I remember being delighted, and shocked, when we signed Frank Casper.
Also delighted with Colin Waldron coming from Chelsea to Burnley.

Re: Who was your favourite ever signing?
Been a few.
Most mentioned above. Frank, Newton, (both pure class) Morley, Grezza...
Can't NOT mention Peter Noblel!
Wright was epic at the time. One of Stan's master strokes and it worked so well, it gave us a platform to get where we are today.
But am surprised Micky Duff hasn't been mentioned much.
Now there's a guy who has provided much, much more than what we spent on him.

Re: Who was your favourite ever signing?
I was at that game and by then was about 20 years old. That first goal was fantastic and absolutely summed up what he brought to us. He (legally) knocked several flaky defenders out of the way and blasted the ball home! As a team we instantly turned a corner and Skippy became one of my all time favourites.billyhamilton82 wrote:Steve Kindon
It was the first signing Burnley had made whilst I supported them and there was a real excitement around the town and my school.
To further build my expectation levels older siblings and parents/grandparents reminisced about Kindon's previous exploits in a Clarets shirt in his first stint and the wait to see him play was unbearable.
I came to realise later on in my Claret supporting career that instances like this are usually a massive let down as a Clarets fan......BUT this time I was lucky to see something that still gives me goosebumps thinking about it to this day.
The day arrived against Notts County with us rooted to the bottom of the table and cut adrift. The weather was awful and the pitch even worse.
In a dull game that was belying all the stories and fables I had been told before Brian Hall plays a through ball that actually looks like a clearance landing on the half way line effectively giving Notts County the ball back until Kindon came from nowhere and lived up to his nickname "Skippy" as he slipped past two challenges on the half way line before playing the ball past an onrushing defender using his unbelievable speed in horrible conditions as the ball held up on on a quagmire of a pitch before despatchiing a wonderful shot into the corner of the net at the CFS end.
That was it I had caught the bug at 8 years old as the excitement / expectation of the crowd especially on the Longside when Kindon ran onto the ball is difficult to explain as there was a feeling that something wonderful was going to happen and seeing him at full flight gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
The only way I can explain to anyone not lucky enough to see Kindon in full flight is watch the other runners in a 100 metres race against Usain Bolt. That's what the defenders used to look like fading into the distance as his explosive power off the mark was unbelievable.
Maybe its my childhood memory that has put him on a pedastal but I honestly can't remember anyone since that has had the pace and pure explosive power of Kindon.
I can still "see" that goal now and play it over and over in my head and it will be with me until my dying day. It then it hit me like a tonne of bricks what it meant to be a Claret. That was it encapsulated in that wonderful goal that is why I am here soaked to the skin with my family.
Unfortunately one of my "family of Clarets" is no longer with us and that moment probably wouldn't have meant as much to him or anyone else with me that day but for me it was a thunderbolt, a feeling of belonging and unity and I will forever remember him being there at that moment and enjoying it together and for that reason I will never ever forget it x
Thanks Skippy

We never bought players, then to suddenly read that we'd spent something like £40,000 on an unknown player from Rotherham....quite amazing at the time.

Duff was indeed an astute signing. In fact Cotterill signed a few real good ones , McGreal, Cahill, Sinclair for starters.tim_noone wrote:It was indeed...but duff must have been the biggest value for money player we've had in a long time I would guess.but the Casper signing lives in my memory all these years later!

Re: Who was your favourite ever signing?
David eyres from Blackpool. Kurt nogan from Brighton.
Both players I'd liked at their previous clubs and thought they might help get us out of the doldrums.
Quite like the Keith newton call above as he was probably the first signing I can really remember. Early on I just seem to remember players being sold.

Stockport mugged us and we then mugged pne. Tony Hancock didn't score for us or pne. Was later jailed for impersonating a footballer.

Re: Who was your favourite ever signing?
I had a similar feeling walking away from a game as a child when I saw the LET board outside the newsagents (by Cockers) saying we had signed John Pender. If it be your will wrote:I remember being really excited about that signing, too. I remember a few games later Stockport fans singing 'what a waste of money' and the Burnley fans joining in. Is it true that 12 months before we signed him he was driving buses, and 12 months after we signed him he was back on the buses again?
At the actual time of signing, I think the one I was most thrilled with was Ron Futcher. I remember seeing it on the LET board outside a newsagent. It appears I was easily impressed back then. (Still, he must have been Burnley's most reliable penalty taker ever, until Alexander came along.)
Never heard of him but was impressed and excited!

Re: Who was your favourite ever signing?
Has to be Martin Dobson. Think his first game was at Ewood Park in a pre season friendly Texaco Cup or something match. It was a great moment. Unfortunately we ended up getting relegated that season which was obviously a major disappointment.Think we also signed Billy Hamilton around the same time.

BOT- Just to clarify.
1.I never need a reason to watch the clarets. Started when we were in div4 and i'd carry on watching if we were in the northwest counties.
2. I was talking complete gibberish in that post last night. I'm blaming the blonde witch consumption.
Re: Who was your favourite ever signing?
For pure surprise and excitement factor it has be Ian Wright Wright Wright for me.
I was on the way home from work from Manchester going through Rawtenstall when Radio Lancs announced it. I remember pulling over in the car to listen to it.
This was pre Twitter, Gossip columns and transfer threads on a messageboard. These days I reckon a rumour to sign Wright would mean 5,000 posts !
I think 99% of fans were excited about Gazza signing. It did not work out like the Ian Wright signing but I bet nearly all fans thought it was a great signing at the time.
I loved it when we signed Ted McMinn and Andy Payton.

I also distinctly remember a LET advert board outside a newsagent that said "Gazza coming to Turf". I bought the paper and subsequently found out that Gazza was coming to play a reserve game for boro against us. I was furious. That memory tempered my response when we actually did sign him.

That was before my time, Tim. I agree with the sentiment, though. If Burnley had signed Malcom Macdonald I wouldn't have liked it.

Interesting that a lot of the comments come about the resigning of previous players, but then so many negative ones when the names of Ings, Austin and Jay Rod pop up in more recent times.
