Hacksaw Ridge
Wow just watched this film on dvd and it has to be one of the most powerful war films I have watched, it was moving and an indictment to one man's beliefs and courage, what made it so incredible was it was a true story, if you get the chance watch it

Re: Hacksaw Ridge
The film depicts the events on the ridge happening over the course of a few days, perhaps for cinematic effect, but remarkably (IMO) actually happened over the course of around three weeks. It also wasn't Doss's first experience of combat service but it's an incredible story and an incredible film, nonetheless.

Re: Hacksaw Ridge
It was a good film but not a top WWII film.
The first sections in the US are so saccharine sweet (I assume to provide a juxtaposition to the hells of war) they look like the most cheesy Hallmark films.
The war parts were very good but I could never shake off the feeling Gibson was reveling too much in making the action; every 5th soldier is blown off their feet in slow motion, I'm sure some people were blown off their feet in WWII but it felt very forced.
It does not stand up to 'Saving Private Ryan's' D-Day which depicts the the horrors without ever slipping into glorification and bombast.
A good watch though and a solid WWII film despite it's flaws, how Gibson ever got let back into Hollywood is beyond me...

I enjoyed Fury too. Or is it wrong to admit that as it stars Pitt?

Fury is very good, nothing wrong with admitting you like it.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote:I enjoyed Fury too. Or is it wrong to admit that as it stars Pitt?

Interesting. Did he perform similar feats before Hacksaw Ridge?
