What movies can't you watch because they upset you?

Post by NRC » Mon Jul 17, 2017 5:49 pm

Ending up watching a movie last night with Mrs NRC we picked from the "romantic Comedy" section of Netflix - Seeking a friend for the End of the World. It was anything but a comedy and off they went into oblivion, but in love.

It got me thinking about movies that upset me, watched once, and won't watch again.......

Mine are
- The Road
- Plague dogs

You got any?

Schindler's List is a tough watch.

I prefer the sequel though where he ends up an alcoholic - Schindlers Pis-sed.

I thank you !

I quite liked that friend for the end of the world.

There hasn't been a film that upset me enough I won't watch it again, and I watch a lot of films.

Manchester By The Sea - I found this to be a really strong/powerful film emotionally, but I'm going to watch it again because I thought it was that good.

I cant bare to watch any of those Jim White disaster movies they show every Jan and Aug. The build up and trailers always look so good but it just seems to under deliver every time

Can't bring myself to watch Schindler's List.

Saving Private Ryan is my favourite film but I always cry like a baby at the end!!

Always turned Ring of Bright water off before the ending when I was young.Kes always upset me at the end as well. And on a lighter note always wished there was an alternative ending to the Italian Job where they actually got away with it instead of hanging over that bloody edge

For some reason I put 'gay and lesbian' into the search facility on Netflix, now every time my wife searches for Game of Thrones, Gay and Lesbian films is the first prompt that comes up.

Does anybody know how to clear it?

Jean de Florette always upset me. Mans inhumanity to man and all that but the ending of part 2, Manon des Sources, makes it all worthwhile. Stunning twist.

The final scene with Yves Montand is probably one of the greatest pieces of acting, how he generates so much emotion and despair without saying a word is brilliant.

Recommend avoiding Marley and Me if anyone in the room has ever had a pet dog. Blatant exploitation of the audience's emotions it has to be said. Dire film really as is anything with Owen Wilson in it pretty much imo.
The Champ is a great shout. Gallipoli also has a lump in the throat ending.

There's No Business Like Show Business.

I love most Marilyn Monroe films but I just can't watch this. It has three of the most annoying stars in the history of American Cinema. Ethel Merman, Donald O'Connor and, most cringeworthy of all, Johnny Ray.

Not a film but i recently watched 13 Reasons Why and it had plenty of "what? I'm not crying. Shut up! You're crying!" moments, particularly in the last few episodes.

Also The Book Thief. because i read the book and, well, I don't want to relive Rudy's death again.

The Story of Anne Frank - desolate ending when the families are discovered by the Nazis. A visit to Prinsengracht to see the Annexe is a very moving experience.

I've never seen it but Marley and Me is one I don't think I can watch. As far as I know, it's about the life of a dog but I just know that the dog dying will break my heart. So I'm best steering clear of that one tbh!

Even though I don't have a dog myself I couldn't watch Marley and Me again too! I watched it on a plane and got to "the" bit and had to pretend to be too tired to watch the rest and turned it off :) The next one for me was another dog one; Hachi: A Dogs Tale. Went to the cinema to watch with my wife and kids thinking it would be a lovely family film and we were all a complete mess. Not watching that bugga again either.

The Original Incredible Journey is a great film. The wait for Bodgers return is really emotional.

I've never been able to watch My Dog Skip as I had a Jack Russell for 18 years called Skip who looked exactly like the dog in the film

Green Mile as well for me

`What Dreams May Come` - visually stunning but heartbreaking stuff with Robin Williams (1998)
`A Place in the Sun` - REAL drama and a slide into oblivion with Elizabeth Taylor & Montgomery Clift (his life in itself was a tragedy) (1951)

I went to Amsterdam with my future wife back in 2001. We visited the Ann Frank museum and it is as you say, very moving. More so when you realise as you get to the top of the house, step behind the cupboard and through the small doorway into the annexe, this is the route taken by German soldiers back in the 1940s that led to the imprisonment and execution of her and the rest of the family.

There were other parts of the trip that I struggle to remember though.....

And someone beat me to it, but football highlights of 1995 is a shocker. Burnley were relegated, them down t'road bought the Premier League and to cap it off, I married my first wife. Annus horribilus of the highest order.
