hardly any game that mattered after Christmas and but for the 2 wins in meaningless games against Spurs and Hull (away) we`d have finished with a points total similar to Sunderland this year.

That's what I just said - if we'd have won our 6 pointers we'd have stayed up.
Instead our board made a brainfart decision in appointing League One Laws, and we surrendered meekly in vital games against Portsmouth, Wolves, Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton....
Turn up in those games and we stay up remarkably easily. Win just 2 and we stay up.

Re: The Huddersfield Way
Not sure what your point is.
My point is that we were nowhere near staying up that season - I agree 100% that the Laws appointment was shocking - but the team was basically the same as under Coyle and the rot of not winning games started under Coyle in November / December time.
We did not stay up because the team we had was poor and the likes of Wigan, Wolves, Blackburn and even Portsmouth has better players than us. It`s easy saying if we would have "turned up" and won a couple of these games we`d have stayed up.....we did turn up for all of them and we got beat because they were better than us.
Wigan great example - everyone thought we should be beating teams like Wigan at the Turf.....they played us off the park and had much more experience and quality than us after a number of seasons in the Premier League.
The proof of how poor we were was seen the season after and how quickly the likes of Jordan, Carlisle, Caldwell, Jensen and many others were playing for teams way down the leagues.
This wasn`t the case for the Dyche teams. Most players leaving went on to big and better things. Only Fletcher really did that under Coyle / Laws.

Take those performances and replicate them against the teams down near us, we'd have slaughtered them.
