I can honestly say I have had the best three years of my life here, on and off the pitch!

“I have had a lot of special moments while playing for you, notably my two goals against Brighton and Middlesbrough in the Championship winning season.

“Of course, we created history as a team last season by staying in the Premier League and by playing regularly it helped my dream come true of playing for England.

“I will never be grateful enough for the work Sean Dyche, Ian Woan, Tony Loughlan and Billy Mercer have done with me on a daily basis to get me to this point in my career.

“The gaffer showed a lot of faith in me three years ago, when it could have been easy for me to stay at United and look for an opportunity there.

“He convinced me to come to Burnley and develop under his guidance and I put that down as one of the best decisions I've ever made, so thanks gaffer!

“I also want to say thanks to all the backroom staff, of which there are too many to name: strength and conditioning coaches, analysts, nutritionist, physios, chef, media team and Bumble!

“As for my team mates, I can honestly say I've never enjoyed playing with a group of people more.

“They have the never-say-die attitude and the talent to go with it. From day one they welcomed me into the group and I have made friends for life with them all and will miss seeing them every day.

“Finally, the fans. You have been amazing with me and the team since day one through low times and the many successful times we have had together.

“That support is what drives the team on and there are many games where we feel you helped push us over the line.

“Even when we were struggling away from home last season you continued to travel to every game and sing your hearts out for us and we thankfully rewarded you with a win at Palace!

“Burnley Football Club will always have a special place in my heart and I wish you all the best for the upcoming season. I can't wait to play at Turf Moor again in March!

Fabulous player for us, good luck to him both with Everton and of course, England.

We have great memories and can console ourselves with the fact that he could
easily have ended up at Deadwood, been transferred out and they got the dosh for him.

As long as we get good replacements, it's a great bit of business.

Keano is a very special player and will go on to captain England one day I'm sure and along the way Burnley has played a big part in that. Like Jay, Tripps and all the other lads Burnley have helped along in their careers, a big thanks to Michael for the time he was here were with us and the very best of luck for the future.

Fantastic player and deserves his move. I can't imagine anyone could be upset by the manner in which he has conducted himself in this matter.

He's done the business for us, no question about that and he leaves behind a fantastic legacy in that he has proven you can come to Burnley and progress to be an England international, that's the clear message to any young player contemplating moving to us.

Responsible for a massive wobbler against Boro that will live long in the Turf memory bank. Saw stars after that one.

I am gutted, not angry, just gutted. Keane has a brilliant future ahead of him and Everton have a bargain. IMO he is already better than Stones. Also upset to lose Boyd. Rarely missed a game and always gave us 100%. I wish both players all the best. A sad day to be a Claret. Lets hope we can invest wisely and maintain our Premier League status.

Anyway, it's a big thank you from me Keano, you blossomed into a wonderful player with us and despite making it clear you wouldn't be renewing your contract you still performed to the highest level week in, week out like the consummate professional that you are.

It's not right seeing Keane and Boyd in other teams kits. Both will be massively missed. Big rebuilding job on now for Dyche. I hope the amount of players leaving won't have an effect on the close knittedness of the group and the attitude we have. Lost Boyd, Barton, Keane and looking at maybe losing Andre, Arfield and Defour - that's a massive chunk of the team

Gutted today really with these two going. Absolute best of luck to both of them though, they've been great servants to the club and given us some fantastic memories.

I'm not sure if all departing players at all clubs write so much or so eloquently, but you have to say, having "got to know him" in a way through his time with us it's clearly sincere and clearly comes from the heart. We all knew he was off and none of us begrudge him that big move, especially after I think he could have jumped earlier, but agreed to stay put and see the season out if we agreed not to then block his path. Not all transfers are so amicable, but this appears to have been conducted like gentlemen which leaves a nice taste for a change.

Keane deserves his chance to play higher up in the league
and in Europe.
Just a huge pity it couldn't have been with us.
But for that to happen we'd have probably had to finish above Everton
(with a young but exciting team) and acquired a wealthy benefactor

Still we've had 3 good years and made 20m or so profit.

Look forward to seeing how he develops.

It's a sad day for us no doubt.
Thanks Michael, you have been a pleasure to watch and if you had to go anywhere, then Everton is a good choice.
I just hope other emerging stars will take a note of Wilf mcguinness's comments about how superb the Burnley environment is for budding defenders !

We've felt gutted before but bounced back much higher and I'm sure we'll do it again.

If anything I'd like to say this, we knew he was too good for us, we knew he would eventually move on. What I didn't realise was what a stand up professional he really is. Lovely words, not seen anything in the media suggesting he's pushed the move through although I'm sure he could, and not signing the new Deal hasn't made anything messy. A deal that allows a good player a fantastic opportunity, and also one that has seen us fairly compensated.

Thanks for everything Keano, his parting words may just help with our player recruitment.

Juan Tanamera, I assume that he signed the statement, so, technically, they are his words. But I would bet my mortgage against the fact that he actually did the drafting of the statement. He doesn't have a press secretary, like Donald Trump has, but there are people who perform that function.

Great player, I'm sad, yet proud and pleased at the same time.
As an aside, loved the Sky stats earlier on Premiership defenders blocks, headers and tackles etc. Ben Mee featured prominently.
We've still got Ben Mee, who's no mug, and Turks can hopefully develop further. Agree we need another CB though.

Great tribute to SD and the coaching staff in getting Keano to this level-something that huge back room team could not do at Old Trafford.
Very sad night-remember seeing him come on to make his debut to replace Trippier at Leicester. I remember SD resting him after a run of about 12 games, then in his first game alongside Mee saw him open the Championship season and he never looked back. He has won all the pundits over and I think there is more to come. Funny how we have played a major part in developing him and Gary Cahill. Right now they look our best two centre backs. I wish him the very best of careers-he deserves it
