Re: So we blew the Robertson deal .
Stalling is the tactic you use when you have multiple irons in the fire - shows that we were well in with 1st and 2nd choices and got the first choice - even though earlier in the year everyone in football assumed West Brom had it sewn up. Telling that West Brom don't seem to be in for Robertson.
Also Robertson would expect to be a starter as would Ward, while January provided a poaching opportunity (we got Brady instead which is better business I feel) we now have Taylor who is prepared to compete with Ward and wait for his opportunity, not unlike Keane and possibly with the same level of potential. We know if he kicks on we have another valuable potential England International.
Excellent work from the recruitment team is what I deduce

The same newspaper that reported Assombalonga signing for Boro a few days ago.

Wipe those tears away Joey, we've already got two very good left backs.
Re: So we blew the Robertson deal .
Haven't we been after Taylor since last year? I'd say we were keen on him to keep trying.

Re: So we blew the Robertson deal .
The board are damned if they do, damned if they don't, i like Robertson as a player, but we are well equipped in this area, Ward will be first choice at the start of the season, with Taylor as very good back-up, if Taylor gets his chance for any reason, it is up to him to cement his place, it is called competition for places.

For a start, the recruitment team would not be responsible for putting the financial package together. Secondly, that information on stalling over how we pay it is simply not true.joey13 wrote:Apparently we stalled on how the fee was to be paid .

Liverpool needed a player for now, they have the cash to get someone else for later. We were happy with the left back we already had and were prepared to buy someone who would need time to develop further as they battled to try and take over the number 1 spot from Steven Ward.Wilsdenclaret wrote:yeah we blew it so badly we ended up with a better player than Liverpool did...........disgrace

Don't think there's much between Taylor and Robertson tbh but Taylor represents much better business sense. I mean how much donscottish players actually sell for these days? A couple of quid and a bottle of irn bru?

Apparently Hull stalled on the deal hoping to get a better deal from Liverpool,
so we obviously went and got Taylor for less, once again the recruitment team do a fine job.
Re: So we blew the Robertson deal .
I haven't a clue of the ins and outs, but even if we did stall on the deal, because of the structure of the payments, that could well be a good thing.
Why be held to ransom if we don't need to be and considering we were linked with Taylor prior to Robinson (last summer for Taylor, January for Robertson) perhaps Taylor was the first choice.
I'm all for criticism if I think it's fair but when it's conjecture, it just seems negative.

Re: So we blew the Robertson deal .
I must say it always tickles me that people are so ready to get a snippet of "news" build it up into the perfect solution, put a player they barely know into a world beater. In the minds eye our hero sees us lifting the title. Then cruelly to have it all stolen when they discover another club; with intelligent people working for them have stolen them away from our board who were still looking in the dictionary at what the big words mean. At which point all our heroes dreams come crashing down around him. We're all doomed. Then when the Earth does not stop spinning, realisation dawns in a week or two that we were never determined HE was our main man after all.

Re: So we blew the Robertson deal .
I would suggest that had we progressed with Robertson the likes of Liverpool, if they wanted him, would have blown us away.
We have enough problems getting the better of Boro etc.
I am quite happy with Charlie Taylor. Only seen him live once, played 2 beautiful crosses for Wood's head and he put them both wide.
My thoughts then, if we get to the PL that player would be ideal.

Looking at the op, if you didn't expect people to question you, then the internet isn't the place for you.joey13 wrote: I was just saying , I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition
If you're complaining people have questioned you then again the internet isn't for you.
You've got your dig in at the club, again I think, and then you wonder why people question you or your sanity.

Then you could flip that again (it's like pancake day) and say that if you don't like people defending their football club when it's as good as it's been in 40 odd years, then this message board isn't for you.
